Advantages of anterior inferior alveolar nerve block with felypressin-propitocaine over conventional epinephrine-lidocaine: an efficacy and safety study

  • Background: Conventional anesthetic nerve block injections into the mandibular foramen risk causing nerve damage. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of the anterior technique (AT) of inferior alveolar nerve block using felypressin-propitocaine with a conventional nerve block technique (CT) using epinephrine and lidocaine for anesthesia via the mandibular foramen. Methods: Forty healthy university students with no recent dental work were recruited as subjects and assigned to two groups: right side CT or right side AT. Anesthesia was evaluated in terms of success rate, duration of action, and injection pain. These parameters were assessed at the first incisor, premolar, and molar, 60 min after injection. Chi-square and unpaired t-tests were used for statistical comparisons, with a P value of < 0.05 designating significance. Results: The two nerve block techniques generated comparable success rates for the right mandible, with rates of 65% (CT) and 60% (AT) at both the first molar and premolar, and rates of 60% (CT) and 50% (AT) at the lateral incisor. The duration of anesthesia using the CT was $233{\pm}37min$, which was approximately 40 min shorter than using the AT. This difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Injection pain using the AT was rated as milder compared with the CT. This difference was also statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The AT is no less successful than the CT for inducing anesthesia, and has the added benefits of a significantly longer duration of action and significantly less pain.

주파수 공간 블록 부호화된 단일 측대 파형 SC FDMA 전송 시스템 (Space-Frequency Block Coded Single Side Band SC-FDMA Transmission System)

  • 최근에 초고속 광대역 무선통신 전송 시스템의 수신 성능 개선을 위한 다양한 기술들이 제안되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 주파수 공간 블록 부호화된 단일 측대 파형 SC (Single Carrier) FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access) 전송 시스템을 제안한다. 본 논문에서 제안된 주파수 공간 블록 부호화된 단일 측대 파형 SC FDMA 전송 시스템에서는 PAM (Pulse Amplitude Modulation) 신호의 DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) 확산에 따라 생성되는 켤레 복소수 대칭을 활용하여 주파수 공간 블록 부호를 구현한다. 이를 통해 시스템 계산 복잡도를 크게 증가시키지 않으면서 단일 측대 파형 SC FDMA 전송 시스템의 성능 개선을 위한 송신 다이버시티 이득을 획득할 수 있다. 본 논문에서 제안된 주파수 공간 블록 부호화 단일 측대 파형 SC FDMA 시스템의 신호 대 잡음 비 성능이 단일 안테나 기반의 단일 측대 파형 SC FDMA 시스템보다 $10^{-2}$ 심볼 오류율 수준에서 약 4 dB 이상 개선되는 것을 실험을 통해 확인할 수 있다.

축소 마스킹이 적용된 경량 블록 암호 LEA-128에 대한 부채널 공격 (Side-Channel Attacks on LEA with reduced masked rounds)

  • 부채널 공격(Side Channel Attack)은 전력신호, 전자파, 소리 등과 같은 부가적인 채널의 정보를 이용하여 암호 알고리즘을 분석하는 방법이다. 이러한 공격에 대한 블록 암호의 대응 기법으로 마스킹 덧붙이기가 널리 사용된다. 하지만 마스킹의 적용은 암호 알고리즘의 부하가 크기 때문에 처음 또는 마지막 몇 라운드에만 마스킹을 덧붙이는 축소마스킹을 사용한다. 본 논문에서는 처음 1~6라운드 축소 마스킹이 적용된 경량 블록 암호 LEA에 대한 부채널 공격을 처음으로 제안한다. 제안하는 공격은 암호화 수행 과정에서 획득할 수 있는 중간 값에 대한 해밍 웨이트와 차분 특성을 이용하여 공격을 수행한다. 실험 결과에 의하면, 128 비트 마스터 키를 사용하는 LEA의 첫 번째 라운드 키 192 비트 중에 25 비트를 복구할 수 있다.

안면경련 환자에서 안면신경 차단의 추적조사 (Retrospective Study of Facial Nerve Block for Facial Spasm)

  • Hemifacial spasm commonly occurs in muscles about the eye, but may also involve or spread to the entire side of the face. One hundred and seventy eight patients with hemifacial spasm visited our Neuro-Pain clinic from January 1992 to April 1996. There were 121 female and 57 male patients, a 2.1:1 ratio respectively. Largest percentages of patients were in the 50 year old range. Among them, 96 patients were treated by facial nerve block or O'Brien block. In most cases, induced facial palsy disappeared within one or two months. Among the 96 patients who received nerve block, 46 patients received a second block within 5 to 24 months. The average interval from first and second nerve block was 11.5 months. After nerve block, all patients were free from spasm for 1 to 21 months. We conclude that facial nerve block is a satisfactory and reliable method for the treatment of facial spasm.

