Restarting Trains Under Moving Block Signaling - An Expert System Approach

  • A high peak power demand at substations will result under Moving Block Signalling (MBS) when a dense queue of trains begins to start from a complete stop at the same time in an electrified railway system. This may cause the power supply interruption and in turn affect the train service substantially. In a recent study, measures of Starting Time Delay (STD) and Acceleration Rate Limit (ARL) are the possible approaches to reduce the peak power demand on the supply system under MBS.   • A lights-out detector, which helps the person in charge of maintenance make a quick judgment in the event of a failure of LED-type traffic lights, was explored/developed and installed/ tested, at Seoul Metro, after they developed a patented pilot product in 2005; and, a product improvement test was conducted to ensure reasonable maintenance of signaling facilities. Having better compatibility with existing circuit in use and displaying stable load current, the device makes the maintenance of lights-out detection and alert easier.

  • Peer-to-Peer system has emerged as a popular model aiming at further utilizing Internet information and resources, complementing the available client-server services. However, the mechanism of peers randomly choosing logical neighbors without any knowledge about underlying physical location aware topology can cause serious performance degradation. In this paper, we consider the network distance between peers so that it helps peers select neighbors located at the nearest when they exchange queries for sharing of resources. To reduce the unnecessary signaling traffic and delay of query exchange, we propose a location aware topology based Hybrid P2P system.   • 최근 무선 이동통신 네트워크 분야의 큰 변화 중에 하나는 무선 이동통신 네트워크와 IP기반의 인터넷 네트워크 기술의 결합이라고 할 수 있다. 그러나 문선 이동통신 네트워크 환경에서는 제한된 네트워크 대역폭과 모바일 호스트(Mobile Host)의 잦은 이동성에 기인한 핸드오프(Hand-Off)로 인하여 다양한 종류의 트래픽(Traffic)에 대한 QoS(Quality of Service)를 보장하기가 용이하지 않다. 3G 네트워크 환경에서는 기존의 서킷 기반이 아닌 패킷 기반의 네트워크 구조로 진화하고 있으며 이동통신 네트워크내에서의 다양한 멀티미디어 트래픽 요구와 함께 이런 멀티미디어 지원을 위한 3G 네트워크안의 QoS 보장이 이루어져야 한다. 본 논문에서는 3세대 이동 통신인 UMTS 네트워크를 기반으로 다양한 멀티미디어 데이터를 위하여 Core네트워크에서의 자원예약을 위하여 내부의 QoS 메커니즘을 관리하여 개선된 RSVP 프로토콜을 제안한다. 또한 그로 인해 발생하는 Signaling 오버헤드를 줄이기 위한 Unified-msg object와 MH(Mobile Host)의 Handoff 지원을 제안한다.

  • An efficient mobility management for mobile stations plays an important role in mobile communication network. This paper studios a zone-based registration (ZBR) that is implemented in most of mobile communication systems. We introduce the mobility management scheme that combines a zone-based registration and a selective paging (SP) and analyze its performance. We set up an analytical model based on 2-dimensional random walk mobility model and evaluate the performance of the proposed mobility management scheme using the model to determine the optimal size of location area which will result in the minimum signaling traffic on radio channels. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed mobility management scheme under various circumstances.

We introduce an analytical model based on 2-dimensional random walk mobility model and evaluate the performance of the proposed mobility management scheme using the model to determine the optimal size of location area that results in the minimum signaling traffic on radio channels. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed mobility management scheme under various circumstances. These results can be used effectively in design and evaluation of registration methods considering the system circumstances.

  • BICC protocol is a relay protocol adaptable to ATM and IP based core networks compared to ISUP protocol to TDM networks. Using BICC protocol, multi-rate bearer traffic such as voice and video can flow in the relay core networks. BICC protocol is standardized as WCDMA circuit switching networks in 3GPP Release 4. Thus KTF is now operating core networks using BICC protocol. In this paper, we describe the background and characteristics of BICC protocol. We also provide the status of KTF WCDMA core networks using BICC. To show the efficiency of BICC protocol an analytical simulation is given in which the results can be expected by intuitive observation.

  • An efficient mobility management for mobile stations plays an important role in mobile communication network. Two basic operations of mobility management are location registration and paging. A zone-based registration (ZBR) is implemented in most of mobile communication systems and we consider the mobility management scheme that combines a zone-based registration and a selective paging (SP). We propose new analytical model that can reflect on the characteristics of the ZBR based on 2-dimensional random walk mobility model and more efficient paging schemes considering the proposed model. We evaluate the performance of the mobility management scheme with our mobility model to determine the optimal size of location area that will result in the minimum signaling traffic on radio channels. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate that our mobility model is useful to evaluate the ZBR more exactly.

  • LTE/SAE has presented the handover key management to revoke the compromised keys and to isolate corrupted network devices. In this paper, we identify that the handover key management is vulnerable to so-called de-synchronization attacks, which is jeopardizing the forward secrecy of handover key management. We place an emphasis on periodic root key update to minimize the effect of the de-synchronization attacks. An optimal value for the root key update interval is suggested in order to minimize signaling load and ensure security of user traffic.

  • Nowadays, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been widely adopted in structural health monitoring (SHM) systems for social overhead capital (SOC) public infrastructures. Structural health information, environmental disturbances and sudden changes of weather conditions, damage detections, and external load quantizing are among the capabilities required of SHM systems. These information requires an efficient transmission with which an efficient mobility management support for wireless networks can provide. This paper deals with the analysis of mobility management schemes in order to address the real-time requirement of data traffic delivery for critical SHM information. The host-based and network-based mobility management protocols have been identified and the advantages of network mobility (NEMO) enabled Proxy Mobile Internet Protocol version 6 (PMIPv6) have been leveraged in order to address the SHM information transmission needs. The scheme allows an efficient information transmission as it improves the handover performance due to shortened handover latency as well as reduced signaling overhead.
