End-to-end Packet Statistics Analysis using OPNET Modeler Wireless Suite (OPNET Modeler Wireless Suite를 이용한 종단간 패킷 통계 분석)

  • The objective of this paper is to analyze and characterize end-to-end packet statistics after modeling and simulation of WiFi (IEEE 802.11g) and WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e) of a virtual wireless network using OPNET Modeler Wireless Suite. Wireless internal and external network simulators such as Remcom's Wireless InSite Real Time (RT) module, WinProp: W-LAN/Fixed WiMAX/Mobile WiMAX, and SMI system, are designed to consider data transfer rate based on wireless propagation signal strength. However, we approached our research in a different perspective without support for characteristic of these wireless network simulators. That is, we will discuss the purpose of a visual analysis for these packets, how to receive each point packets (e.g., wireless user, base station or access point, and http server) through end-to-end virtual network modeling based on integrated wired and wireless network without wireless propagation signal strength. Measuring packet statistics is important in QoS metric analysis among wireless network performance metrics. Clear packet statistics is an especially essential metric in guaranteeing QoS for WiMAX users. We have found some interesting results through modeling and simulation for virtual wireless network using OPNET Modeler Wireless Suite. We are also able to analyze multi-view efficiency through experiment/observation result.

A Design of Ultra Compact S-Band PCM/FM Telemetry Transmitter (초소형 S-대역 PCM/FM 텔레메트리 송신기 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, we propose an ultra compact S-Band PCM/FM telemetry transmitter. The equipment is compact, so it can be applied to a limited space and capable of stable data transmission was designed and manufactured even with specifications set differently for each operating environment and system. RF direct conversion structure is used for the miniaturization of equipment, an RF transmission board, Power distribution board, and a signal processing board were implemented on a single PCB, so that the function of the transmitter could be performed with a minimum device. According to the target specification, variable output of 1~10W and variable data rate of 390kbps~12.5Mbps is possible in S-Band(2,200~2,400MHz) without degradation of performance. To verify the performance of the equipment, the RF performance test and BER measurement test were performed after the equipment was manufactured. It was confirmed that the OBW, null-to-null bandwidth, 1st IMD, Spurious emission, Phase noise specification of the PCM/FM modulated signal which is presented by the IRIG standard were satisfied, and we can confirm the data received using the transmitter inspection equipment were transmitted normally without distortion.

Development of the combustion noise index and control algorithm through signal processing of in-cylinder pressure for a diesel engine (연소압력 신호처리를 통한 디젤엔진 연소음 지수 및 제어 알고리듬 개발)

  • To control and improve a combustion behavior of an engine, various studies for the in-cylinder pressure have been consistently carried out. In this paper, the level of the combustion noise for a diesel engine is estimated from the in-cylinder pressure and defined as the combustion noise index. The combustion noise index is calculated from the FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) of the in-cylinder pressure and its validity is verified. The control system based on the combustion noise index is developed and implemented in a vehicle. A number of injection parameters are controlled to meet the desired combustion noise index, and the combustion noise of a vehicle is improved up to 4.0 dB(A) in the specified frequency band.

Development of Fine Dust Measurement Method based on Ultrasonic Scattering (초음파 산란 기법을 적용한 미세먼지 측정법 개발)

  • New concept of fine dust measurement method is suggested based on ultrasonic scattering. These days, fine dust has been social problem in Korea, and many researches has been conducted including the area structural maintenance. Conventional measurement system such as optical scattering and semiconductor has a limit from environmental factors like relative humidity. However, ultrasound is based on mechanical waves, which perturb mechanical properties of medium such as density and elastic constants. Using the advantage, the algorithm for fine dust measurement is derived and evaluated using 2-D finite difference method. The numerical analysis simulates ultrasonic wave propagation inside multiple scattering medium like fine dust in air. Signal processing scheme is also suggested and the results show that the error of the algorithm is around minimum of 0.7 and maximum of 24.9 in the number density unit. It is shown that cross-section of fine dust is a key parameter to improve the accuracy of algorithm.

Effect of subcutaneous treatment with human umbilical cord blood-derived multipotent stem cells on peripheral neuropathic pain in rats

  • In this study, we aim to determine the in vivo effect of human umbilical cord blood-derived multipotent stem cells (hUCB-MSCs) on neuropathic pain, using three, principal peripheral neuropathic pain models. Four weeks after hUCB-MSC transplantation, we observed significant antinociceptive effect in hUCB-MSC-transplanted rats compared to that in the vehicle-treated control. Spinal cord cells positive for c-fos, CGRP, p-ERK, p-p 38, MMP-9 and MMP 2 were significantly decreased in only CCI model of hUCB-MSCs-grafted rats, while spinal cord cells positive for CGRP, p-ERK and MMP-2 significantly decreased in SNL model of hUCB-MSCs-grafted rats and spinal cord cells positive for CGRP and MMP-2 significantly decreased in SNI model of hUCB-MSCs-grafted rats, compared to the control 4 weeks or 8weeks after transplantation (p<0.05). However, cells positive for TIMP-2, an endogenous tissue inhibitor of MMP-2, were significantly increased in SNL and SNI models of hUCB-MSCs-grafted rats. Taken together, subcutaneous injection of hUCB-MSCs may have an antinociceptive effect via modulation of pain signaling during pain signal processing within the nervous system, especially for CCI model. Thus, subcutaneous administration of hUCB-MSCs might be beneficial for improving those patients suffering from neuropathic pain by decreasing neuropathic pain activation factors, while increasing neuropathic pain inhibition factor.

