  • Objective: The aim of this study was to develop the assistive device for accelerator and brake pedals using bio-signals from the prefrontal lobe in the driving simulator and evaluate its performance. Background: There is lack of assistive devices for the driving in peoples with disabilities in Korea. However, if bio-signals and/or brain waves are used at driving a car, the people with serious physical limitations can improve their community mobility. Method: 15 subjects with driver's license participated in this study for experiment of driving performance evaluation in the simulator. Each subject drove the simulator the same course 10 times in three separated groups which use different interface controllers to accelerate and brake: (1) conventional pedal group, (2) joystick group and (3) bio-signal group(horizontal quick glance of the eyes and clench teeth). All experiments were recorded and the driving performances were evaluated by three inspectors. Results: Average score of bio-signal group for the driving in the simulator was increased 3% compared with the pedal group and was increased 9% compared with the joystick group(p<0.01). The subjects using bio-signals was decreased 44% in number of deduction compared with others because the device had the built-in modified cruise control. Conclusion: The assistive device for accelerator and brake pedals using bio-signals showed significantly better performance than using general pedal and a joystick interface(p<0.01). Application: This study can be used to design adaptive vehicle for driving in people with disabilities.

  • In this study, damage evaluation of glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites was investigated with acoustic emission method. Specimens of 1.7mm thickness laminate were made from PET and 7 layers o171ass fabrics. Notch and impact loading were added to the specimen and normal tensile test and tensile test with the dead load were carried out. AE signal was measured as the functions of notch ratio to the width0 and impact energy in order to find out the correlation between fracture mode and AE parameters. The result has shown that low amplitude of AE signal was due to the microcrack of matrix and its growth, whereas the amplitude in the mid range was the response to the delamination and interfacial separation. In the range of high amplitude above 90dB. the fracture of glass fabric was found. Tensile strength decreased with increasing notch ratio to the width and impact energy because of tile effect or delamination, the cracking of matrix and stress concentration. In proportion to the size of damaged area. AE signal showed its wider range of frequency and energy as well as increased number of hits.

  • This paper presents an efficient implementation of the 2.4 kbps EHSX(Enhanced Harmonic Stochastic Excitation) speech coder on a TMS320C6701$^{TM}$ floating-point digital signal processor. The EHSX speech codec is based on a harmonic and CELP(Code Excited Linear Prediction) modeling of the excitation signal respectively according to the frame characteristic such as a voiced speech and an unvoiced speech. In this paper, we represent the optimization methods to reduce the complexity for real-time implementation. The complexity in the filtering of a CELP algorithm that is the main part for the EHSX algorithm complexity can be reduced by converting program using floating-point variable to program using fixed-point variable. We also present the efficient optimization methods including the code allocation considering a DSP architecture and the low complexity algorithm of harmonic/pitch search in encoder part. Finally, we obtained the subjective quality of MOS 3.28 from speech quality test using the PESQ(perceptual evaluation of speech quality), ITU-T Recommendation P.862 and could get a goal of realtime operation of the EHSX codec.c.

  • This paper related with the performance evaluation of H-MMA (Hybrid-MMA) which is applying the adaptive modulus and adaptive step size concept to MMA adaptive equalization algorithm in order to reduce the intersymbol interference that is occurred in communication channel for digital code transmission. In the conventional MMA adaptive equalizer, the coefficient is updated by using the equalizer output and possible to compensation of amplitude and phase in 2nd dimensional QAM signal, the equalization performance were degraded due to fixed modulus and step size. For the overcomming the abovemensioned problem, it is possible to improving the equalization performance in the 2nd dimensional QAM signal by applying the adaptive modulus and adaptive step size propotional to equalizer output signal to the conventional MMA algorithm. The computer simulation was performed in the same channel for the compare the performance of MMA and proposed H-MMA which is proposed in this paper. As a result of simulation, the proposed H-MMA has slower convergence time in order to arriving the steady state than MMA. But after the steady state, H-MMA has more superior to the MMA in every performance index and the equalization noise was reduced.

