In this study, an experimental investigation was conducted to assess the influence of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) and silica fume (SF) on the fresh and hardened properties of grout specimens and preplaced aggregate concrete (PAC). Grout proportions were optimized statistically using a factorial design and were applied to 10 mm and 20 mm coarse aggregates to produce PAC. The results demonstrate that GGBS has a more significant effect on the compressive strength of grout compared to SF, with a small increase or decrease in the GGBS content having a greater influence on the compressive strength of grout than SF. The water to binder ratio had the most significant effect on the compressive strength of PAC, followed by the coarse aggregate size and sand to binder ratio. An empirical relationship to predict the compressive strength of PAC was proposed through an experimentally derived factorial design along with a statistical analysis of collectively obtained data and a deep literature review. The results predicted by the empirical relationship were in good agreement with those of PAC produced for verification.

Water repellent surfaces may enhance the condensation by efficiently removing the condensed droplets. However, such surfaces may lose their original performance as they are exposed to external mechanical stresses. In this work, we fabricated spray-coated mechanically robust superhydrophobic surfaces using treated titanium dioxide (Type 1) or silica particles (Type 2). Then we compared the mechanical robustness of such surfaces with the silane-coated superhydrophobic surface and PEEK coated surface using a controlled-sand blasting method. The results show that the spray-coated samples can maintain the same level of the contact angle hysteresis than silane-coated superhydorphobic surface after sand blasting at 2 bar. The spray-coating method was applied to the tube type condenser and the condensation behaviors were observed within the environmental chamber with controlled pressure, humidity and non-condensable gas. Previously-reported droplet jumping was observed in the early stage of the condensation event, but soon the droplet jumping stopped and only dropwise condensation was observed since the condensed droplets were pinned on the cracks at spray-coated surfaces. The static contact angle decreases from $158.0^{\circ}$ to $133.2^{\circ}$, and hysteresis increases from $3.0^{\circ}$ to $23.5^{\circ}$ when active condensation occurs on such surfaces. This work suggests the benefits and limitation of spray-coated superhydrophobic condensers and help develop advanced condensers for practical use.

The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum mix proportion of latex modified mortar for agricultural underwater concrete structures repair. The experimental variables included a latex and antiwashout admixture amount, binder-sand ratio, water-binder ratio. This study were evaluated a repair performance and environment effect of latex modified repair mortar for agricultural underwater concrete structures. The pH test was conducted to evaluated the environmental effect and the flow test was peformed to evaluated the workability. Also, compressive, flexural and bond tests were conducted. Test results show that the optimum mix proportion of latex modified repair mortar for agricultural underwater concrete structures, was achieved by 1:1.5 binder-sand ratio, 5% latex ratio (weight of binder), 1.3% antiwashout admixture ratio (weight of binder), 0.33 water-binder ratio and 10% silica lune replacement ratio (weight of cement). The environmental effect and repair performance of optimum mix proportion satisfied all target performance.
This study aimed to investigate the suitability of some concrete components for producing "high-performance heavy density concrete" using different types of aggregates that could enhances the shielding efficiency against ${\gamma}$-rays. 15 mixes were prepared using barite, magnetite, goethite and serpentine aggregates along with 10% silica fume, 20% fly ash and 30% blast furnace slag to total OPC content for each mix. The mixes were subjected to compressive strength at 7, 28 and 90 days. In some mixes, compressive strengths were also tested up to 90 days upon replacing sand with the fine portions of magnetite, barite and goethite. The mixes containing magnetite along with 10% SF reaches the highest compressive strength exceeding over M60 requirement by 14% after 28 days. Whereas, the compressive strength of concrete containing barite was very close to M60 and exceeds upon continuing for 90 days. Also, the compressive strength of high-performance concrete incorporating magnetite fine aggregate was significantly higher than that containing sand by 23%. On the other hand, concrete made with magnetite fine aggregate had higher physico-mechanical properties than that containing barite and goethite. High-performance concrete incorporating magnetite fine aggregate enhances the shielding efficiency against ${\gamma}$-rays.

