The Development of a Model to Predict Beach Evolution (해빈변형 예측 모델의 개발)

  • A model is developed to predict the long-term beach evolution near the long groin considering the combined effects of variation of sea level, wave refraction and diffraction. A numerical solution for this problem is solved by considering the equation as a system subject to the boundary condition for longshore transport rate. One possible method is the centered Crank-Nicolson type implicit scheme. The results which ard obtained by applying this numerical model at Songdo beach, Pohang are as follows. Owing to the approximation used in the calculation of the refraction and diffraction coefficients, the discrepancy between the predicted and actual shoreline occurs to the interior of long groin. However, the shape of shoreline at the exterier of long groins agrees well.

Investigation of Atmospheric Diffusibility Using SODAR (SODAR를 이용한 대기 확산능의 조사)

  • Various meleorologlcal dada obtained by SODAR system in shoreline area surrounding Boryung power plant have been analysed to investigate atmospheric diffusibility. Important conclusion may be summarized as follows; (i) Stability classification scheme based on co (standard deviation of wind direction in degree for averaging time of 1 hour) appears to evaluate certain atmospheric velocity and : indicate horizontal mean wind speed. Thus different scheme for stability classification seems to be preferable in order to appropriately estimate lateral and vertical dispersion coefficients cy and cz, respectively. (ii) As a result of comparisons between 3 available schemes for estimating of mixing height, best one turned out to be the double height scheme where height corresponds to maximum cw.

  • RC structure which is located at shoreline has more serious damages compared with inland structure, because it is directly exposed to chlorine ion which is called incoming salt. In the transmission of incoming salt, differences in transmitted volume of incoming salts could occur according to the influences of local shoreline topography which includes surrounding weather conditions, types of building placements, obstacles of wind tunnel etc. And therefore, for the application of boundary conditions for durable offshore structure design against the salt attack, comparative analysis through wind tunnel test and fluid value simulation are executed in order to investigate the moving and adhesion process of incoming salt to offshore structure.

  • The intent of this study is to suppose the time of engraving of Bangudae-rockgraving-picture and the change of the ancient soci-ety related to the Postglacial transgression and regression in the Ulsan Bay. Main results can be summed up as follows; 1. It is supposed that the shoreline in the maximum Postglacial transgression of the Ulsan bay has arrived to Gulhwa-Ri about 14km upstream from the present Taehwa River mouth. 2,.This transgression has occurred about 6,000-5,000 years ago. The prehistoric men around the Bangudae had hunted the whale near the inner bay From this time the people had begun to engrave pictures on the Rock of Bangudae for the ceremony and instruction of the whale hunting,. 3. Since then the shoreline had regressed and the whale hunting area had moved to distant area from the residence and the number of the captured whales had diminished. The whale hunting society had been transformed to the overland animals on the Bangudae-rockgraving- pictures had gradually increased.

Moving boundary condition for simulation of inundation (범람 모의를 위한 이동경계조건)

  • A shoreline, which has no the water depth, moves continuously as waves rise up and recede. Therefore, a special boundary treatment is required to track properly the movements of the shoreline in numerical modeling of the behavior of tsunamis or tides near a coastal zone. In this study, convective terms in nonlinear shallow-water equations are discretized explicitly by using a second-order upwind scheme to describe a moving shoreline more accurately. An oscillatory flow motion in a circular paraboloidal basin has been employed to validate the performance of the developed numerical model. Computed results of instantaneous free surface displacements are compared with those of analytical solutions and existing numerical solutions. The run-up heights in the vicinity of a circular island have also been calculated and obtained numerical results have been shown against available laboratory measurements. A good agreement has been observed.
