Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare plantar pressure distribution between affected side and unaffected side and to analyze plantar pressure distribution of affected side according to the extent of hemineglect in the adult hemiplegia. Methods : Twenty-five hemiplegia participated in this study. The analysis of plantar pressure distribution was conducted by the F-scan system, and the extent of hemineglect was evaluated with line-bisection test. While the subject walked about 10 meters in their comfortable speed the plantar pressure was evaluated and stored. Results : Total contact area, AP CoP trajectory, contact pressure of mid-foot of the affected side were significantly different from the unaffected side. Total contact area, AP CoP trajectory and contact pressure of mid-foot were smaller than those of unaffected side. In the comparison among the group according to the extent of hemineglect, AP CoP trajectory of subject who has severe hemineglect was significantly different from the patient that has no hemineglect and it was shorter than that of no hemineglect. Conclusion : The plantar pressure distribution was generally different between affected side and unaffected side and the hemineglect affected negatively the patient to move CoP forwardly while walking. Accordingly, it will help the clinician to understand the hemineglect which has an effect on abnormal walking and to intervent the hemiplegia who has a neglection to the affected side.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of upper extremity coordination exercise (UECE) during standing on the paretic side on balance, gait ability and activities of daily living (ADL) in persons with stroke. Design: A randomized controlled trial. Methods: A total of 27 patients with hemiplegic diagnosis after stroke were divided into two groups. Fourteen patients were in the study group and 13 patients were in the control group. The study group received conventional physical therapy and UECE during standing on the paretic side. The control group received conventional physical therapy and simple upper extremity exercise (SUEE). Subjects in both groups were given upper extremity training for 30 minutes per day, five times a week for 4 weeks. Initial evaluation was performed before treatment and reevaluated 4 weeks later to compare the changes of balance, gait ability and ADL (Korean version of modified Barthel index, K-MBI). Results: Both groups showed a significant effect for balance, gait ability and ADL (p<0.05). In the Independent t-test, between both groups showed a significant effect for balance and gait ability except ADL (p<0.05). Conclusions: In this paper, we investigated the changes in balance, walking, and ADL through UECE. We found significant changes in the study group and the control group. Results of the present study indicated that UECE during standing on the paretic side for 4 weeks had an effect on balance, gait ability and ADL (K-MBI) in persons with hemiplegia after stroke.
The detention reservoir is a hydraulic structure that constructs a levee on the inland of river and sets up side weir in a section of the levee, and this facility stores a part of the flood volume in case of a flood event over a certain scale. In order to optimize the operation of detention reservoir, it is necessary to review the linkage with existing facilities in the river. In this study, the effect of water level reduction and the flow distribution was analyzed according to the location of the side weir in the detention reservoir considering the run-of-the-river gate. Two radial gates were installed in the experimental channel, and the water level in channel and the overflow of weir were measured by moving the location of the side weir upstream from the gate. As a results of experiment, it was confirmed that the water level reduction is more remarkable as the location of the side weir was closer to the gate, and the effect of flow distribution is not greatly changed. When two or more side weirs were operated, it is confirmed that the sufficient storage space was secured and the water level reduction effect with the location of the side weir is not large. In addition, the water level reduction rate according to the location of the side weir was estimated by empirical formula and it is provided as basic data that can be used in the planning of the detention reservoir.
Objective : This study is performed to evaluate the clinical effect of acupuncture to acu-points in the normal side by means of amperage measured from chong points. Methods : Among the outpatients with ankle sprain who visited to Department of Acupuncture & Maxibustion, Jaseng oriental medicine hospital from 21, December 2000 to 10, February 2001, we selected 11 persons who showed normal finding in the X-ray. They were divided into two groups. One group was treated with acupuncture to acu-points in the painful side and the other was treated with acupuncture to acu-points in the normal side. Before and after acupuncture, we measured the amperage from their chong points. We selected 10 persons who we thought they were healthy as a control group. We also measured the amperage from their chong points. Results : Between the control and the ankle sprain group, there were significant differences of differences between the amperages of Rt. chong point and Lt. thong point of the same name. Between the group treated with acupuncture to acu-points in the painful side and the group treated with acupuncture to acu-points in the normal side, there were no significant differences of differences between the amperages of Rt. chong point and Lt. chong point of the same name. Conclusion : This result indicated that the acupuncture to acu-points in the painful side was not less effective than the acupuncture to acu-points in the normal side, and so the more study is needed continuously.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of cantilever length, load, and implant number on the stress distribution of implant supported fixed prosthesis. In the replica of an edentulous human mandible, four or five implants were placed and spaced evenly between the mental foramina and symmetrical gold alloy cast superstructures with cantilever were fabricated. Strain gauges were placed in buccal and lingual side of implants. 9, 15, 21kg of loads at varying cantilever lengths were applied to the occlusal surface of fixed prostheses. The strains were recorded from each gauge and principal stresses were calculated The results were as follows : 1. Increasing the length of the cantilever increased the stresses on the bone supporting implants. and the ratio of increase became high as increasing the load. 2. In the model with four implants, the highest compressive stress was measured on lingual side of the first implants nearest loading point and the highest tensile stress was measured on buccal side of the second implants. 3. In the model with five implants, the highest compressive stress was measured on lingual side of the first implants nearest loading point. And the highest tensile stress was measured on buccal side of the second implants, and lingual side of the third implants. 4. There was no significant change of the magnitude of stress on the most distal imp]ant of non cantilevered side as increasing the cantilever length or load. 5. In general, the superstructure supported by five implants reduced the stress and was less affected by cantilever length compared to the support provided by four implants.

