A study on the Development of an electronic control unit using digital sensors for propulsion systems (디지털센서를 이용한 추진 시스템 전자 제어장치 연구)

  • Electronic control units for propulsion systems are devices which compute control algorithm by processing the systems' internal sensor signals. Due to the effect of transmission between sensors and a control unit, previous analog systems have drawbacks of signal attenuation and susceptibility to noises. However, a digital sensor can be less influenced by the electrical cable line as it includes sensor, AMP, and AD converter in one module. In addition, it can reduce the process time for control algorithm because extra S/W filtering process is not needed. The current study shows how to process signals for an electronic control unit using digital sensors.

${\mu}$BGA and ${\mu}$Spring Packages for Rambus DRAM Applications and Their Electrical Characteristics (Rambus DRAM실장용 ${mu}!$BGA (Ball Grid Array) 및 ${mu}!$Spring 패키지와 전기적 특성)

  • This paper presents the structure of a $\mu$Spring package, its fabrication process and an analysis of its electrical characteristics compared to that of a $\mu$BGA. It was found that both $\mu$BGA and $\mu$Spring packages provide with outstanding high speed signal transmission characteristics due to their lower inductance of package interconnection lines, smaller than half of inductance of TSOP package lines. Even the worst case substrate trace of a Rambus DRAM $\mu$Spring package yields the line inductance of 2.9nH, which provides with 25% margin compared to the Rambus DRAM specification of 4nH. The fabrication cost of $\mu$Spring package is lower than that of $\mu$BGA by 50%, passes 1000 thermal cycles, meets JEDEC Level 1 specification whereas $\mu$BGA does not, and thereby yields high reliability and strong competing power.

  • This paper introduces surveillance equipment "ADS-B", the core subject of traffic control system and study of ADS-B 1090ES ground receiver. The standard is set not only for functional but also its reliability by analyzing international standard documents and existing products. The Bias circuit is designed for less power consumption, low noise and high gain for RF module. The signal processing is capable of overcoming its bad conditions. MCU part is configured with the latest CPU for high speed communication with external parts and SNMP is selected for remote control communication. The performance of developed receiver satisfies national and international standards and its functions are more advanced compared to foreign receivers.

Development of a Single Fire Alarm System of House Based on Wireless Communication (무선 감응식 주택 단독 화재 경보 시스템 개발)

  • In this paper, a single house fire alarm device, which can solve the problem of fire perception at midnight time and the attenuation of alarm signal due to the wall between rooms based on the wireless communication, was developed. The radio controlled fire alarm device was designed to allow fire to be recognized quickly and accurately by monitoring the temperature and $CO_2$ concentration based on the temperature sensor and gas sensor, by detecting the fire in the house and by transmitting the fire alarm to the individual wireless alarms of other rooms using the wireless transmission/reception module. Using the Arduino as a main control device, three independent fire alarm device prototypes were made, and their usefulness was verified by the correct operations in temperature and gas tests.

  • The next decade promises drastic improvements and additions to global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). Plans for GPS modernization include a civilian code measurement on the L2 frequency and a new L5 signal at 1176.45 MHz. Current speculations indicate that a fully operational constellation with these improvements could be available by 2013. Simultaneously, the Galileo Joint Undertaking is in the development and validation stages of introducing a parallel GNSS called Galileo. Galileo will also transmit freely available satellite navigation signals on three frequencies and is scheduled to be fully operational as early as 2008. In other words, a dual system receiver (e.g., GPS+GALILEO) for general users can access six civil frequencies transmitted by at least fifty eights navigation satellites in space. The advent of GALILEO and the modernization of GPS raise a lot of attention to the study of the compatibility and interoperability of the two systems. A number of performance analyses have been conducted in a global scale with respect to availability, reliability, accuracy and integrity in different simulated scenarios (such as open sky and urban canyons) for the two systems individually and when integrated. Therefore, the scope of this article aims at providing the technical benefits analysis for Taiwan specifically in terms of the performance indices mentioned above in a local scale, especially in typical urban canyon scenarios. The conclusions gained by this study will be applied by the Land Survey Bureau of Taiwanese as the guideline for developing future GNSS tracking facilities and dual GNSS processing module for precise surveying applications in static and kinematic modes.

  • This paper presents the development methods which Samsung GPS baseband chip is called S3E4510X. Specification of S3E4510X and design methodology of baseband architecture is presented with a study of their effects. Also GPS core block and software are described in detail. We designed and implemented the test board with RF module for evaluating performance via static test dynamic test and each performance factors using live signal and CPS simulator. Test results show that our development GPS baseband chip have effectively performance for mobile handset Location Based Service (LBS) and its practical use for navigation.

