A probabilistic structural integrity assessment is performed for a reactor pressure vessel under PTS(Pressurized Thermal Shock). A semi-elliptical finite axial crack is assumed to he in the beltline region(either base metal or weld meta)1 of the reactor vessel inside surface. The selected random variables are initial crack depth, neutron fluence on the vessel inside surface, copper, nickel, and phosphorus content of the vessel material, and RT/sub NDT/. The probabilities of crack initiation or vessel failure where the crack is propagated through vessel wall are calculated. The probabilities obtained with random crack size are compared to these obtained with deterministic us. Since the failure function cannot to explicitly by selected by selected random variables, Monte Carlo Simulation is applied to perform probabilistic analysis The influence of the amount of neutron fluence is also examined to assess the structural reliability for vessel life time.

In the field of nuclear reactor safety study, common cause failures (CCFs) became significant contributors to system failure probability and core damage frequency in most Probabilistic risk assessments. However, it is hard to estimate the reliability of such a system, because of the dependency of components caused by CCFs. In order to analyze the system, we propose an analytic method that can find the parameters with lack of raw data. This study adopts the shock model in which the failure probability increases as the shock is cumulated. We use two-step Expectation and Maximization (EM) algorithm to find the unknown parameters. In order to verify the analysis result, we perform the simulation under same environment. This approach might be helpful to build the defensive strategy for the CCFs.

Unlike industrial manipulators, the manipulators mounted on the service robots are interacting with humans in various aspects. Therefore, safety has been the important design issue. Many compliant robot arm designs have been introduced for safety. It is known that passive compliance method has faster response and higher reliability than active ones. In this paper, a new safe mechanism based on passive compliance has been proposed. Passive mechanical elements, specifically transmission angle of the 4-bar linkage, springs and shock absorbing modules are incorporated into this safe mechanism. This mechanism works only when the robot arm exerts contact force much more than the human pain tolerance. Validity of the safe mechanism is verified by simulations and experiments. In this research, it is shown that the manipulator using this mechanism provides higher performance and safety than those using other passive compliance mechanisms.
An engine cradle is a quite important structural assembly for supporting the engine, suspension and steering parts of vehicle and absorbing the vibrations during the drive and the shock in the car crash. Recently, the engine cradle having structural stiffness enough to support the surrounding parts and absorbing the shock of collision has been widely used. The hydroforming technology may cause many advantages to automotive applications in terms of better structural integrity of parts, reduction of production cost, weight reduction, material saving, reduction in the number of joining processes and improvement of reliability. We focus on increasing the durability and the dynamic performance of engine cradle. For realizing this objective, several optimization design techniques such as shape, size, and topology optimization are performed. This optimization scheme based on the sensitivity can provide distinguished performance improvement in using hydroforming.

High voltage ceramic capacitors are widely applied in power electronic circuits, such as filters, snubbers, and resonant circuits, due to their excellent features of high voltage endurance and low aging. This paper presents a result of failure analysis and reliability evaluation for high voltage ceramic capacitors. The failure nodes and failure mechanisms were identified in order to understand the failure physics in a component. The causes of failure mechanisms for zero resistance phenomena under withstanding voltage test in high voltage ceramic capacitors molded by epoxy resin were studied by establishing an effective closed-loop failure analysis. Also, the condition for dielectric breakdown was investigated. Particular emphasis was placed on breakdown phenomena at the ceramic-epoxy interface. The validity of the results in this study was confirmed by the results of accelerated testing. Thermal shock test as well as pressure cooker test for high voltage ceramic capacitor mounted on a magnetron were implemented. Delamination between ceramic and epoxy, which, might cause electrical short in underlying circuitry, can occur during curing or thermal cycling. The results can be conveniently used to quickly identify defective lots, determine mean time to failure (MTTF) of each lot at the level of Inspection, and detect major changes in the vendors processes.

As part of the green growth, The Green Car has attracted wide attention. Types of the Green Car are Electric Vehicle, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, Hybrid Electric Vehicle, Fuel Cell Vehicle and Clean Diesel Vehicle. Of these, The electric vehicle is equipped with the BDU(Battery Disconnecting Unit). BDU is supplying stable battery power and blocking it to protect electrical system of the electric vehicle. The BDU consists of electric components such as current sensor, fuse and pre-charge resistor. These must pass Voltage withstand test, Salt mist test, Thermal shock test, Vibration test and Short-circuit test commonly to verify reliability of the electric components. In addition, The current sensor should be verified whether normal operation. The breaking capacity of fuse should be verified. The durability of pre-charge resistor should be verified by supplying battery power and blocking it repeatedly. The reliability of BDU as well as the electric vehicle is secured by verifying the reliability of electric components. In addition, It will contribute to the acceleration and promotion of Green Car Technology.

Pb-free wave soldering process of AC Adapter was implemented by six sigma method using Sn-Cu-Ni type solder. The solder joint appearance, microstructural change, a lift-off phenomenon and reliability were evaluated through thermal shuck test. $(Cu,Ni)_6/Sn_5$-type intermetallic compound of which thickness is about 5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ was found at solder joint between Sn-Cu-Ni solder and copper land. After applying the thermal shock test of as-soldered product up to 750 cycles, no crack was fecund at the solder joint. The newly developed product was superior to conventional one in terms of productivity and reliability.

In this paper, we describe the analysis of inkjet-printed silver (Ag) patterns on epoxy-coated substrates according to several reliability evaluation test method guidelines for conventional printed circuit boards (PCB). To prepare patterns for the reliability analysis, various regular test patterns were created by Ag inkjet printing on flame retardant 4 (FR4) and polyimide (PI) substrates coated with epoxy for each test method. We coated the substrates with an epoxy primer layer to control the surface energy during printing of the patterns. The contact angle of the ink to the coated epoxy primer was $69^{\circ}$, and its surface energy was 18.6 $mJ/m^2$. Also, the substrate temperature was set at $70^{\circ}C$. We were able to obtain continuous line patterns by inkjet printing with a droplet spacing of $60{\mu}m$. The reliability evaluation tests included the dielectric withstanding voltage, adhesive strength, thermal shock, pressure cooker, bending, uniformity of line-width and spacing, and high-frequency transmission loss tests.

In this study, an optical fiber assembly directly coupled with a laser diode or a photo diode is designed to confirm high reliable optical coupling efficiency of optical transmitter(Tx) and receiver(Rx). The optical fiber assembly is fabricated by soldering an optical fiber and a Kovar ferrule using a glass solder after inserting an optical fiber through a Kovar ferrule. The Kovar which has good welding characteristics is applied to introduce laser welding technique. The glass solder has excellent thermal characteristics such as thermal shift delamination compared with PbSn, AuSn solder previously used usually. Furthermore, the glass solder doesn't need fiber metalization and this enables low cost fabrication. However, the glass soldering is high temperature process over 35$0^{\circ}C$ and the convex shape after solidification due to surface tension causes the stress concentration on optical fiber. The stress concentration on the optical fiber increases the optical insertion loss and possibility of crack formation. The shape of glass solder was designed referring to 2-D Axi-symmetric FEM simulation. To test the mechanical reliability, mechanical vibration test and shock test were done according to Telcorida GR-468-Core protocol. After each test, the optical loss of the stress distributed fiber assembly didn't exceed 0.5 dB, which passes the test.
