A Study on the Application of Resource Leveling Heuristic for Ship Erection Scheduling (부하평준화 휴리스틱을 이용한 선박 탑재 일정계획 편성 연구)

  • In this paper, resource leveling heuristics are developed for ship erection scheduling. The heuristics, which enable scheduling with limited resources, are composed of the gradual resource limit decrease anti the resource allocation. At first, earliest start(ES) schedule is derived by PERT to get initial resource limit. And then, the heuristics lower the resource limits by a given increment and derive a new schedule from day-by-day resource allocation procedure. The procedure is repeated until the project duration reaches at the given ship erection duration, called dock cycle. Through the application of the heuristics for real world ship erection projects, wc can observe significant improvement in resource leveling.

  • Based on the analysis of the functions of ship management company, this paper aims to explore how to build the platform to transmit anti process the information about ships by means of modern information management so as to solve a series of problems caused by blockages in information transmitting in present ship’s management. The paper also talks about the necessity of establishing various resource bases and using different information communicating methods to realize the resource sharing and intellectualization of ship’s business.

  • Several full mission simulators have been installed since about 10 years ago in Korea. The newly established Marine Simulation Training and Research Center at Korea Maritime University has played a key role for education and training of both cadets and in-service officers trainees, and for research on Korea ports such as Jeju international cruise port, Ulsan SBM and Kwangyang container port and many others. This study mainly focuses maritime education and training on the ship handling simulation and the bridge resource management conducted by Korea Maritime University.

  • In this paper, a resource management scheme for preventing the video frame loss in the presence of network congestion is proposed. WiMedia protocol is suitable for the application that supports the real-time multimedia service in the ship area network since it supports high speed data transfer. However, network congestion causes the degradation of video quality, since WiMedia standard discards video frames regardless of importance of video frame. Therefore, a resource management scheme for WiMedia network is proposed in this paper. The proposed technique can intelligently treat the network congestion, and solve the degradation of video quality.

  • The multi function radar is searching target and tracking through resource management at the same time. Increasing resource allotment of track, if more targets and faster the renewal rate of track, lead to decreasing quota of searching resource in limited resource. When the resource of search are decreased, it becomes degrade searching performance such as revisit time, number of detecting chance and tracking etc. Degraded performance of search reduces guided missile defense probability in complex strategy such as ship self defense. In this paper, we developed a modeling and simulation (M&S) tool that uses own-ship model, radar model, target model and defense model for analysis of self defense in complex strategy. We analyzed influence of ship self defense in complex strategy according to various target environments and track performance.

  • The painting process of large ships is an intense manual operation that typically comprises 9-12% of the total shipbuilding cost. Accordingly, shipbuilders need to estimate the required amount of anti-corrosive coatings and painting resources for inventory and cost control. This study aims to develop a software system which enables the shipbuilders to estimate paint area using existing 3D CAD ship structural models. The geometric information of the ships structure are extracted from the existing shipbuilding CAD/CAM system and used to create painting zones. After specifying the painting zones, users can generate the paint faces by clipping structural parts inside each zone. Finally, the paint resources may be obtained from the product of the paint areas and required paint thickness. Implementing the developed software system to real shipbuilders' operations has contributed to improved productivity, faster resource estimation, better accuracy, and fewer coating defects over their conventional manual calculation methods for painting resource estimation.

  • On this research, recognizing that ship inspection and audit services are closely related in Improving ship safety, the importance of active quality managements of ship inspection and audit services have been notified. For this research, based on previous research results, Quality managements of ship inspection and audit services were divided into the following aspects; the source of quality managements, execution of quality managements and outcome of quality managements. The results of this study is as follows. Overall, it is clearly shown that the elements of quality managements execution such as management responsibilities, resource management., product realization, measurement and analyzation, and improvement had also acted as a mediator between the relation of quality managements source and outcome.

  • In this paper, we develope a genetic algorithm for the erection scheduling in shipbuilding. Erection, the final manufacturing stage of shipbuilding, involves the landing and joining of blocks at drydock. Since several ships are built simultaneously at the same drydock and they compete with the common constrained production resource such as labor, space, and crane, we should consider both ship-specifics and common resource constraints for the desirable erection scheduling. Ship erection should also satisfy the predetermined dock cycle given from higher level production planning. Thus, erection schedule of a ship can be represented as a PERT/CPM project network with its own deadline. Since production resources are shared, the erection scheduling become the so-called multi-project scheduling problem with limited resources, which can not be solved easily due to the large size of project network. We propose a function as a minimization of load index which represented the load deviation over time horizon considering the yard production strategy. For the optical parameter setting, we tried various experiments. We verified that the proposed approach was effective to deal with the erection scheduling problem in shipbuilding.

  • The dock is the most important resource in shipbuilding yard. Among the shipbuilding schedules, the ship erection schedule in a dock is preferentially built. As results of it, the other schedules(machining in plants, block assembly, pre-painting, pre-rigging, painting and etc) are made. In this study, ship erection scheduling is formulated using ILOG Scheduler. This study is to develop a new problem solving method for ship erection to make an effective schedule based on Constraint Satisfaction Technique(CST).

A Study on the Resource Allocation Strategies of the Container Terminals Using Simulation Technique (시뮬레이션 기법을 이용한 컨테이너 터미널의 자원할당 전략에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents an estimation method of container handling capacity and selection of resource allocation strategies of container terminals using the computer simulation models. Simulation models are developed to model container terminal consisting of 4 berths considering the berth allocation strategies, crane allocation strategies and the total number of container cranes using Arena simulation package. The proposed models do not consider the yard operations and gate operations. All the input parameters for the models are estimated on the basis of the existing container terminal operation data and the planning data for the automated container terminal planned by Korean government. Four berth allocation strategies and three crane allocation strategies are considered. The total number of container cranes considered ranges from 12 to 15. Non-terminating simulation techniques are utilized for the performance comparison among alternatives. The performance measures such as average ship turnaround time, average ship waiting time, average ship service time, the number of containers handled per year, and the number of ships processed per year are used. The result shows that the berth allocation strategy minimizing the sum of the number of ships waiting, the number of busy container cranes and number of ships handled performs better than any other berth allocation strategies. In addition, the crane allocation strategy allocating up to 5 container cranes per berth performs better than any other crane allocation strategies. Finally there are no significant performance differences among the alternatives consisting of different total number of container cranes allocated.