To obtain the physical properties of grout materials, that is the thermal conductivity and viscosity, which are used for backfilling ground heat exchangers, nine bentonite grouts and cement grouts being adapted in the United State have been considered in this study. The bentonite grouts show that the thermal conductivity and viscosity increase with the content of bentonite or filler (silica sand). The saturated cement grouts appear to possess much higher thermal conductivity than the saturated bentonite grouts, and the reduction of thermal conductivity in the cement grouts after drying specimens is less than the case of the bentonite grouts. To investigate the performance of cement grouts, fifteen samples were prepared by varying the water/cement ratio and the amount of sand and bentonite added into the cement mortar. Maintaining the moisture content of grouts is a crucial factor in enhancing the efficiency of ground heat exchangers.
With people's awareness of environment-friendly buildings recently increasing, there is a need to develop environment-friendly construction materials to reduce indoorair pollution levels. Thus, efforts to develop loess finishing materials that can replace the finishing materials currently being used (e.g., gypsum boards and chemical products) are underway. An analysis of the characteristics of domestic loess products, however, revealed that the cracks on loess products can be lessened and their strength can be improved by adding chemical ingredients to them. Thus, this research sought to use 100% natural materials and to develop loess finishing materials. In the experiments that were conducted in this study, appropriate mixture ratios of loess and sand/silica sand were found, and cracks and contraction ratio changes in samples were analyzed by differentiating the ratios of natural ingredients, such as lime, fine jute threads, gypsum, and jute cuttings. Loess'particle size distribution was found to have a high correlation with loess decoration, and it was discovered that the mixture of lime and fine chute threads could improve the contraction ratio. Through this study, which made use of natural ingredients, environment-friendly construction materials that can exercise the original function of loess were developed.
The drained and undrained behavior of pure silt was investigated experimentally. Special attention was given to the stress-strain behavior of silt prior to failure and behavior at failure under monotonic and cyclic loading. A pure silica flour was chosen to form samples with two different densities of D,=80%, eo=0.68 and D,=35%, eo=0.9. The isotropically consolidated samples were tested in the triaxial testing device under monotonic undrained, drained compression and extension conditions. Also samples were tested under cyclic undrained condition. Based on the experimental results. it was qualitively identified that the overall behavior of silt is similar to that of sand. When compared with clay, silt shows a significantly different behavior due to its dilatant nature under both the monotonic and cyclic shear loadings.

In order to review the utility of Lade's single hardening constitutive model, a series of isotropic compression-expansion tests and consolidated drained triaxial tests including as CTC, TC, RTC, and OSP were performed by Baekma river sand with various of stress path. Parameters required in model were determined using these tests. The accuracy of analysis was reviewed by back analysis of test results used to determine the 11 parameters of soil property through the test of each stress path. Also. for verifying the accuracy of prediction for the stress-strain behavior using failure criterion related 9 parameters with correlational equation and constant and yield criterion related parameters h, ${\alpha}$ and ${\eta}_1$, when stress path is different with each other, it has been obtained in the review result of stress path dependent characteristics of the constitutional model through the analyzing results of CTC, TC, RTC, OSP, and fine silica sand tests.

For the purpose of developing a PE fiber-reinforced highly ductile cementitious composite having high tensile strain capacity more than 2% under the condition of containing aggregates with large particle size, this study investigated the tensile behavior of composites according to the particle size and distribution of aggregates in the composite. Compared with the mixture containing silica sand of which particle size is less than 0.6 mm, mixtures containing river sand and/or gravel with the maximum particle size of 2.36 mm, 4.75 mm, 5.6 mm, 6.7 mm were considered in the experimental design. The particle size distributions of aggregates were adjusted for the optimized distribution curves obtained from modified A&A model by blending different sizes of aggregates. All the mixtures presented clear strain-hardening behavior in the direct tensile tests. The mixtures with the blended aggregates to meet the optimum curves of aggregate size distributions showed higher tensile strain capacity than the mixture with silica sand. It was also found that the tensile strain capacity was improved as the maximum size of aggregate increased which resulted in wider particle size distribution. The mixtures with the maximum size of 5.6 mm and 6.7 mm presented very high tensile strain capacities of 4.83% and 5.89%, respectively. This study demonstrated that it was possible to use coarse aggregates in manufacturing highly ductile fiber-reinforced cementitous composite by adjusting the particle size distribution.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the effects of different surface pretreatment techniques on the surface roughness and shear bond strength of a new self-adhering flowable composite resin for use with lithium disilicate-reinforced CAD/CAM ceramic material. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A total of one hundred thirty lithium disilicate CAD/CAM ceramic plates with dimensions of $6mm{\times}4mm$ and 3 mm thick were prepared. Specimens were then assigned into five groups (n=26) as follows: untreated control, coating with $30{\mu}m$ silica oxide particles ($Cojet^{TM}$ Sand), 9.6% hydrofluoric acid etching, Er:YAG laser irradiation, and grinding with a high-speed fine diamond bur. A self-adhering flowable composite resin (Vertise Flow) was applied onto the pre-treated ceramic plates using the Ultradent shear bond Teflon mold system. Surface roughness was measured by atomic force microscopy. Shear bond strength test were performed using a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. Surface roughness data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and the Tukey HSD tests. Shear bond strength test values were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests at ${\alpha}=.05$. RESULTS. Hydrofluoric acid etching and grinding with high-speed fine diamond bur produced significantly higher surface roughness than the other pretreatment groups (P<.05). Hydrofluoric acid etching and silica coating yielded the highest shear bond strength values (P<.001). CONCLUSION. Self-adhering flowable composite resin used as repair composite resin exhibited very low bond strength irrespective of the surface pretreatments used.
