  • PURPOSE: This study compared the body composition according to the sport of short-distance and middle & long-distance athletes to identify the factors that affect the body composition. METHODS: Forty-eight athletes selected as youth national athletes in 2019 participated in the study. The study participants measured the length of the lower extremities, body composition, and anaerobic ability. An independent sample t-test was conducted to compare the body composition according to the event. In addition, the Pearson correlation was performed to identify the factors that influence the body composition. RESULTS: The leg length of the Short and Middle & long-distance athletes were similar (p = .584). On the other hand, there were differences in the body fat percentage (p = .001), lean percentage (p = .001), and BMI (p = .001). In addition, the body fat percentage was correlated with the lean body mass (r = .419) and BMI (r = .447). Furthermore, the lean body mass was correlated with the BMI (r = .849) and the peak power (r = .662) and mean power (r = .686) of the anaerobic capacity. Moreover, the BMI was correlated with the peak power (r = .490) and mean power (r = .543) of the anaerobic capacity. The peak power of the anaerobic ability was correlated with the mean power (r = .931). CONCLUSION: The body composition differed according to the sport. The body fat percentage correlated with the lean body mass and the BMI. The lean body mass correlated with the BMI, peak power of anaerobic ability, and mean power. The BMI correlated with the anaerobic capacity.

  • Small aircrafts, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), are used especially for military purposes. Because landing fields are limited in rural and hilly places, take-off or landing distances are very important. In order to achieve a short landing or take-off distance many parameters have to be considered, for instance the design of aircrafts. Hence this paper represents a better design to enlarge the use of fixed wing aircrafts. The document is based on a live and simulated experiments. The various components of designed aircraft are enhanced to create short take-off distance, greater lift and airflow without the need for proper runway area. Therefore, created aerodynamics of the remotely piloted aircraft made it possible to use fixed wing aircrafts in rural areas.

  • Technological feasibility of using recently-available femtosecond ultra short pulse lasers for advanced precision length metrology is investigated with emphasis on absolute distance measurements with $10{\mu}m$ ??resolution over extensive ranges. The idea of using femtosecond lasers for the measurement of absolute distances is based on the fact that a short pulse train is a mode-locked combination of discrete monochromatic light components spanning a wide spectral bandwidth. The synthetic wavelength is created from the repetition frequency, $f_r$ of the femtosecond laser and for more precise resolution, higher-order harmonics of the repetition frequency may be selected as the synthetic wavelength by using appropriate electronic filters.

  • Tracer experiments were performed 4 times in December 1992 on the relatively flat terrain and nearby building area adjacent to the Taedok Science Town in Korea. Each experiment was continued for relatively short period of 1 or 2 hours with intermittent release of SF6 up to 2.07g/s at 10m height. Movement of tracer plume was tracked by a continuous tracer analyzer installed on an air monitoring van. Simulation with INPUFF was carried out to analyze and predict experiments. Measured profiles of tracer plume were narrow and sharp while predicted profiles by INPUFF were broad and slowly varied. Tracer plumes were detected at a short distance of 0.5 to 2.2 km mainly due to intermittent release and high value of lower detectable limit. Various experimental conditions were tested by INPUFF simulation in order to find desirable conditions. Higher wind speed and less variable wind direction could yield longer distance of plume tracking only when the lower detectable limit was sufficiently low. Distance of plume tracking was long and did not much depend on the lower detectable limit in stable atmospheric conditions.

  • Generally, in the best-known Pulse-type type and Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave(FM/CW)-type RF range measurement systems, the nearest measurable distance between antenna of system and targets is limited to several tens of meters. Moreover, in case of high-speed targets it is more difficult to measure the distance precisely. In this paper we design our own RF(X-band) range(up to 15 meters) measurement system usi code correlation for high- speed targets. It 0 the correlation value between transmitting receiving PN (Pseudo -Noise) codes. So we determine the distance between antenna of s and targets using this correlation value. We fabricated it using MIC techniques and experimental results show that the proposed syste fully qualified for a short range measurement syste

  • This study is for assessing a reliability of diagnostic device through comparing diagnostic results to ACDB strength. The dielectric diagnosis using IRC (isothermal relaxation current) measurement was carried on service-aged cables. From this study, there was little correlation between dielectric diagnosis and ACBD strength in long distance cables. But the correlation between them showed in short distance below 200 m. Therefore, it is desirable to diagnose the URD cables in short distance.

  • This work intends to investigate the effects of shift characteristics on the propulsion performance of a manual wheelchair with an automatic transmission. A planetary gear train is employed to generate a two-stage shift automatically, based on the distance traveled from rest. Motion analysis has been performed for measuring kinematic properties of the arm and then the inverse dynamics has been applied for estimating joint forces/torques. Then, a parametric study has been performed to find a set of the shift ratios and the shift intervals for optimizing propulsion performance. Results show that the propulsion performance is closely related to the shift condition. It is found that a short shift interval is desirable for a short distance propulsion. However, an optimum shift interval for a long distance propulsion is inversely proportional to the shift ratio approximately. Consequently, the automatic transmission can greatly lower the joint loadings by the speed reduction, which eventually contribute to prevent joint injuries of wheelchair users.

  • This paper proposes a surface recognition algorithm which determines the types of contact surfaces by fusing the information collected by the multisensor system, consisted of the optical tactile and force/torque sensors. Since the image shape measured by the optical tactile sensor system, which is used for determining the surface type, varies depending on the forces provided at the measuring moment, the force information measured by the f/t sensor takes an important role. In this paper, an image contour is represented by the long and short axes and they are fuzzified individually by the membership function formulated by observing the variation of the lengths of the long and short axes depending on the provided force. The fuzzified values of the long and short axes are fused using the average Minkowski's distance. Compared to the case where only the contour information is used, the proposed algorithm has shown about 14% of enhancement in the recognition ratio. Especially, when imposing the optimal force determined by the experiments, the recognition ratio has been measured over 91%.

  • The possibility of micro/nano machining through electro-chemical process is discussed in this research. Electro-chemical dissolution region is localized within 1 ${\mu}m$ by applying ultra short pulses with tens of nanosecond duration. The effects of voltage, pulse duration, and pulse frequency on the localization distance are investigated. Localization distance can be manipulated by controlling the voltage and pulse duration, and various hole shapes are produced including stepped holes and taper free hole. High quality micro-hole with 8 ${\mu}m$ diameter with 20 ${\mu}m$ depth and micro-groove with 9 ${\mu}m$ width with 10 ${\mu}m$ depth are machined on 304 stainless steel.

  • An accurate digital distance relaying algorithm which is immune to reactance effect of the fault resistance and the load current for phase-to-phase short fault in 765kV untransposed transmission lines is proposed. The algorithm can estimate adaptively the impedance to a fault point independent of the fault resistance. To compensate the magnitude and phase of the apparent impedance, this algorithm uses the angle of an impedance deviation vector. The impedance correction algorithm for phase-to-phase short fault uses a voltage equation at fault point to compensate the fault current at fault point. A series of tests using EMTP output data in a 765kv untransposed transmission lines have proved the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
