  • This study examined the optimal mixture ratio of rice gruel supplemented with puffed rice by mixture design. The quality characteristics of rice gruel samples were examined according to mixture ratios at eleven experimental points. The high soluble solid content and viscosity of gruel samples were significantly dependent on rice (short grain) content instead of glutinous rice. The viscosity ranged from $2,891{\sim}9,153\;cP{\cdot}s$ and soluble solid content ranged from $8.23{\sim}10.13^{\circ}Brix$ at the eleven experimental points. The mixture with the highest solid content and viscosity, 12% rice gruel sample was $10.10{\sim}10.13^{\circ}Brix$ and $9,150{\sim}9,153\;cP{\cdot}s$. The L color of sample decreased with decreasing rice content, while "a" (redness) and "b" (yellowness) values slightly increased. In the sensory evaluation, samples with higher amount of puffed rice and glutinous rice scored higher for brown color, flavor and sweetness than high-content rice samples. The response surface and trace plot results showed that increasing of puffed rice increased the brown color, sweet taste and sticky aftertaste. From the results of the F-test, viscosity, "a" (redness) and "b" (yellowness) values fit a quadratic model with significant probabilities within 0.05%. The optimum predicted formulations of rice gruel containing puffed rice were 1.69% of puffed rice, 0.47% of glutinous rice and 9.84% of rice, respectively.

  • To obtain fine dispersion of Ag particles in $YBa_2$$Cu_3$$O_{7-y}$ (123) superconductors, 123 samples were made by pyrophoric synthetic method using malic acid and the subsequent solid- state reaction. As the pyrophoric synthetic powder was used as a precursor material, fine 123 powder of submicron size was produced in a short reaction time. The added $Ag_2$O was converted to metallic Ag during Pyrophoric reaction and it accelerated both the formation of 123 phase and the grain growth via the enhanced mass transfer. The Ag particles of the sample sintered using the pyrephoric synthetic powder were more finely dispersed in the 123 matrix, compared to those of the sample sintered using the mechanically mixed powder, attributing to the improvement of the superconducting properties.

  • Graphene has been synthesized on 100- and 300-nm-thick Ni/$SiO_2$/Si substrates with $CH_4$ gas (1 SCCM) diluted in mixed gases of 10% $H_2$ and 90% Ar (99 SCCM) at $900^{\circ}C$ by using inductively-coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition (ICP-CVD). The film morphology of 100-nm-thick Ni changed to islands on $SiO_2$/Si substrate after heat treatment at $900^{\circ}C$ for 2 min because of grain growth, whereas 300-nm-thick Ni still maintained a film morphology. Interestingly, suspended graphene was formed among Ni islands on 100-nm-thick Ni/$SiO_2$/Si substrate for the very short growth of 1 sec. In addition, the size of the graphene domains was much larger than that of Ni grains of 300-nm-thick Ni/$SiO_2$/Si substrate. These results suggest that graphene growth is strongly governed by the direct formation of graphene on the Ni surface due to reactive carbon radicals highly activated by ICP, rather than to well-known carbon precipitation from carbon-containing Ni. The D peak intensity of the Raman spectrum of graphene on 300-nm-thick Ni/$SiO_2$/Si was negligible, suggesting that high-quality graphene was formed. The 2D to G peak intensity ratio and the full-width at half maximum of the 2D peak were approximately 2.6 and $47cm^{-1}$, respectively. The several-layer graphene showed a low sheet resistance value of $718{\Omega}/sq$ and a high light transmittance of 87% at 550 nm.