New Characterization Methods for Block Copolymers and their Phase Behaviors

  • In this feature article, we briefly review the new methods we have utilized recently in the investigation of morphology and phase behavior of block copolymers. We first describe the chromatographic fractionation method to purify block copolymers from their side products of mainly homopolymers or block copolymer precursors inadvertently terminated upon addition of the next monomer in the sequential anionic polymerization. The chromatographic method is extended to the fractionation of the individual block of diblock copolymers which can yield the diblock copolymer fractions of different composition and molecular weight, which also have narrower distributions in both molecular weight and composition. A more detailed phase diagram could be constructed from the set of block copolymer fractions without the need of acquiring many block copolymers each prepared by anionic polymerization. The fractions with narrow distribution in both molecular weight and composition exhibit better long-range ordering and sharper phase transition. Next, epitaxial relationships between two ordered structures in block copolymer thin film is discussed. We employed the direct visualization method, transmission electron microtomography(TEMT) to scrutinize the grain boundary structure.

비트 슬라이스 대합 S-박스에 의한 대칭 SPN 블록 암호에 대한 차분 오류 공격 (Differential Fault Analysis on Symmetric SPN Block Cipher with Bitslice Involution S-box)

  • 본 논문에서는 2011년에 제안된 비트 슬라이스 대합 S-박스에 의한 대칭 SPN 블록 암호에 대한 차분 오류 공격을 제안한다. 이 블록 암호는 AES를 기반으로 설계되었으며, 암호화와 복호화를 동일하게 구성하여 제한적 하드웨어 및 소프트웨어 환경에서 장점을 가지도록 설계되었으므로, 이 블록 암호는 부채널 분석에 대한 안전성을 가져야 한다. 그러나 본 논문에서 제안하는 공격 방법은 1개의 랜덤 바이트 오류 주입과 $2^8$번의 전수 조사를 통해 본 블록 암호의 128-비트 비밀키를 복구한다. 이 분석 결과는 본 블록 암호에 대한 첫 번째 결과이다.

  • The psoas compartment block has been advocated as the technique of choice for the surgical correction of the fractured neck of the femur. It is, moreover, widely used as a technique for postoperative analgesia. This block has not been discribed in the treatment of pain in cancer patients unitl 1988. A 54-year-old woman with advanced stomach cancer complained of pain in the right leg. Psoas compartment block using bupivacaine and methylprednisolone; was effective for pain control. Psoas compartment block is a useful procedure and can be of particular use in patients who have not responded to opiates or find the side effects intolerable.

편마비후 발생한 견수 증후군에 대한 성상신경절차단 (Stellate Ganglion Block for Shoulder Hand Syndrome following Hemiplegia)

  • Shoulder Hand Syndrome is used to describe painful disabilities of the upper extremity due to disturbances of sympathetic nerve supply. A 72 year old male developed hemiplegia on left side on the 5 days after open heart surgery of aortic valve replacement. Three months later, the patient complained of severe pain in the left upper extremity involving shoulder. The left hand showed swelling and flaccid paralysis. Thereafter the left stellate garglion block with 10 ml of l% lidocaine produced prompt pain relief. Thereafter the patient received 94 stellate ganglion block during 7 months which produced permanent remission of pain throughout a 1 year follow period. We recommand sympathetic block for of Shoulder Hand Syndrome following hemiplegia.

DCT와 블록 계층 분할 유한상태 벡터 양자화를 이용한 영상 부호화 (Image Coding Using DCT and Block Hierarchical Segmentation Finite-State Vector Quantization)

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm which segments hierarchically blocks of image using discrete cosine transform(DCT) and execute finite-state vector quantization (FSVQ) for each block. Using DCT coefficient feature, image is segmented hierarchically to large smooth block and small edge block, then the block hierarchy informations are transmitted. The codebooks are respectively constructed for each hierarchical blocks, the encoder transmits codeword index using FSVQ for reducing encoded bit with hierarchical segmentation. Compared with side match VQ(SMVQ) and hierarchical FSVQ(HFSVQ) algorithm, about Zelda and Boat image, the new algorithm shows better picture quality with 1.97dB and 2.85 dB difference as to SMVQ, 1.78dB and 1.85dB diffences as to HFSVQ respectively.

Differential Side Channel Analysis Attacks on FPGA Implementations of ARIA

  • In this paper, we first investigate the side channel analysis attack resistance of various FPGA hardware implementations of the ARIA block cipher. The analysis is performed on an FPGA test board dedicated to side channel attacks. Our results show that an unprotected implementation of ARIA allows one to recover the secret key with a low number of power or electromagnetic measurements. We also present a masking countermeasure and analyze its second-order side channel resistance by using various suitable preprocessing functions. Our experimental results clearly confirm that second-order differential side channel analysis attacks also remain a practical threat for masked hardware implementations of ARIA.
