Dynamic infrared thermography (DIRT) has been used for the preoperative mapping of cutaneous perforators. This technique has shown a positive correlation with intraoperative findings. Our aim was to evaluate the accuracy of perforator mapping with DIRT and augmented reality using a portable projector. For this purpose, three volunteers had both of their anterolateral thighs assessed for the presence and location of cutaneous perforators using DIRT. The obtained image of these "hotspots" was projected back onto the thigh and the presence of Doppler signals within a 10-cm diameter from the midpoint between the lateral patella and the anterior superior iliac spine was assessed using a handheld Doppler device. Hotspots were identified in all six anterolateral thighs and were successfully projected onto the skin. The median number of perforators identified within the area of interest was 5 (range, 3-8) and the median time needed to identify them was 3.5 minutes (range, 3.3-4.0 minutes). Every hotspot was correlated to a Doppler sound signal. In conclusion, augmented reality can be a reliable method for transferring the location of perforators identified by DIRT onto the thigh, facilitating its assessment and yielding a reliable map of potential perforators for flap raising.
This study deals with the side-swipe accidents of 4-legged signalized intersections in Cheongju. The objectives are to analyze the characteristics of the accidents and to develop the related models. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular emphasis to finding the appropriate methodology to modelling. The main results are as follows. First, injuries were analyzed to be twice than property-only accidents in the side-swipe accidents. The accidents were evaluated to occur more in inside-intersection. Also, the accidents were analyzed to be almost the auto-related accidents and to be occurred by the unsafely-driving activity. Second, multiple linear regression models were evaluated to be more statistically significant than multiple non-linear. The most fitted models were analyzed to be the models with the number of accidents as the dependent variable. The factors of side-swipe accidents analyzed in this study were ADT, area of intersection, right-turn-only-lane, number of pedestrian crossings, limited speed of main road, maximum grade and number of signal phase.
Desensitization and acute tolerance are terms used to describe the attenuation of receptor responsiveness by prolonged or intermittent exposure to an agonist. Unlike desensitization of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which is commonly explained by steric hindrance caused by the ${\beta}$-arrestins that are translocated to the activated receptors, molecular mechanisms involved in the acute tolerance of GPCRs remain unclear. Our studies with several GPCRs and related mutants showed that the acute tolerance of GPCRs could occur independently of agonist-induced ${\beta}$-arrestin translocation. A series of co-immunoprecipitation experiments revealed a correlation between receptor tolerance and interactions among receptors, ${\beta}$-arrestin2, and $G{\beta}{\gamma}$. $G{\beta}{\gamma}$ displayed a stable interaction with receptors and ${\beta}$-arrestin2 in cells expressing GPCRs that were prone to undergo tolerance compared to the GPCRs that were resistant to acute tolerance. Strengthening the interaction between $G{\beta}{\gamma}$ and ${\beta}$-arrestin rendered the GPCRs to acquire the tendency of acute tolerance. Overall, stable interaction between the receptor and $G{\beta}{\gamma}$ complex is required for the formation of a complex with ${\beta}$-arrestin, and determines the potential of a particular GPCR to undergo acute tolerance. Rather than turning off the signal, ${\beta}$-arrestins seem to contribute on continuous signaling when they are in the context of complex with receptor and $G{\beta}{\gamma}$.

The quorum sensing (QS) inhibitors that antagonize TraR, a receptor protein for N-3-oxo-octanoyl-L-homoserine lactones (3-oxo-C8-HSL), a QS signal of Agrobacterium tumefaciens were developed. The structural analogues of 3-oxo-C8-HSL were designed by in silico molecular modeling using SYBYL packages, and synthesized by the solid phase organic synthesis (SPOS) method, where the carboxamide bond of 3-oxo-C8-HSL was replaced with a nicotinamide or a sulfonamide bond to make derivatives of N-nicotinyl-L-homoserine lactones or N-sulfonyl-L-homoserine lactones. The in vivo inhibitory activities of these compounds against QS signaling were assayed using reporter systems and compared with the estimated binding energies from the modeling study. This comparison showed fairly good correlation, suggesting that the in silico interpretation of ligand-receptor structures can be a valuable tool for the pre-design of better competitive inhibitors. In addition, these inhibitors also showed anti-biofilm activities against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

This paper deals with sensing ability of smart sensor that has a sensing ability of distinguish materials. We have developed new signal processing method that have distinguish different materials. We made the two type of smart sensors for experiment. The first type of smart sensor is H2 type. The second type of smart sensor is HH type. The smart sensor was developed for recognition of material. And then we developed estimation method of sensing ability of smart sensors. The first method(Sensing Ability Index) is developed for H2 smart sensor. The second method($R_{SAI}$ Index) is developed for HH smart sensor. We estimated sensing ability of smart sensor with new SAI and $R_{SAI}$ method. This paper describes our primary study for a new method of estimate sensing ability of smart sensor, which is need for precision work system. This is a study of dynamic characteristics of smart sensor according to frequency and displacement changing with new SAI and $R_{SAI}$ method. Experiment and analysis are executed for proper dynamic sensing condition. First, we developed advanced smart sensors. Second, we develop new SAI and $R_{SAI}$ methods that have a sensing ability of distinguish materials. Dynamic characteristics of smart sensor are evaluated through new SAI and $R_{SAI}$ method relatively. We can use the new SAI and $R_{SAI}$ method for finding materials. Applications of this method are finding abnormal condition of object(auto-manufacturing), feeling of object(medical product), robotics, safety diagnosis of structure, etc.
Fluorescence change of coumarin labeled phosphate binding protein (PBP-MDCC) was monitored to measure the amount of released inorganic phosphate ($P_{i}$) during nucleoside triphosphate (NTP) hydrolysis reaction. After purification of PBP-MDCC, fluorescence emission spectra showed that fluorescence responded linearly to $P_{i}$ up to about 0.7 molar ratio of $P_{i}$ to protein. The correlation of fluorescence signal and $P_{i}$ standard was measured to obtain [$P_{i}$] - fluorescence intensity standard curve on the stopped-flow instrument. When T7 bacteriophage helicase, double-stranded DNA unwinding enzyme using dTTP hydrolysis as an energy source, reacted with dTTP, the change of fluorescence was able to be converted to the amount of released $P_{i}$ by the $P_{i}$ standard curve. $P_{i}$ release results showed that single-stranded Ml3 DNA stimulated dTTP hydrolysis reaction several folds by T7 helicase. Instead of end point assay in NTP hydrolysis reaction, real time $P_{i}$-release assay by PBP-MDCC was proven to be very easy and convenient to measure released $P_{i}$.