  • The change of thermal expansion and mechanical behaviors by cold working has been investigated in Fe-29%Ni-17%Co low thermal expansion Kovar alloy. Fe-29%Ni-17%Co alloy was cold rolled gradually and prepared to plates having reduction ratio of 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80%. Annealing effect on the properties was also studied. Thermal expansion was measured from $25^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$ with a heating rate of $5^{\circ}C$/min by using vacuum differential dilatometer. It was found that thermal expansion coefficient ($\alpha_{30{\sim}400}$) slightly decreased (reduction ration of 20%) and then remarkably increased (above reduction ration of 40%) with increasing reduction ratio of cold rolling. Thermal expansion coefficient ($\alpha_{30{\sim}400}$) was sharply decreased after annealing heat-treatment. Yield and tensile strengths were continuously increased and elongation was decreased by cold roiling. Microstructural observation and X-ray diffraction analysis results showed that the $\alpha$ phase significantly increased as the reduction ratio increased. The slight decrease of thermal expansion coefficient bellow reduction ration of 20% could be explained by the destroying short-range ordering and the decreasing of grain size. The significant increase of thermal expansion coefficient with cold rolling mainly attributed to the appearance of $\alpha$ phase. The correlation between the microstructural cause and invar phenomena for the low thermal expansion behavior was also discussed.

  • Recently, high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HIPIMS) has attracted considerable attentions due to its high potential for industrial applications. By pulsing the sputtering target with high power density and short duration pulses, a high plasma density and high ionization of the sputtered species can be obtained. HIPIMS has exhibited several merits such as increased coating density, good adhesion, microparticle-free and smooth surface, which make the HIPIMS technique desirable for synthesizing hard coatings. However, hard coatings present intrinsic defects (columnar structures, pinholes, pores, discontinuities) which can affect the corrosion behavior, especially when substrates are active alloys like steel or in a wear-corrosion process. Atomic layer deposition (ALD), a CVD derived method with a broad spectrum of applications, has shown great potential for corrosion protection of high-precision metallic parts or systems. In ALD deposition, the growth proceeds through cyclic repetition of self-limiting surface reactions, which leads to the thin films possess high quality, low defect density, uniformity, low-temperature processing and exquisite thickness control. These merits make ALD an ideal candidate for the fabrication of excellent oxide barrier layer which can block the pinhole and other defects left in the coating structure to improve the corrosion protection of hard coatings. In this work, CrN/Al2O3/CrN multilayered coatings were synthesized by a hybrid process of HIPIMS and ALD techniques, aiming to improve the CrN hard coating properties. The influence of the Al2O3 interlayer addition, the thickness and intercalation position of the Al2O3 layer in the coatings on the microstructure, surface roughness, mechanical properties and corrosion behaviors were investigated. The results indicated that the dense Al2O3 interlayer addition by ALD lead to a significant decrease of the average grain size and surface roughness and greatly improved the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the CrN coatings. The thickness increase of the Al2O3 layer and intercalation position change to near the coating surface resulted in improved mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. The mechanism can be explained by that the dense Al2O3 interlayer acted as an excellent barrier for dislocation motion and diffusion of the corrosive substance.

  • The quality of dehydrated instant rice produced by a few selected processing methods with short grain milled rice was evaluated. Instant rice produced by process 2 had high rehydration rate, and those by processes 1 and 2 revealed light brown color with less lightness. Instant rice produced by processes 1 and 2 with ammonium carbonate treatment had more uniform porous microstructure, as shown by SEM micrographes, and microstructural difference was noticed between instant rice prepared with government rice and Akibari. Instant rice produced by processes 1 and 2 had less sensory color score, and those by processes 2 and 4 had higher sensory cohesiveness. Overall quality of instant rice produced by process 2 was better, except color.

