  • The Co-Gen System which maximize energy efficiency was installed at the industrial plants at the initial stage. However Small Scale Co-Gen System was expanded even to the general end-users such as housing and building owing to ESCO business recently. For this SSC, inter-connected operation to the utility is desirable due to voltage and frequency fluctuation following to unbalance between power output and load. Then voltage unbalance with utility system, frequency, increase of short circuit capacity, reclosing, and ALTS etc. should be fully considered for the inter-connected operation. Voltage variation, protection coordination, Co-Generators single running, and short circuit capacity should also be solved. For Con-Gen users, the several protection relays are recommended to install at the user's main incoming panel by the guide lines and/or instructions of the interconnected utility Then user's main CB(Circuit Breaker) have the chance to be tripped by some of this recommended relays and users have to undergo the unexpected blackout. So the circuit breaker trip schemes targeted to trip with these protection relays are reconsidered and the study result is hereunder proposed.

  • In an electrical network, electrical power are transmitted by a various of protection, isolation and control electric circuit devices. This thesis deals with the protection function between circuit-breakers. The protective coordination concerns the behaviour of two devices placed in series in an electrical network, with a short-circuit downstream circuit-breaker. It has two basic principles: First, discrimination which is an increasing requirement of low voltage electrical distribution systems. Second, which is less well known: cascading, which consists of installing a device, whose breaking capacity is less than the three-phase short-circuit current at its terminals and helped by main circuit-breaker. The important advantage of cascading is to be able to install at a branch circuit-breaker of a lesser performance without endangering the safety of the installation for more economical usage. To determine and guarantee co-ordination between two circuit breakers, it is necessary to carry out a theoretical approach, first, and then confirm the results by means of standard tests. This is illustrated in appendix A of IEC 947-2.

고온 및 단락전류에 따른 리튬배터리의 폭발 및 화재 위험성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Explosion and Fire Risks of Lithium Batteries Due to High Temperature and Short Circuit Current)

  • 본 논문은 리튬배터리의 고온 및 단락전류에 따른 폭발 및 화재 위험성을 분석하기 위한 연구이다. 이에 대표적인 리튬배터리 종류인 리튬폴리머배터리 및 리튬이온배터리를 실험시료로 선정하였다. 고온에 따른 폭발위험성 측정결과 리튬폴리머배터리의 경우 평균 $170^{\circ}C$, 리튬이온배터리의 경우 평균 $187^{\circ}C$에서 폭발이 일어났다. 단락전류에 따른 온도상승측정결과 보호회로가 정상작동 할 경우 과전류를 제한하여 온도상승이 거의 없었지만, 보호회로가 고장 났을 경우 리튬폴리머배터리의 경우 평균 $115.7^{\circ}C$ 및 리튬이온배터리 경우 평균 $80.5^{\circ}C$까지 상승하여 화재 및 화상 위험성이 높게 나타나는 것으로 측정되었다.

Fuse Protection of IGBT Modules against Explosions

  • The demand for protection of power electronic application has during the last couple of vears increased regarding the high-power IGBT modules. Even with an active protection, a high power IGBT still has a risk of exhibiting a violent rupture in the case of a fault if IGBT Fuses do not protect it. By introducing fuses into the circuit this will increase the circuit inductance and slight inductance over-voltage during the turn-off of the diode and the IGBT. It is therefore vital when using fuses that the added inductance is kept at a minimum. This paper discuss three issues regarding the IGBT Fuse protection of adding inductance of existing High-speed and new Typower Fuse protection. First, the problem of adding inductance of exiting High-speed and new Typower Fuse DC-link circuit is treated, second a short discussion of protection of the IGBT module is done, and finally, the impect of the high frwquency loading on the currying capability of the fuses is presented.

  • 본 논문에서는 2${\mu}m$ 고전압 CMOS 공정을 사용한 보호 회로를 포함한 전력 ,MOSFET 구동기를 설계하였다. 제어 회로의 안정한 동작을 위하여 전원 관리 회로를 설계하였으며 전원 관리 회로의 전압 레귤레이터의 보호를 위하여 전압 검출 방식의 단락 보호 회로를 제안하였다. 전압 검출 방식(Voltage-Detection Short Circuit Protection; VDSCP)은 직렬 저항에 의한 전압 강하가 없고, 출력단 단락 상태에서 전압원의 전류를 출력단에 흐르지 못하도록 하는 특성이 있다. 전력 MOSFET를 보호하기 위하여 부하 단락 보호회로, 게이트 전압 제한 회로, 과전압 보호 회로를 설계하였으며, 50V의 항목 전압을 닺는 공정을 이용하여 전력 MOSFET 구동기를 위한 2${\mu}m$ 고전압 CMOS 공정을 개발하였다. 전력 MOSFET이 소비하는 전력 이외에 구동기가 소비하는 전력은 전력 MOSFET 구동 상태에 따라 20 ~ 100mW의 범위에 있는 것으로 확인하였다. 주문형으로 제작된 전력 MOSFET 구동기의 active area의 크기는 $3.5 {\times}2..8mm^2$이다.

직렬 능동 보상기의 과전류 보호방법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Over-Current Protection Method of A Series Active Compensator)

  • A protection scheme for series active compensator is presented and analyzed in this paper. The proposed series active compensator operated as a high impedance K($\Omega$) to the fundamentals when short-circuit faults occur in the power distribution system, and two control strategies are proposed in this paper The first is the method by detecting the fundamental source current through the p-q theory, the second is the method by detecting the fundamental component of load current in Synchronous Reference Frame(SRF). When the short-circuit faults occur in the power distribution system, the proposed scheme can protect the series active compensator without additional protection circuits. The validity of the Proposed Protection scheme was investigated through experimental results.

  • Micro-grid is connected to the main power grid through a static switch. One of the critical issues in micro-grids is protection which must disconnect the micro-grid from the network in short-circuit contingencies. Protective methods of micro-grid mainly follow the model of distribution system protection. This protection scheme suffers from improper operation due to the presence of single-phase loads, imbalance of three-phase loads and occurrence of power swings in micro-grid. In this paper, a new method which prevents from improper performance of static micro-grid protection is proposed. This method works based on artificial neural network (ANN) and able to differentiate short circuit from power swings by measuring impedance and the rate of impedance variations in PCC bus. This new technique provides a protective system with higher reliability.

The proposed UPQC has the series active power filter operated as a high impedance k($\Omega$) to the fundamentals when short-circuit faults occur in the power distribution system, and three control strategies are proposed in this paper.   • 본 논문에서는 전자식 안정기의 출력이 개방 또는 단락되었을 경우에 대한 보호 회로를 설계하였다. 전자식 안정기의 출력이 개방되었을 경우 일정한 주기의 고전압이 발생하여 스위치 소자에 전압 스트레스를 가하게 된다. 또한 출력이 단락되었을 경우 과전류가 흐르게 되어 안정기 발열 및 반도체 소자의 수명 감소 등 문제가 발생하게 된다. 이를 해결하고자 TTL 소자 및 수동 소자로 구성된 보호 회로를 제안하였으며 제안된 보호 회로는 저단가 구현 및 높은 신뢰성의 장점이 있다. 제안된 보호 회로를 실제 안정기에 연결하여 상황별 실험을 통하여 유용함을 증명하였다.
