Effects of the Electroplating Duration on the Mechanical Property of the Ni-Co-SiC Composite Coatings

  • In this work, Ni-Co composites incorporated with nano-sized SiC particles in the range of 45-55 nm are prepared by electroplating. The effects of plating duration on the chemical composition, surface morphology, crystalline structures and hardness have been studied. The maximum hardness of Ni-Co-SiC composite coating is approximately 633 Hv at plating duration of 1 h. The hardness is gradually decreased with increasing plating duration, which can be attributed to the growth of crystalline size and the agglomerates of SiC nano-particles. It is therefore explained that the grain refinement of Ni-Co matrix and stable dispersion of SiC particles play an important role for strengthening, which indicate Hall-Petch relation and Orowan model were dominant for hardening of Ni-Co-SiC composite coatings.

  • 본 논문에서는 탄화규소 섬유강화 탄화규소 복합재료에 내환경 코팅을 수행한 후, 열 기계적 특성평가에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 초기분말은 성형공정도중 흐름성을 좋게 하기 위해 분무건조법으로 구형의 분말을 제조하였다. 내환경 코팅재는 복합재료가 산화되거나 고온 수증기와 반응하는 것을 방지하기 위해 행하여 지는데, 본 연구에서는 액상침투법(LSI)으로 제조한 복합재에 실리콘으로 본드코팅을 하고 그 위에 대기플라즈마용사법으로 뮬라이트(mullite)와 무게비로 12% 이터븀 실리케이트(ytterbium silicate)가 혼합된 복합재를 코팅하였다. 대기플라즈마 코팅공정 시 성형변수로서 분무거리를 100, 120 그리고 140 mm로 변화시켰다. 그 후 $1100^{\circ}C$의 온도에서 100시간동안 유지하는 실험과 $1200^{\circ}C$의 온도에서 열충격을 가하는 싸이클을 3000회 반복하였다. 열내구성 시험동안 계면 박리는 일어나지 않았지만, 현저한 균열들이 코팅층 내에서 발견되었다. 균열밀도와 균열의 길이는 코팅도중의 분무거리에 의존하여 변화하였다. 열 내구성 시험 후, 압흔 시험을 통해 기계적 열화거동을 분석하였는데, 시험의 방식이나 조건들이 하중-변위 곡선의 거동에 영향을 주었다.

  • Most of high performance fabrics for the car racing protective clothing have been developed to have thermal resistance, flame retardant property, impact resistance and anti-frictional properties to protect the racer from the crucial accident. In this study, the meta-aramid fabric, which has inherent flame retardant, was coated with nanoparticles of SiC to enhance the impact resistance and anti-friction properties. Uniform coating of the nanoparticles onto the fabrics was obtained by using tape casting method. As the experimental parameters, size and content of the SiC nanoparticle were varied with the coating conditions of the fabric surface. The effects of the nanoparticle coating on the properties of meta-aramid fabric were examined with various instrumental analyses such as SEM, tensile strength and abrasion test.

흑연의 내마모성 증진을 위한 다층 코팅 (Multi-layer Coating for Improvement Anti-wear Property of Graphite)

  • To increase the anti-oxidation and anti-wear properties of graphite for the propellant-burning environment, SiC, Pt and Al2O3 multi-layer coatings were conducted succesisvely and the optimum condition was researched. The SiC layer was produced by pack cementation and SiC layer in thickness of 30 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ coating was produced after coating for 6 hours. Pt layer was coated by sputtering, and the Al2O3 layer was coated by reactive sputtering. the thickness of Pt layer and Al2O3 layer was less than one-tenth of that of SiC layer. The pack coated specimens and multi-layer coated specimens were made using above conditions and test-fired. The test result showed that the wear rate of SiC layer is approximately 1/10 compared to that of uncoated graphite.

Hydrogen Permeation of SiC-CeO2 Composite Membrane by Dip-coating Process

  • A SiC-$CeO_2$ composite membrane was successfully fabricated using an ally-hydridopolycarbosilane (AHPCS) binder and treated by dip-coating at 60 times with a $CeO_2$ sol solution. The dip-coated SiC membrane was calcined at 773 K and then sintered at 1173 K under an air atmosphere. The coated membrane was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and a BET surface analysis. The difference in permeation performance between $H_2$ and CO gases was measured by varying the temperature. The permeation flux of $H_2$ on the SiC membrane with layered $CeO_2$ was obtained as $8.45{\times}10^{-6}\;mol/m^2sPa$ at room temperature. The CO permeation flux was $2.64{\times}10^{-6}\;mol/m^2sPa$ at room temperature. The reaction enthalpy (${\Delta}H^{\circ}$) for the hydrogen permeation process was calculated as -7.82 J/mol by Arrhenius plots.