  • After the final closure of sea dyke, seepage behaviour of embankment is highly changed by variation of water head different between tide wave and controlled water level at fresh lake. Especially, the seepage behaviour of bottom protection layer of final closure section is more important factor for structural and functional stability of sea dyke, because of the bottom protection layer of final closure section is penetrated sea side to fresh lake. Even though bottom protection layer was filled with dredged fine sand, it has a high permeability. In this paper, mainly described about the seepage velocity and borehole image of bottom protection layer filled with dredged sand after final closure. Various in-situ tests such as BIPS (Borehole Image Processing System) and ABI (Acoustic Borehole Imager) survey, wave velocity measuring, and color tracer survey were conducted to evaluate the seepage behavior of bottom protection layer. Based on the in-situ tests, the bottom protection layer of final closure section was almost filled with dredged sand which is slightly coarse grain sand and there have sea water flow by water head different between tide wave and controlled water level at fresh lake. Also, comply with tracer survey results, the sea water flow path was not exist or generated in the bottom protection layer. However, because of this result not only short term survey but also just one test borehole survey results, additional long term and other borehole tests are needed.

  • This experiment was conducted to find out the ., effects of various fertilizer level and Drill-seeding on the growth and yield of the two newly bred naked-barley varieties, Kwangsung and $Bangsa^6$ the former that was bred for the first time in Korea in 1972, is resistant to winter and productive, and the latter that was also bred in Korea by radioisotope treatment in 1974, is of short-stem, early maturing and productive. The grain yield in Drill-seeding was 8 percent higher than that in Conventional seeding. $Bangsa^6$ was more resistant to lodging and more adaptable to the amounts of the increased-fertilizer level than Kwangsung. In Drill-seeding, $Bangsa^6$ is thought to be more suitable naked-barley variety than Kwangsung.

  • The relationship between mean air temperature after heading and starch characteristics of colored rice grains was investigated using three colored rice cultivars. Pasting temperature within each rice cultivar with different harvest times differed. The pasting temperatures of two rice cultivars, Hongjinju and Joseongheugchal, reached the highest at 40 days after heading and decreased during the late harvest time. Distribution of amylopectin in the Hongjinju rice cultivar at the earlier harvest time contained a greater number of very short chains with the degree of polymerization (DP) between 6 and 12 and fewer chains with a DP from 13 to 24 than that of the later harvest time. However, there was little difference in the distribution of the longer chains of $25{\leq}DP{\geq}36$ and $37{\leq}DP$ for latter harvest times compared to that of the earlier ones. It was suggested that the structure of amylopectin affected the varietal differences in patterns of chain length of amylopectin during grain filling. In addition, the control of ripening was different from that causing the pigment effects in the fine structure of amylopectin in the three colored rice cultivars. Larger starch granules were observed in the Joseongheugchal rice cultivar and smaller granules occurred in the Hongjinju rice cultivar. The present study revealed that later harvest times led to a clear increase in the mean granule size of starch in the three colored rice cultivars.

  • Variability in Young Stellar Objects (YSOs) can be caused by time-dependent accretion rates, geometric changes in the circumstellar disks, the stochastic hydromagnetic interactions between stellar surfaces and inner disk edges, reconnections within the stellar magnetosphere, and hot/cold spots on stellar surfaces. We uncover ~1400 variables from a sample of ~5300 YSOs in nearby low-mass star-forming regions using mid-IR light curves obtained from the 5.5-years NEOWISE All Sky Survey. The mid-IR variability traces a wide range of dynamical, physical, and geometrical phenomenon. We classify six types of YSO variability based on their light curves: secular variability (Linear, Curved, Periodic) and stochastic variability (Burst, Drop, Irregular). YSOs in earlier evolutionary stages have higher fractions of variables at all types and higher amplitudes for the variability. Along with brightness variability, we also find a diverse range of secular color variations, which can be attributed to a competitive interplay between the variable accretion luminosity of the central source and the variable extinction by material associated with the accretion process. We compare the variability of known FUors/EXors and VeLLOs/LLSs, which represent two extreme ends (burst versus quiescent) of the episodic accretion process; FUors/EXors have a higher fraction of variables (65%) than VeLLOs/LLSs (41%). Short-term (few day) and long-term (decades) variability, as well as possible AGB contamination in the YSO catalogues, are also discussed.molecules become more complex by surface chemistry induced directly by high energy photons or by the thermal energy diffused over heated grain surface. Therefore, the ice composition is an
