Low Power SAR ADC with Series Capacitor DAC (직렬 커패시터 D/A 변환기를 갖는 저전력 축차 비교형 A/D 변환기)

  • The charge redistribution digital-to-analog converter(CR-DAC) is often used for successive approximation register analog-to-digital converter(SAR ADC) that requiring low power consumption and small circuit area. However, CR-DAC is required 2 to the power of N unit capacitors to generate reference voltage for successive approximation of the N-bit SAR ADC, and many unit capacitors occupy large circuit area and consume more power. In order to improve this problem, this paper proposes SAR ADC using series capacitor DAC. The series capacitor DAC is required 2(1+N) unit capacitors to generate reference voltage for successive approximation and charges only two capacitors of the reference generation block. Because of these structural characteristics, the SAR ADC using series capacitor DAC can reduce the power consumption and circuit area. Proposed SAR ADC was designed in CMOS 180nm process, and at 1.8V supply voltage and 500kS/s sampling rate, proposed 6-bit SAR ADC have signal-to-noise and distortion ratio(SNDR) of 36.49dB, effective number of bits(ENOB) of 5.77-bit, power consumption of 294uW.

  • In general, CT and Shunt have been traditionally used as a sensor for detecting the partial discharges in order to diagnose the present insulation state of the electric power apparatus. The former is very convenient for the practical application since it is not only non-contact method but its frequency bandwidth and resonance frequency could be designed for its specific application. However, it has been proved to have poor linearity and low sensitivity. For the latter, even though it is an ideal sensor, noise from the power source and the ground could flow into the system. Furthermore, the surge current could be easily come into the measuring systems giving rise to a severe breakdown. In this respect, a hybrid sensor has been designed and fabricated in order to overcome the shortcoming of these two types of sensors. For this purpose, the experimental comparison with commercialized products has been also carried out. In this concept of the hybrid sensor, two different impedances could provide the passage of the signals. In this way, the discrimination of the noise could be accomplished very effectively with high ratio of signal over noise(S/N) under the little influence from the external noises and the breakdown.

  • To detect partial discharge of 154kV joint box, we have made experiment by using the HFCT sensor. Generally the signals which are detected in partial discharge test of underground power transmission cable are accompanied with both noises of high voltage and noises of surrounding power cable. The most noise in near to end part of joint box is corona, beside other noises flowed from surrounding area. Partial discharge test is difficulty due to these noises. First, we test reliability on both injection of calibration signal in NJB and removal of low frequency. After that, we had analyzed frequencies by measuring signals in IJB with 300[m] distance from NJB. Also we had measured S/N ratio by using the indirected injection method of calibration signal in IJB. In this experiment, two measurement methods were difference of detection acquisition, but these had the equal frequency properties.

  • In this paper, we introduce modified difference type symbol timing detection method of simple structure and show the relations between S/N ratio and timing detection performance which less influenced by multipath channel delay profile and added noise level and it show very exact GI detection performance characteristics. In the computer simulations, 4 symbol time duration of short and long training of IEEE802.11a standard OFDM frame are used for symbol synchronization timing detection. The computer simulation results show the very exact symbol timing detection performance characteristic within 1 sample error of OFDM signal regardless channel delay profile from minimn phase channels of phase rotation ${\pi}/2$ to non-minimum phase channels of phase rotation ${\pi}/2$ of received OFDM signal and added noise level in channel.

  • 뇌전위 측정에 의해 흥분 뉴런군의 위치를 추정하는 source localization problem은 Evoked Potential 해석법에 있어서 매우 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 이번 논문에서는 EEG실험에서의 전극 배치가 S/N(signal to noise ratio)과 추정 오차 사이에 어떤 영향을 미치는 가를 Monte Carlo 시뮬레이션으로 조사하였다. 머리 모델은 3중 구각 모델을 사용하였고 이론 이용하여 forward problem을 계산하였다. 쌍극자 파라미터를 minimization 하는 문제는 simplex method를 이용하여 계산하였다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 결과, 특이한 점은 전극의 밀도와 입체각에 의해 쌍자 파라미터 오차가 변화했다는 사실이다. 이것은 곧바로 전극 배치와 연관이 된다. 실제 EEG 실험에서 전극 배치를 어떻게 했는가에 따라 그에 따른 오차가 변화한다. 이러한 오차의 원인을 제거하기 위해서 새로운 전극 배치를 모델링하여 기존의 전극 배치와 비교해 보았다. 그 결과 전극 밀도와 입체각에 대한 오차를 크게 줄일 수 있었다.

  • In this paper, high resolution spectral estimation by AR modelling and principal comonent analysis is proposed. The given data can be expanded by the eigenvectors of the estimated covariance matrix. The eigenspectrum is obtained for each eigenvector using the Autoressive(AR) spectral estimation technique. The final spectrum estimate is obtained by weighting each eigenspectrum with the corresponding eigenvalue and summing them. Although the proposed method increases in computational complexity, it shows good frequency resolution especially for short data records and narrow-band data whose signal-to-noise ratio is low.

The Chemical Composition of V1719 Cyg: δ Scuti Type Star without the Accretion of Interstellar Matter

  • High resolution spectroscopic observation of V1719 Cyg were made at 1.8 meter telescope of Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy observatory in Korea. Spectral resolving power was R=45,000, signal to noise ratio S/N>100. The abundances of 28 chemical elements from carbon to dysprosium were found with the spectrum synthesis method. The abundances of oxygen, titanium, vanadium and elements with Z>30 are overabundant by 0.2-0.9 dex with respect to the solar values. Correlations of derived abundances with condensation temperatures and second ionization potentials of these elements are discussed. The possible influence of accretion from interstellar environment is not so strong as for ρ Pup and other stars with similar temperatures. The signs of accretion are absent. The comparison of chemical composition with solar system r- & s-process abundance patterns shows the enhancement of the photosphere by s-process elements.

Optimum Design of an Indoor Package Air-Conditioner's Flow Path by Taguchi Method (다구찌 방법에 의한 PAC 실내기 유로의 최적설계)

  • In this study, the optimum design process of an indoor package air-conditioner (PAC) was implemented by Taguchi method. The goal of this study is to obtain the best set condition of each control factor composing of an indoor PAC. The number of revolution of a double inlet sirocco fan installed in an indoor PAC was measured by the orthogonal array of $L_{18}(2^3{\times}3^4)$ and analysed by using the-smaller- the-better characteristic among the static characteristic analyses. As a result, the optimum condition of an indoor PAC was found as a set of when the cost of production, assembling and working conditions were considered. Moreover, the number of revolution of a double-inlet sirocco fan used for an optimum condition was reduced about 8.5% more than that of a standard condition for the target flowrate of $18.5m^3/min$.

  • In this paper, the prediction for the optimized bead geometry such as bead width, height, penetration and bead area in the Gas Metal Arc (GMA) welding with Taguchi method is presented. An orthogonal array, and the Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio employed to investigate the welding quality characteristics together in the selection of process parameters in the GMA welding process, to analyze the effect of each process parameter on the bead geometry and to finally determine the process parameters with the optimal bead geometry. Experimental results fi-om this research show that the Taguchi method provides an effective tool to enhance the accuracy of the optimized bead geometry.
