The maritime sector is advancing with dedicated endeavor to reduce greenhouse gas in addressing issues with regards to global warming. Since 01 January 2013, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulation mandatory requirement for Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) has been in place and should be satisfied by newly-built ships of more than 400 gross tonnage and the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) for all ships type. Therefore, compliance to this necessitates planning during the design stage whereas verification can be carried-out through an acceptable method during sea trial. The MEPC-approved 2013 guidance, ISO 15016 and ISO 19019 on EEDI serves the purpose for calculation and verification of attained EEDI value. Individual ships EEDI value should be lower than the required value set by these regulations. The key factors for EEDI verification are power and speed assessment and their synchronization. The shaft power can be measured by telemeter system using strain gage during sea trial. However, calibration of shaft power onboard condition is complicated. Hence, it relies only on proficient technology that operates within the permitted ISO allowance. On the other hand, the ship speed can be measured and calibrated by differential ground positioning system (DGPS). An actual test on a newly-built vessel was carried out to assess the correlation of power and speed. The Energy-efficiency Design Index or Operational Indicator Monitoring System (EDiMS) software developed by the Dynamics Laboratory-Mokpo Maritime University (DL-MMU) and Green Marine Equipment RIS Center (GMERC) of Mokpo Maritime University was utilized for this investigation. In addition, the software can continuously monitor air emission and is a useful tool for inventory and ship energy management plan. This paper introduces the synchronization and identification method between shaft power and ship speed for EEDI verification in accordance with the ISO guidance.
Industrial accident frequency in small- and medium-sized ship-building plants is much higher than that of large-sized ones so that safety management activities should be different. In that sense, voluntary hazard assessment would be helpful for small- and medium-sized plants. However, conventional hazard assessment items and methods had some problems that discouraged voluntary participation of plants concerned. This study aimed to develop a new model for small- and medium-sized ship-building plants that can promote and encourage voluntary hazard assessment activities. For that purpose, ship-building process was assumed as a sequence of phases, and accident characteristics were compared with them. From that result, relative weights of accident factors including ship-building phases, accident types, occupational category, accident-induced objects, and hazardous items were determined with accident frequency data and with the help of expert groups. Therefore, for web-based integrative computer programming, a plain but accident data-dependent model was developed, with an additive function for related agencies that want to collect assessment results. It is expected that this model would help small- and medium-sized ship-building plants that wanted not only simple checklists but also effective assessment and management guidelines.
This paper presents a decision making model for the cruise ship management. A network based optimization model has been developed for a single cruise ship operation. It gives optimal itinerary patterns over the planning period for the cruise ship managers wanting to maximize profit from the cruise ship operation. A network solution method to find the optimal solution is also developed. This network model can be equivalently transformed into a linear programming model, which makes the implementation of the model quite practical however complicated the given set of possible itineraries may be. The ship scheduling network developed in this study can also be used as a general framework to describe all possible cruise ship itineraries the cruise ship manager can figure out.