On board satellite magnetometer measures all possible magnetic components, such as the core and crustal components from the inner Earth, and magnetospheric, ionospheric and' its coupled components from the outer Earth. Due to its dipole and non-dipole features, separation of the respective component from the measurements is most difficult unless the comprehensive knowledge of each field characteristics and the consequent modeling methods are solidly constructed. Especially, regional long wavelength magnetic signals of the crust are strongly masked by the main field and dynamic external field and hence difficult to isolate in the satellite measurements. In particular, the un-modeled effects of the strong auroral external fields and the complicated behavior of the core field near the geomagnetic poles conspire to greatly reduce the crustal magnetic signal-to-noise ratio in the polar region relative to the rest of the Earth. We can, however, use spectral correlation theory to filter the static lithospheric and core field components from the dynamic external field effects that are closely related to the geomagnetic storms affecting ionospheric current disturbances. To help isolate regional lithospheric anomalies from core field components, the correlations between CHAMP magnetic anomalies and the pseudo-magnetic effects inferred from satellite gravity-derived crustal thickness variations can also be exploited, Isolation of long wavelengths resulted from the respective source is the key to understand and improve the models of the external magnetic components as well as of the lower crustal structures. We expect to model the external field variations that might also be affected by a sudden upheaval like tsunami by using our algorithm after isolating any internal field components.
In this paper, we propose a biomimetic communication method using a dolphin whistle to covertly transmit the communication signal. A conventional CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum) modulation technique divides dolphin whistle into several slots and modulates with up and down chirp signals. That causes the time-frequency characteristic difference between the original dolphin whistle and the camouflage performance is degraded. In this paper, we propose a delay based modulation scheme to eliminate distortions. The simulation results show that the bit error rate of the proposed method is better performance than that of the conventional CSS modulation method by about 3.5 dB to 8 dB. And the camouflage performance that evaluated through the cross correlation in the time-frequency domain is also better than that of the CSS modulation method.
This paper describes the design of a simulator for analyzing the accuracy of a correlative interferometer(CI) direction finder. CI direction finder is robust to noise, so it is often used in aircraft or ships where complex antenna installation is required, and the direction finding accuracy is very high. When the radio wave is incident at a specific azimuth angle, the phase difference calculated in a noiseless environment and the phase difference measured in a real environment with noise are fused to estimate the largest correlation coefficient as the azimuth angle of the radio wave. The simulator receives RF frequency, the number of antennas, the antenna coordinates, the transmission signal intensity, the bandwidth of the receiver, the gain and the payload effect, and calculates the direction finding accuracy of 0-360 degrees azimuth and 0-60 degree elevation with 0.5 degree. accuracy.
Background: Hypoxia causes oxidative stress and affects cardiovascular function and the programming of cardiovascular disease. Melatonin promotes antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase, and catalase. Objectives: This study aims to investigate the correlation between melatonin and hypoxia induction in cardiomyocytes differentiation. Methods: Mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs) were induced to myocardial differentiation. To demonstrate the influence of melatonin under hypoxia, mESC was pretreated with melatonin and then cultured in hypoxic condition. The cardiac beating ratio of the mESC-derived cardiomyocytes, mRNA and protein expression levels were investigated. Results: Under hypoxic condition, the mRNA expression of cardiac-lineage markers (Brachyury, Tbx20, and cTn1) and melatonin receptor (Mtnr1a) was reduced. The mRNA expression of cTn1 and the beating ratio of mESCs increased when melatonin was treated simultaneously with hypoxia, compared to when only exposed to hypoxia. Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α protein decreased with melatonin treatment under hypoxia, and Mtnr1a mRNA expression increased. When the cells were exposed to hypoxia with melatonin treatment, the protein expressions of phospho-extracellular signal-related kinase (p-ERK) and Bcl-2-associated X proteins (Bax) decreased, however, the levels of phospho-protein kinase B (p-Akt), phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) proteins, and antioxidant enzymes including Cu/Zn-SOD, Mn-SOD, and catalase were increased. Competitive melatonin receptor antagonist luzindole blocked the melatonin-induced effects. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that hypoxia inhibits cardiomyocytes differentiation and melatonin partially mitigates the adverse effect of hypoxia in myocardial differentiation by regulating apoptosis and oxidative stress through the p-AKT and PI3K pathway.
