An Implementation of Adaptive Noise Canceller using Instantaneous Signal to Noise Ratio with DSP Processor (순시신호 대 잡음비 알고리즘을 이용한 적응 잡음 제거기의 DSP 구현)

  • LMS(Least Mean Square) algorithm requires simple equation and is used widely because of the low complexity. If the convergence speed increase, LMS algorithm has a divergence in case of sharp environment changes. And if a stability increase, the convergence speed becomes slow. This algorithm based on a trade off between fast convergence and system stability. To improve this problem, VSSLMS (Variable Step Size LMS) algorithm was developed. The VSSLMS algorithm improved the convergence speed and performance as adjusting step size using error signal. In this paper, I-VSSLMS algorithm is proposed tor improve the performance of adaptive noise canceller in real-time environments. The proposed algorithm is applied to adaptive noise canceller using TMS320C6713 DSP board and we did simulation by real time. Then we compared performance of each algorithm and demonstrated that proposed algorithm has superior performance.

An Echo Canceller Robust to Noise and Residual Echo

  • When we talk with hands-free in a car or noisy lobby, the performance of the echo canceller degrade because background noise added to echo caused by the distance from mouth to microphone is relatively long. It gives a reason for necessity of noise-robust and high convergence speed adaptive algorithm. And if acoustic echo canceller operated not perfectly, residual signal going through the echo canceller to far-end speaker remains residual echo, which degrade quality of talk. To solve this problem, post-processing needed to remove residual echo ones more. In this paper, we propose a new acoustic echo canceller, which has noise robust and high convergence speed, linked with linear predictor as a post-processor. By computer simulation, it is confirmed that the proposed algorithm shows better performance from acoustic interference cancellation (AIC) viewpoint.

A Feedback and Noise Cancellation Algorithm of Hearing Aids Using Adaptive Beamforming Method (적응 빔형성기법을 이용한 보청기의 궤환 및 잡음제거 알고리즘)

  • This paper proposes a new adaptive algorithm to cancel the acoustic feedback and noise signals in the digital hearing aids. The proposed algorithm improves its convergence performances by canceling the speech signal from the residual signal using two microphones. The feedback canceller firstly cancels the feedback signal among the mic signal, and then it is reduced the noise using the beamforming method. To verify the performances of the proposed algorithm, the simulations were carried out for some cases. As the results of simulations, it was proved that the feedback canceller and the noise canceller advance about 14.43 dB for SFR, 10.19 dB for SNR respectively during speech, in the case of using the new algorithm.

  • In this paper, a new pre-processing algorithm is proposed to improve the performance of stereo acoustic echo canceller. The proposed algorithm has the improved performance by the estimation error reduction of filter coefficient using input signal which was reduced reverberation of room in the basis MINT (Mu1tip1e-input/output Inverse Theorem) filtering. For real stereo speech signal and real room impulse response the results of simulation, we showed that the proposed method could improved 3∼5 dB ERLE (Echo Return Loss Enhancement) regardless of NLMS (Normalized Least Mean Square) and Projection adaptive algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel equalization on-channel repeater (OCR) with a feedback interference canceller (FIC) to relay terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting signals in single frequency networks. The proposed OCR not only has high output power by cancelling the feedback signals caused by insufficient antenna isolation through the FIC, but also shows better output signal quality than the conventional OCR by removing multipath signals existing between the main transmitter and the OCR through an equalizer. In addition, computer simulations and laboratory test results demonstrate that the proposed OCR successfully cancels feedback signals and compensates channel distortions and provides a higher quality transmitting signal with higher output power than conventional OCRs.

An Active Noise Canceller with Blind Source Separation (Blind 신호원 분류를 갖는 능동 소음 제거기)

  • In this paper, we propose a new active noise control system that cancels the only noise signal from the mixture selectively. A blind source separation realized by a dynamic recurrent neural network is used as a preprocessor of the active noise control system and separates the desired signal and the noise signal. The active noise control system adaptively generates an anti-noise signal to remove the only noise signal separated by the blind source separation. Computer simulation results show that the proposed scheme is effective to construct a selective attention system.

Double Talk Detection before the Convergence of Echo Canceller (반향제거기의 수렴전 동시통화검출)

  • In this paper, we proposed a performance improvement method of the double talk detector which can operate before the echo canceller converges. Microphone input signal is filtered by the linear prediction filter and this filtered signal is used for detection. The coefficients of the linear prediction filter are given by the far-end talker signal. During single talk, filtered signal has low power since the characteristics of the echo signal is similar with those of the far-end talker signal. But, during double talk, the filtered signal does not have low power because the signal of different characteristics is included in the microphone signal. Double talk is detected by this difference. Simulations using real speech signals verified that the proposed method outperformed the conventional methods.

  • In order to improve readability, a leakage-signal canceller has been proposed in UHF-band RFID readers. The proposed canceller is composed of two blocks: an environment monitoring block for detection of Tx and RX power levels and a leakage cancellation block. The leakage canceller consists of directional-couplers, digital attenuators and phase shifters based on the feed-forward scheme. The leakage canceller is located between antenna and reader. An improved experimental characterization of the scheme is presented with results from the reader operating in the Korean RFID frequency band, conforming the validity of the approach with more than 29 dB of leakage cancellation.

Hands-free Speech Recognition based on Echo Canceller and MAP Estimation (에코제거기와 MAP 추정에 기초한 핸즈프리 음성 인식)

  • For some applications such as teleconference or telecommunication systems using a distant-talking hands-free microphone, the near-end speech signals to be transmitted is disturbed by an ambient noise and by an echo which is due to the coupling between the microphone and the loudspeaker. Furthermore, the environmental noise including channel distortion or additive noise is assumed to affect the original input speech. In the present paper, a new approach using echo canceller and maximum a posteriori(MAP) estimation is introduced to improve the accuracy of hands-free speech recognition. In this approach, it was shown that the proposed system was effective for hands-free speech recognition in ambient noise environment including echo. The experimental results also showed that the combination system between echo canceller and MAP environmental adaptation technique were well adapted to echo and noise environment.

  • In this paper, we proposed the single-channel adaptive noise canceller for the enhancement of heart sound (HS) in the auscultation signal. In case of either normal or emergency, a HS diagnosis is difficult due to the various signal source in the chest. Therefore, the HS enhancement is necessary. The conventional active noise canceller(ANC) has two channel, main signal and reference signal. For signal channel, the reference signal in ANC was generated by the proposed HS analyser and BS-Gate based on the characteristic of HS. This reference signal is suitable to the ANC condition. Experimental data were acquisited from MP36, SS30L in BIOPAC Inc., By the experiment, we confirmed that the proposed single-channel ANC was efficient for HS enhancement. And by the comparison with active linear enhancement, it was validate that the proposed ANC is not affected by the variation of a heartbeat.
