PURPOSES : Although signalized intersections have been considered the best way to control traffic volume in urban areas for several decades, roundabouts are currently being discussed as an alternative way to control traffic volume, especially when traffic is light. Because a roundabout's efficiency depends on the load geometry as well as the traffic volume, design guidelines for roundabouts are recommended only if the incoming traffic volume is very low. It is rare to substitute a roundabout for an existing signalized intersection in urban areas. This study aims to estimate the benefits from the transformation of an existing signalized intersection into a roundabout in an urban area. When there is a more moderate volume of traffic, roundabouts can be effectively used by optimizing signals located at an approaching roadway. METHODS : The methodologies of this paper are as follows: First, a signalized intersection was analyzed to determine the traffic characteristics. Second, the signalized intersection was transformed into a roundabout using VISSIM microscopic traffic simulation. Then, we estimated and analyzed the effects and the performance of the roundabout. In addition, we adjusted a method to improve the benefits of the transformation via the optimization of signals located at an approaching road to control the incoming traffic volume. RESULTS : The results of this research are as follows: The signal-optimized roundabout improved delays compared with the signalized intersection during the morning peak hour, non-peak hour, and evening peak hour by 1.78%, 12.45%, and 12.72%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS : According to the simulation results of each scenarios, the signal-optimized roundabout had less delay time than the signalized intersection. If optimized signal control algorithms are installed in roundabouts in the future, this will lead to more efficient traffic management.

Nowadays, breaking through the conventional traffic signal control method based on mathematical optimization, artificial intelligence began to be used in the area. In response to this trend, many studies are ongoing to figure out how to utilize AI technology properly for traffic signal optimization. They just simply focus on which method will work well besides lots of machine learning techniques and abandon the reward function engineering. In many cases, the reward function consists of the average delay of the vehicles in the intersection. However, this may lead to AI's misunderstanding about the traffic signal control: what AI regards as a good situation may not be realistic. Even the reward function itself may not meet the service level. Therefore, this study analyzes the problems of previous reward functions and will suggest how to reward function can be enhanced.
Taguchi's parameter design seeks proper choice of levels of controllable factors (Parameters in Taguchi's terminology) that makes the qualify characteristic of a product optimal while making its variability small. This aim can be achieved by response surface techniques that allow flexibility in modeling and analysis. In this article, a collection of response surface modeling and analysis techniques is proposed to deal with the multiresponse optimization problem in experimentation with Taguchi's signal and noise factors.
Signal optimization model for alternative use of lanes at a signalized intersection with an stop-line added backward was presented in this paper. The simulation results shot-ed that the traffic fed from the stop-line passed the intersection in each specified phasing interval for left and through traffic. The experimental results indicated that the proposed model was much superior to traditional signal optimization methodology in reducing delay, fuel consumption, and disutility index for delay and stops. The effects for reducing delay were greater than those for doing fuel consumption and disutility index due to the added stop-line. The proposed model is expected to alleviate traffic congestion at intersections, both which have no left turn pocket, and which have large left turn volume. The model is recommended to adapted for intersections spaced long among them with no near driveway.
Used optimization techniques as solution for mobile network have been implemented as a reference systems for various applications against fading and signals perturbation, in addition each transition to 5th generation telecommunication standards require a deep studies in order to park an applied instantaneous process. The paper describes a preliminary planning and a careful preparation to update both subscriber radio access network as well as data transmission network this approach conducts to make network resource updates invisible for customers and with minimal costs for mobile operators basically in terms of delay. In addition, network operators transit to mobile networks, multimedia services efficient delivery are considered the challenging application and the most promising for mobile network operators today, this work conduct to optimize video consumption of mobile users which are exponentially increasing. The interference is a complex phenomenon in mobile radio telecommunication system, and a mobile phone can be a source of interference to another one. Actual advances in technology necessitate the need for the complicated software solution that can take several unexpected phenomena in consideration to rise to a level higher than ever. The capability needs today require the use of Drive test which is used to take the performance of network in the field by using a special software called TEMS investigation, it have been implemented as standalone systems for various applications. The paper focuses on considering as the best technical for optimization of mobile networks, analysis and processing of signal, a Drive Test is the method used to take the performance of network in the field by using a special software called TEMS investigation. Most used in the world, this software is reputed to detect and analyze many problems of mobile network between the mobile phone and the transmitter: BTS in case of GSM and Node B for UMTS. An example of that is interference in radio communication. It exists permanently and it degrades considerably the quality of received signal when it exceeds certain levels.