Improved initial cell searching algorithm for 3GPP W-CDMA systems (3GPP W-CDMA 시스템에서 개선된 초기 셀 탐색 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, the improved initial cell searching algorithm is proposed for 3GPP(The third Generation Partnership Project) W-CDMA system. The key objective of the proposed algorithm is to reduce searching slot and to increase the reliability in the first stage of cell searching algorithm in order to accomplish the second stage. So the proposed algorithm makes the mobile station transfers to the second stage from the first stage, just after the slot synchronization is declared successively at the same time-offset. In order to compare the proposed algorithm with the conventional one, the simulations are accomplished for cell search algorithm for 3GPP W-CDMA systems in the multipath Rayleigh fading channel. The first stage of conventional algorithm is also analyzed in a Rayleigh fading channel in order to prove simulation to be reasonable. In this paper, the proposed algorithm presents the better performance than conventional one. We also propose some parameters for optimal performance.

Estimation of Structural Dynamic Properties Using Signal Processing Techniques (신호처리기법을 이용한 구조물의 동특성치 추정)

  • Conventional methods to estimate natural frequencies and damping ratios of structures from measured response time series obtained during impact tests are reviewed. Maximum Entropy Method and Least Square Prony Method are introduced to alleviate the inherent limitation of the conventional methods. The performance of the methods are explored through computer simulation. As an example of application, they are applied to the time series obtained from an anchor drop-and-snup test of a container ship and the result is compared to that of conventional FFT method. As a result of the computer simulation, it is found that Maximum Entropy Method is very efficient to estimate natural frequencies of structures when two neighboring natural frequencies are close enough and short data records are only available, but it is not a reliable estimator for damping ratios. And it is also found that Least Square Prony Method is efficient to estimate the natural frequencies and damping ratios of highly damped structural system, but the estimation efficiency of damping ratios is significantly deteriorated in the presence of significant additive noise.

  • Inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) is coherent imaging system formed by conducting signal processing of received data which consists of radar cross section(RCS) reflected from maneuvering target. A novel algorithm is proposed to compensate inter-pulse motion(IPM) for the purpose of forming an well-focused ISAR image through signals generated by stepped chirp waveform( SCW). The velocity and acceleration of the target related to IPM are estimated based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) which has been widely used in optimization technique. Furthermore, a modified PSO which enables us to improve the performance of PSO is used to compensate IPM in a very short-time. Simulation results using point scatterer model of a Boeing-737 aircraft validate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this study an adaptive algorithm with optimum convergence factor for steepest descent method is proposed, which controls automatically the filter order to take the appropriate level. So far, fixed order filters have been used when adaptive filter is employed according to the priori knowledge or experience in various adaptive signal processing applications. But, it is so difficult to know the filter order needed in real implementations that high order filters have to be performed. As a result, redundant calculations are increased in the case of high order filters. The proposed variable length optimum convergence factor (VLOCF) algorithm takes the appropriated filter order within the given one so that the redundant calculation is decreased to get the enhancement of convergence speed and smaller convergence error during the steady state. The proposed algorithm is evaluated to prove the validity by computer simulation for system Identification.

A Study on Multi-Pulse Speech Coding Method by Using V/S/TSIUVC (V/S/TSIUVC를 이용한 멀티펄스 음성부호화 방식에 관한 연구)

  • In a speech coding system using excitation source of voiced and unvoiced, it would be involved a distortion of speech qualify in case coexist with a voiced and an unvoiced consonants in a frame. This paper present a new multi-pulse coding method by using V/S/TSIUVC switching, individual pitch pulses and TSIUVC approximation-synthesis method in order to restrict a distortion of speech quality. The TSIUVC is extracted by using the zero crossing rate and individual pitch pulse. And the TSIUVC extraction rate was 91% for female voice and 96.2% for male voice respectively. The important thing is that the frequency information of 0.347kHz below and 2.813kHz above can be made with high quality synthesis waveform within TSIUVC. I evaluate the MPC use V/UV and the FBD-MPC use V/S/TSIUVC. As a result, I knew that synthesis speech of the FBD-MPC was better in speech quality than synthesis speech of the MPC.