The aim of this study was to investigate effects of reaching distance on movement time and trunk kinematics in hemiplegic patients. Eight hemiplegic patients participated in this study. The independent variables were side (sound side vs. affected side) and target distance (70%, 90%, 110%, and 130% of upper limb). The dependent variables were movement time measured by pressure switch and trunk kinematics measured by motion analysis device. Two-way analysis of variance with repeated measures was used with Bonferroni post-hoc test. (1) There were significant main effects in side and reaching distance for movement time (p=.01, p=.02). Post-hoc test revealed that there was a significant difference between 110% and 130% of reaching distance (p=.01). (2) There was a significant main effect in side and reaching distance for trunk flexion (p=.01, p=.00). Post-hoc test revealed that there were significant differences in all pair-wise reaching distance comparison. (3) There was a significant side by target distance interaction for trunk rotation (p=.04). There was a significant main effect in target distance (p=.00). Post-hoc test revealed that there were significant differences between 70% and 110%, 70% and 130%, 90% and 110%, 90% and 130% of target distance. It was known that trunk flexion is used more than trunk rotation during reaching task in hemiplegic patients from the findings of this study. It is also recommended that reaching training is performed with limiting trunk movement within 90% of target distance whereas reaching training is performed incorporating with trunk movement beyond 90% of target distance in patients with hemiplegia.

The interaction between hypersonic free stream and side jet flow at high altitudes is investigated by using the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method. In order to alleviate the difficulty associated with the large density difference between the free stream and the side jet flow and to simulate the two flows simultaneously, a weighting factor technique is applied. For validation, the corner flow over a pair of plates perpendicularly attached is calculated with and without a side jet, and the results are compared with experiment. For a more realistic configuration, the flow past a blunted cone cylinder shape is solved. The leeward or windward jet is injected into the free stream and the effect on the aerodynamic force and moment is observed at various flow angles. The lambda shock effect and the wake structure are studied in terms of the surface pressure differential. A higher interaction between the free stream and the side jet flow is observed when the side jet is injected in the windward direction.
The research is to identify important diffusion factors and their effects on green car diffusion process using system dynamics perspectives and a causal-loop analysis. Through a deep review on previous research, we have found the important factors of green car diffusion process. Price, driving range, network effect, recharge system, fuel cost had important facilitation on consumer attraction and green car diffusion. Based on the review, we have constructed a causal loop diagram explaining hybrid car diffusion process. We have found 3 important reinforcing loops in the causal loop diagram. Loop for learning & economies of scale(supply side), loop for network effect(consumer side), and loop for battery development(technology side) had most significant roles in the whole diffusion process. Through a deliberate analysis on the 3 causal loops, we have found meaningful results. First, there seems to exist a critical mass in the diffusion. Second, of the 3 loops, the battery technology had most significant role. Third, not consumer installed base but sales must be a standard to decide whether the critical mass is achieved or not. Based on these findings, several meaningful implications are suggested for the government and corporations related to the green car industries.

The present study investigated local heat/mass transfer characteristics on the surface of the rotating turbine blade with various incidence angles. The experiments are conducted in a low speed annular cascade with a single stage turbine. The blade has a flat tip with the mean tip clearance of 2.5% of the blade chord. A naphthalene sublimation method is used to measure detailed mass transfer coefficient on the blade. At design condition, the inlet Reynolds number is $Re_c=1.5{\times}10^5$ which results in the blade rotation speed of 255.8 rpm. Also, the effect of off-design condition is examined with various incidence angles between $-15^{\circ}$ and $+7{\circ}$. The results indicated that the incidence angle has significant effects on the blade surface heat transfer. In mid-span region, the laminar separation region on the pressure side is reduced and the laminar flow region on the suction side shrinks with increasing incidence angle. Near the tip, the effect of tip leakage flow increases in span wise and axial directions as the incidence angle decreases because the tip leakage flow is formed near the suction side surface. However, the effect of tip leakage flow is reduced with positive incidence angle.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the survival characteristics of the restaurant business by trade area type (major and side street). By the increase of the unemployment rate, the new foundation of selt-employment type is increasing. However, due to high competition and economic recession, the sustainability of new foundation is not high. Therefore, in this study, survival analysis was performed considering the individual and commercial characteristics focused on the ordinary restaurants. The major findings are as follow. First, the characteristics of parcel unit and adjacent area have a significant effect on the survival. This means the micro-scopic spatial characteristics should be considered for survival in the location choice. Second, the regional economic characteristics in trade area have a significant effect on survival. Furthermore, these characteristics are different by the trade area type. Third. the development characteristics have a different effect on survival by the building usage and trade area type. Finally, regional economic characteristics have a significant effect on survival. These results are expected to be used as basic data for commercial location selection and trade area analysis system in the private and public sectors.