In this paper a watermarking algorithm is proposed to optimize the capacity of the digital watermark insertion in an experimental threshold using the characteristics of human visual system(HVS), adaptive scale factors, and weight functions based on discrete wavelet transform. After the original image is decomposed by a 3-level discrete wavelet transform, the watermarks for capacity optimization are inserted into all subbands except the baseband, by applying the important coefficients from the experimental threshold in the wavelet region. The adaptive scale factors and weight functions based on HVS are considered for the capacity optimization of the digital watermark insertion in order to enhance the robustness and invisibility. The watermarks are consisted of gaussian random sequences and detected by correlation. The experimental results showed that this algorithm can preserve a fine image quality against various attacks such as the JPEG lossy compression, noise addition, cropping, blurring, sharpening, linear and non-linear filtering, etc.

In this paper, the method of region segmentation using genetic algorithm is proposed for an improvement of efficiency in moving picture coding. A genetic algorithm is the method that searches a large probing space using only a function value for a optimal combination consecutively. By progressing both motion presumption and region segmentation at once, we can assign the motion vector in a image to a small block or a pixel respectively, and transform the capacity of coding and a signal to noise rate into a problem of optimization. That is to say, there is close correlation between region segmentation and motion presumption in motion-compensated prediction coding. This is to optimize the capacity of coding and a S/N ratio. This is to arrange the motion vector in each block of picture according to the state of optimization. Therefore, we examined both the data type of genetic algorithm and the method of data processing to obtain the results of optimal region segmentation in this paper. And we confirmed the validity of a proposed method using the test pictures by means of computer simulation.
With the incitation to reduce power consumption and the aggressive reuse of spectral resources, there is an inevitable trend towards the deployment of small-cell networks by decomposing a traditional single-tier network into a multi-tier network with very high throughput per network area. However, this cell size reduction increases the complexity of network operation and the severity of cross-tier interference. In this paper, we consider a downlink two-tier network comprising of a multiple-antenna macrocell base station and a single femtocell access point, each serving multiples users with a single antenna. In this scenario, we treat the following beamforming optimization problems: i) Total transmit power minimization problem; ii) mean-square error balancing problem; and iii) interference power minimization problem. In the presence of perfect channel state information (CSI), we formulate the optimization algorithms in a centralized manner and determine the optimal beamformers using standard convex optimization techniques. In addition, we propose semi-decentralized algorithms to overcome the drawback of centralized design by introducing the signal-to-leakage plus noise ratio criteria. Taking into account imperfect CSI for both centralized and semi-decentralized approaches, we also propose robust algorithms tailored by the worst-case design to mitigate the effect of channel uncertainty. Finally, numerical results are presented to validate our proposed algorithms.

The present work addresses the challenging problem of coordinating power allocation with interference management in multi-robot networks by applying the promising expansion capabilities of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and full duplex systems, which achieves it for maximizing the throughput of networks under the impacts of Doppler frequency shifts and external jamming. The proposed power allocation with interference coordination formulation accounts for three types of the interference, including cross-tier, co-tier, and mixed-tier interference signals with cluster head nodes operating in different full-duplex modes, and their signal-to-noise-ratios are respectively derived under the impacts of Doppler frequency shifts and external jamming. In addition, various optimization algorithms, including two centralized iterative optimization algorithms and three decentralized optimization algorithms, are applied for solving the complex and non-convex combinatorial optimization problem associated with the power allocation and interference coordination. Simulation results demonstrate that the overall network throughput increases gradually to some degree with increasing numbers of MIMO antennas. In addition, increasing the number of clusters to a certain extent increases the overall network throughput, although internal interference becomes a severe problem for further increases in the number of clusters. Accordingly, applications of multi-robot networks require that a balance should be preserved between robot deployment density and communication capacity.
This paper describes new on-line small signal stability assessment and its application using the time series simulated phasor measurement data. Using FFT technique and optimization method, the suggested method can effectively identify all of mode frequencies involved in measured data and calculate the damping ratio with accuracy.