  • This paper related with the performance evaluation of mDSE-MMA adaptive equalization algorithm which is possible to reduce the distortion that occurs in nonlinear communication channel like as additive noise, intersymbol interference and fading when transmitting the QAM signal. The DSE-MMA algorithm is possible to reduce the computational load compared to the presently MMA algorithm, it has the degraded equalization performance by this. In order to improve the performance degradation of DSE-MMA, the mDSE-MMA controls the step size according to the existence of arbitrary radius circle of equalizer output is centered at transmitted symbol point. The performance of proposed mDSE-MMA algorithm were compared to present DSE-MMA using the same channel and noise environment by computer simulation. For this, the recoverd signal constellation which is the output of equalizer, residual isi and MD, MSE learning curve which is represents the convergence performance and SER were applied as performance index. As a result of simulation, the mDSE-MMA has more superior to the DSE-MMA in every performance index.

  • This paper presents a reliability assessment model for the power semiconductors used in wind turbine power converters. In this study, the thermal loadings at different timescales of wind speed are considered. First, in order to address the influence of long-term thermal cycling caused by variations in wind speed, the power converter operation state is partitioned into different phases in terms of average wind speed and wind turbulence. Therefore, the contributions can be considered separately. Then, in regards to the reliability assessment caused by short-term thermal cycling, the wind profile is converted to a wind speed distribution, and the contribution of different wind speeds to the final failure rate is accumulated. Finally, the reliability of an actual power converter semiconductor for a 2.5 MW wind turbine is assessed, and the failure rates induced by different timescale thermal behavior patterns are compared. The effects of various parameters such as cut-in, rated, cut-out wind speed on the failure rate of power devices are also analyzed based on the proposed model.

  • This paper relates with the performance evaluation of QE-MMA (Quantized Error-MMA) adaptive equalization algorithm based on the stepsize and quantizer bit number in order to reduce the intersymbol interference due to nonlinear distortion occurred in the time dispersive channel. The QE-MMA was proposed using the power-of-two arithmetic for the H/W implementation easiness substitutes the multiplication and addition into the shift and addition in the tap coefficient updates process that modifies the SE-MMA which use the high-order statistics of transmitted signal and sign of error signal. But it has different adaptive equalization performance by the step size and quantizer bit number for obtain the sign of error in the generation of error signal in QE-MMA, and it was confirmed by computer simulation. As a simulation, it was confirmed that the convergence speed for reaching steady state depend on stepsize and the residual quantities after steady state depend on the quantizer bit number in the QE-MMA adaptive equalization algorithm performance.

  • In this study, the detection method was developed using real-time PCR to distinguish 4 species (bovine, porcine, horse, and chicken) of raw meats. The genes for distinction of species about meats targeted at 12S rRNA and 16S rRNA parts in mitochondrial DNA. Probes were designed to have a 5' FAM and a TAMRA at the 3' end. This study is to develop 4 species-specific primer and probes about raw materials and real-time PCR on 10 strains to observe the products of non-specific signal for similar species. As a result, any non-specific signal were not detected among each other. Real-time PCR method was developed for quantitation and identification of intentional and unintentional mixture in ground mixed meat (The difference of $C_T$ value between intentional mixture and 100% meat: $${\leq_-}$$ cycles, The difference of $C_T$ value between unintentional mixture and 100% meat: $${\geq_-}$$ cycles). The detection and differentiation of intentional and unintentional mixture in this study would be applied to food safety management for eradication of adulterated food distribution and protection of consumer's right.

  • Recently, a methodology for analyzing complex bio-signals using a deep learning model has emerged among studies that recognize human emotions. At this time, the accuracy of emotion classification may be changed depending on the evaluation method and reliability depending on the kind of data to be learned. In the case of biological signals, the reliability of data is determined according to the noise ratio, so that the noise detection method is as important as that. Also, according to the methodology for defining emotions, appropriate emotional evaluation methods will be needed. In this paper, we propose a wavelet -based noise threshold setting algorithm for verifying the reliability of data for multimodal bio-signal data labeled Valence and Arousal and a method for improving the emotion recognition rate by weighting the evaluation data. After extracting the wavelet component of the signal using the wavelet transform, the distortion and kurtosis of the component are obtained, the noise is detected at the threshold calculated by the hampel identifier, and the training data is selected considering the noise ratio of the original signal. In addition, weighting is applied to the overall evaluation of the emotion recognition rate using the euclidean distance from the median value of the Valence-Arousal plane when classifying emotional data. To verify the proposed algorithm, we use ASCERTAIN data set to observe the degree of emotion recognition rate improvement.
