  • Integrity of the control and instrumental cables in nuclear power plant is important to maintain the stability of the nuclear power plants. In order to diagnose the integrity of the cables, the diagnostic methods based on reflectometry have been studied. The reflectometry is a non-destructive method and it is applicable to diagnose the live cables. We introduce a Gaussian enveloped linear chirp reflectometry to diagnose the cables in the nuclear power plants. In this paper, we estimate the instantaneous frequency of the Gaussian enveloped linear chirp signal by using the weighted robust least squares filtering to localize the impedance discontinuities in the class 1E instrumental cable.

위성통신 중계기에서의 FPGA를 이용한 Gigabit 시리얼 송수신기 설계 (A Gigabit Serial Transceiver Design Using FPGA for Satellite Communication Transponder)

  • 본 논문에서는 위성통신 디지털 중계기에서 backplane 구조 기반의 Gigabit 시리얼(Serial) 송수신기(Transceiver)에 대해 기술하였다. 송수신기는 프로그램밍 가능한 Xilinx space-grade Virtex-5 FPGA를 이용하여 다수의 광대역 채널에 대해 모든 경우의 스위칭 기능을 지원한다. 이러한 기능을 구현하기 위해 Virtex-5 FPGA 내부에 탑재된 GTX transceiver(고속 시리얼 송수신)을 사용한다. FPGA를 사용함으로써 부품이 추가되지 않아 구현이 간단해지는 장점이 있다. 고속의 시리얼 송수신기를 구현하기 위해서 PCB 디자인에 대해 신호 무결성(Signal Integrity) 시뮬레이션을 필수적으로 수행하였다. 신호 무결성 시뮬레이션을 통해 GTX 전송 선로에 대한 S-parameter, Eye diagram, 채널 지터(Channel Jitter) 성능을 분석하였고, GTX transceiver가 오류 없이 동작할 것으로 확인하였다. 마지막으로 제안한 PCB 디자인은 위성통신 디지털 중계기 시험인증모델(Engineering Qualification Model-2) 제작에 활용될 것이다.

  • This study proposes the integrity evaluation of bogie frame using ultrasonic waves-fractography analysis. Analysis objectives in this study are to investigate fracture planes of damaged zone by the A-scan method. The surface condition of fracture plane shows degree of degradation by stress concentration. The detection of the natural defects in bogie frame is performed using the characteristics of echodynamic pattern in ultrasonic signal. Results of ultrasonic testing agree fairly well with those of actual fracture plane. In quantitative fractography analysis, microstructures of actual fracture plane turned out to be intergranular and transgranular fracture, Proposed ultrasonic-fractography analysis in this study can be used for the integrity evaluation of the bogie frame

  • 전자 회로의 집적도와 동작 주파수가 증가함에 따라 신호 전달 특성을 향상시키는 것이 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 인쇄 회로 기판에서 패드의 곡률 변화에 따른 신호 전달 특성을 분석하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과, 곡률이 커질수록 신호 전달 특성은 개선되었고, 전송선로의 두께가 얇을수록 곡률 변화에 더 적은 영향을 받으며, 길이가 짧을수록 곡률 변화에 더 큰 영향을 받는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • 이 논문에서는 불규칙한 배선 구조에 대한 가상직선(virtual-straight line) 파라미터 추출 방법과 이를 이용한 새롭고 빠른 시간 영역에서의 시뮬레이션 방법론을 보이고 검증한다. 비선형인 트랜지스터의 특성을 고려한 인터컨넥트 회로의 시간영역에서의 신호응답은 모델차수감소법(model order reduction method)을 사용하여 수행된다. 모델차수감소법은 인터컨넥트 회로의 단위길이당 파라미터를 이용하므로 인터컨넥트의 길이가 서로 다르고 불규칙한 형태를 갖는 인터컨넥트에 대해서 직접적으로 모델차수감소법을 적용하기 위해 가상직선 모델을 사용하여 인터컨넥트의 파라미터를 추출한다. 또한 모델차수감소법은 일반적인 Berkeley SPICE의 모듈로 구성하여 인터컨넥트 회로의 시간영역 시간응답을 구하였으며 일반적인 회로 시뮬레이터인 HSPICE의 시뮬레이션 결과와 비교하여 잘 일치한다는 것을 보인다. 제안된 방법은 복잡한 다층 배선 구조에 대한 신속하고 정확한 시간영역 신호응답을 제공함으로써 고성능 VLSI 회로 설계에 유용하게 적용할 수 있다.

A Development of GPS SIS Anomalies Generation Software

  • In this paper, GPS signal anomaly generation software is proposed which can be used for the analysis of GPS signal anomaly effect and the design, verification, and operation test of anomalous signal monitoring technique. For the implementation of anomalous signal generation technique, anomalous signals are generated using a commercial signal generation simulator, and their effects and characteristics are analyzed. An error model equation is proposed from the result of analysis, and the anomalous signal generation software is constructed based on this equation. The proposed anomalous signal generation software has high scalability so that users can easily utilize and apply, and is economical as the additional cost for purchasing equipment is not necessary. Also, it is capable of anomalous signal generation based on real-time signal by comparing with the commercial signal generation simulator.

비접촉 SH-EMAT을 이용한 TIG용접부 건전성 평가 (Evaluation of the Integrity of TIG Welding Using Non-Contact SH-EMAT)

  • An EMAT can be used to reliably detect defects as it serves as a non-contact transducer with the ability to transmit ultrasonic waves into specimens without couplant. Moreover, an EMAT can easily generate desired waves by altering the design of the coil and magnet. This study proposes an SH-EMAT to evaluate the integrity of the TIG welding part. A stainless steel was welded using the TIG welding method. The welding current was varied to create artificial defects. Both the PA-UT and the RT were applied to verify the defect size. The experimental results generated by using the EMAT were compared with those methods. The amplitude was observed to decrease with an increase in the defect size. These results confirmed that the presence of defects can be reliably detected by attenuation of signal amplitude. The results demonstrated that the proposed method is suitable for evaluating the integrity of TIG welding.

Essential Role of brc-2 in Chromosome Integrity of Germ Cells in C. elegans

  • brc-2, an ortholog of BRCA2 in Caenorhabditis elegans, is essential in the maintenance of genetic integrity. In C. elegans, cellular location correlates with meiotic progression, and transgene-induced cosuppression is observed in the germ line but not in somatic cells. We used these unique features to dissect the role of brc-2 in the germ line from that in somatic cells. In situ hybridization of wild type animals revealed that brc-2 gene expression was higher in oocytes than in other germline cells, and was barely detectable in mitotic cells. In contrast, germ cells containing multicopies of the brc-2 transgene showed no significant in situ hybridization signal at any oogenesis stage, confirming that brc-2 expression was functionally cosuppressed in the transgenic germ line. RAD-51 foci formation in response to DNA damage was abrogated in brc-2-cosuppressed germ cells, whereas wild-type germ cells showed strong RAD-51 foci formation. These germ cells exhibited massive chromosome fragmentation and decompaction instead of six bivalent chromosomes in diakinesis. Accordingly, lethality was observed after the early stage of germline development. These results suggest that brc-2 plays essential roles in chromosome integrity in early prophase, and therefore is crucial in meiotic progression and embryonic survival.