  • Recently, the performance of binaural hearing aids is rapidly improved with the technology advancement of wireless communication, digital signal processing, and integrated circuit design. However, the previous hearing aids developer platforms can't be applied to binaural hearing aids developing, because it has no consideration for wireless communication and binaural hearing control. Also, the previous developer platforms are not easy to use for the algorithm development, because programming languages are limited. In this paper, we designed and implemented the open platform board for binaural hearing aids developing. The designed board can be programmed by general programming language and can be used wireless communication module. In order to verify the designed open platform board, we used the volume control algorithm using two open platform board. As a result of experiment, we verified the performance of designed and implemented open platform board that was successfully operated the binaural hearing control and the wireless communication.

Auto Dispatch Device of Parturition Beginning Signal by Temperature and a Load Sensor at Ubiquitous Circumstance in Pig Industry (양돈산업에 있어서 유비쿼터스 환경에서 온도 및 하중 센서에 의한 자동 분만 알림 시스템 개발)

  • This study tried to develop the system (device) that automatically notify a manager of condition just before and after farrowing to extend ubiquitous-based technology and to increase efficiency of delivery care and productivity by reducing human labor and time on standby when farrowing management is done in the difficult and hard working environment of farrowing such as night or holidays in field sand especially in pig industry. In this test, selected 10 gilts were executed timed artificial insemination and were set up each temperature sensor and load sensor to them 3 days before the estimated farrowing day and were observed the farrowing situation. This study was embodied the NESPOT-based (KT Corporation) monitoring system, the system to transmit data in real time by utilization of wireless LAN and the sensor module to apply the ubiquitous environment to them. And this study was observed the situation to automatically notify situations of 10 gilts that first bore just before and after farrowing. The result obtained the farrowing situations of them in real time by setup of the NESPOT-based monitoring system to check farrowing situation directly is as follow. The average time of the automatic notice about situation just before farrowing by the temperature sensor was 27.5 minutes before the beginning of farrowing (the expulsion time of a piglet). 6 of 8 pregnant gilts that first bore automatically were notified situations just before farrowing and the temperature sensors inserted into 2 ones before farrowing were omitted. (The automatic notice rate 75%) The average time of the automatic notice of situation just after farrowing by the load sensor was taken 46.5 minutes after the beginning of farrowing (the expulsion time of a first piglet). The average gestation period of 8 ones that first bore and were tested by the automatic notice of farrowing situation was 115.6 days. This result found that the automatic farrowing notice system by the temperature sensor is more efficient than the load sensor as the automatic farrowing alarm device and sanitary treatment and improvement of the omission rate were required.

System Design and Performance Analysis of 3D Imaging Laser Radar for the Mapping Purpose (맵핑용 3차원 영상 레이저 레이다의 시스템 설계 및 성능 분석)

  • The system design and the system performance analysis of 3D imaging laser radar system for the mapping purpose is addressed in this article. For the mapping, a push-bloom scanning method is utilized. The pulsed fiber laser with high pulse energy and high pulse repetition rate is used for the light source of laser radar system. The high sensitive linear mode InGaAs avalanche photo-diode is used for the laser receiver module. The time-of-flight of laser pulse from the laser to the receiver is calculated by using high speed FPGA based signal processing board. To reduce the walk error of laser pulse regardless of the intensity differences between pulses, the time of flight is measured from peak to peak of laser pulses. To get 3D image with a single pixel detector, Risley scanner which stirs the laser beam in an ellipsoidal pattern is used. The system laser energy budget characteristics is modeled using LADAR equation, from which the system performances such as the pulse detection probability, false alarm and etc. are analyzed and predicted. The test results of the system performances are acquired and compared with the predicted system performance. According to test results, all the system requirements are satisfied. The 3D image which was acquired by using the laser radar system is also presented in this article.

FPGA Implementation of VME System Controller (VME 시스템 제어기의 FPGA 구현)

  • For FA (factory automation) and ATE (automatic test equipment) in the industrial area, the standard bus needs to increase the system performance of multiprocessor environment. VME(versa module european package format) bus is appropriated to the standard bus but has features of small package and low board density. Beside, the density of board and semiconductor have grown to become significant issues that affect development time, project cost and field diagnostics. To fit this trend, in this paper, we composed Revision C.1 (IEEE std. P1014-1987) of the integrated environment for the main function such as arbitration, interrupt and interface between, VMEbus and several control modules Also the designed, VME system controller is implemented on FPGA that can be located even into slot 1. The control and function modules are coded with VHDL mid-fixed description method and then those operations are verified by simulation. As a result of experiment, we confirmed the most important that is the operation of Bus timer about Bus error signal should occur within $56{\mu}m$, and both control and function modules have the reciprocal operation correctly. Thus, the constructed VHDL library will be able to apply the system based VMEbus and ASIC design.