  • Silicon-based materials are one of the most promising anode active materials in lithium-ion battery. A carbon layer decorated on the surface of silicon particles efficiently suppresses the large volume expansion of silicon and improves electrical conductivity. Carbon coating through chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is one of the most effective strategies to synthesize carbon- coated silicon materials suitable for mass production. Herein, we synthesized carbon coated SiOx via pilot scale CVD reactor (P-SiOx@C) and carbon coated SiOx via industrial scale CVD reactor (I-SiOx@C) to identify physical characteristic changes according to the CVD capacity. Reduced size silicon domains and local non-uniform carbon coating layer were detected in I-SiOx@C due to non-uniform temperature distribution in the industrial scale CVD reactor with large capacity, resulting in increased surface area due to severe electrolyte consumption.

THE EFFECT OF SI-RICH LAYER COATING ON U-MO VS. AL INTERDIFFUSION

  • Si-rich-layer-coated U-7 wt%Mo plates were prepared in order to evaluate the diffusion barrier performance of the Si-rich layer in U-Mo vs. Al interdiffusion. Pure Si powder was used for coating the U-Mo plates by annealing at $900^{\circ}C$ for 1 h under vacuum of approximately 1 Pa. Si-rich layers containing more than 60 at% of Si were formed on U-7 wt%Mo plates. Diffusion couple tests were conducted in a muffle furnace at $560-600^{\circ}C$ under vacuum using Si-rich-layer-coated U-Mo plates and pure Al plates. Diffusion couple tests using uncoated U-Mo plates and Al-(0, 2 or 5 wt%)Si plates were also conducted for comparison. Si-rich-layer coatings were more effective in suppressing the interaction during diffusion couple tests between coated U-Mo plate and Al, when compared with U-Mo vs. Al-Si diffusion couples, since only small amounts of Al in the coating could be found after the diffusion couple tests. Si-rich-layer-coated U-7wt%Mo particles were also prepared using the same technique for U-7 wt%Mo plates to observe the microsturctures of the coated particles.

Mechanical Properties & Ablation Mechanism of SiC Coated Carbon/Carbon Composite by Pack-cementation Method

  • The pack-cementation process is the method which is formed SiC coating layer to improve weak oxidation properties of CFRCs (carbon fiber-reinforced carbons). This method develops the anti-oxidation coating layer having no dimensional changes and good wetting properties. In this study to improve the oxidative resistance of the prepared 4D CFRCs, the surface of CFRCs is coated by SiC using pack cementation method. The mechanical properties of SiC-coated 4D CFRCs are measured by the 3-point bending test, and their ablation properties are investigated by the arc torch plasma test. From the results, it is found that both mechanical and ablation properties of SiC-coated 4D CFRCs are much better than bare CFRCs.

금속표면에 비정질의 피복 (Dip Coating of Amorphous Materials on Metal Surface)

  • The properties of $Cr_2O_3-Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ composite oxide coatings on steel surface were investigated. The results obtained were as follows: The microhardness of oxide coating layer increased with increasing heat-treatment temperature and $Cr_2O_3$ content in coating layer. The hardness showed the highest value (850Hv) treated at 700$^{\circ}C$ for $SiO_2:Al_2O_3:Cr_2O_3$=1:1:4. Increasing heat-treatment temperature, corrosion current density became lower and coating layer became denser. The corrosion current density showed the lowest value $(6.5{\times}10^{-5}\;Acm^2)$ treated at 750$^{\circ}C\;for\;SiO_2:Al_2O_3:Cr_2O_3$=1:1:3. These results were explained by protective layer which was formed during heat-treatment. The bonding between matrix and coating layer is expected to be made mechanically and chemically by the inter diffusion of Ni and Fe. The composite oxide coating was formed by softening of the binder with increasing heat-treatment temperature. The strengthening of coating layer is to be resulted from the dispersion of major oxide particles.