Since the technology of anti-ship missiles has advanced rapidly, defending battleships from the threat of anti-ship missiles is a crucial factor for the survival of warships. In this paper, we analyze the performance of an anti-ship missile defense system whose name is Close-In-Weapon-System. We show the survival probability of a warship equipped with the Close-In-Weapon-System as the number of anti-ship missiles attacking the warship varies. Because of the complex and dynamic operational characteristics surrounding the Close-In-Weapon-System such as speed of missiles, different range of an individual weapon in the weapon system, and the continuous change of the kill probability of the missiles corresponding to the distance of missiles from ships, few work has been done for the performance of Close-In-Weapon-System. We present a model to incorporate all the dynamic characteristics of the system using absorbing Markov Chain. With our results, we expect commanders of warships equipped with Close-In-Weapon-System to be provided with more helpful information on how to deal with the anti-ship missiles.
It is one of the most important factors Seafarers Ducation Quality Assurance and Management in Higher Maritime Educational Institution. The educational process and result of Higher Maritime Educational Institution should be evaluated according to the 1995 Amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers(STCW), 1978. Actually above-mentioned evaluation is deemed to make foundation in order to enhance the efficiency of shipboard education by surveying the satisfaction of shipboard training for nautical part cadets by the group. In this paper, we carried out the questionnaire survey to study satisfactory value and the reason of dissatisfaction of 113 cadets being trained on board the Training Ship in Maritime College of Korea Maritime University(K. M. U.). The results were calculated by frequency and percentage ; the significance of difference among Department groups like Maritime Transportation Science, Maritime Police and Ship Operating Systems Engineering was analysed by $X^2$ inspection. The major results of above analysis were as follows : First training chance for dadets was very little for being overflowed on board the training ship of the K. M. U. Second, special type of Training Ship HANBADA and HANNARA made the adaptability to merchant vessel's handling restricted. Third, cadets could not manage ratings directly, therefore the education in regard to seafaring management was limited to the theoretical instruction which leads to the low level of satisfaction. And lastly, low value of satisfaction for Drydocking Education in Shipyard was caused by cadet's leaving the Training Ship on account of the safety problems including ship and cadets.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to propose retrofit measures for KDX-II KVLS hull crack, also, enhance safety and quality of ship. Also, this study suggest to how to retrofit about hull crack of the ship and how to improve operability of the ship. Methods: Retrofit measures of KDX-II KVLS hull crack reach a conclusion through global structure analysis and fatigue analysis. Concerned about thermal deformation due to welding around the KVLS, in addition to, verify to safety of KVLS. Results: Based on result of global structure analysis establish retrofit measures for KDX-II KVLS hull crack. Additionally, through fatigue analysis establish final retrofit measures. The results of retrofit measures are allowed both stress level and fatigue life. Conclusion: Retrofit measures for ship hull crack based on global structure analysis and fatigue analysis improves operability and quality of the ship. Especially, KDX-II ship is the best battleship in our country. Considering the importance of KDX-II, this study improves both Korea navy's combat power and ability to carry out the mission.
This study examined the communication and conflict between ship prganization and ship management team. Those are measured and analyzed about both groups, and then the relationships would be investigated objectively and synthetically. Especially, this relationships are enlightened by measuring the level and gap of the communication and group conflict between ship organization and ship management team. The effect of that conflict is analyzed on the organization commitment and job satisfaction of ship organizations. As a result, this study demonstrates the communications have a negative influence on group conflict with statistic significance, also the conflicts effect negatively on the organization commitment and job satisfaction. In the analysis of gaps about the communication and conflict between groups, the level of group conflict is lowest in the group whose gap of communication is small and both communications are activated, and the organization commitment and job satisfaction are highest in the group whose gap of group conflicts is small and both level of the conflicts are low. To conclude, the ship organization and ship management teams in the shipping company have to lessen their conflict each other and heighten the organization commitment and job satisfaction through their smooth communication.

IoT (Internet of Things) is connected to all things Internet-based people and things, things and objects that communicate information between said intelligent technologies and services. Shipping each of a variety of devices that act independently from each other, but, it is actively interlock with each other is not easy practically days. Ship it within the means of communication, the communication between the ship, the communication between ship and shore configuration, SAN (Ship Area Network), RFID/USN, broadband communications, satellite communications and IT technology to a variety of marine environments for the safe navigation the ship's safety management system for the configuration you want to discuss the plan.
To propose an ergonomic layout on the bridge, this study conducted a usability evaluation on the on-bridge navigational equipment of a college training ship that is in use at present. Through the usability evaluation on the training ship navigators, the possibility of operational errors with navigational equipment, the possibility of readout errors with display devices and even the effect of navigational equipment on navigation were evaluated beyond the scope of existing layouts, which adopt only the importance and usage frequency of navigational equipment. By taking ergonomic variables into consideration, this study suggested an optimized layout for on-bridge navigational equipment using a mathematical programming model.

In maned ship, crews may have risks as they manage damage control system in IPMS in damage situations such as fire in a ship. So the application of unmaned autonomous systms can reduce the number of boarding crews and attribute to safe marine transportation. The paper suggests an intelligent system of the fire fighting control using fuzzy logic in Integrated Platform Management System which can take measures against fire situation of a ship excluding unnecessary warnings with undamaged situations. The system here detected the fire more accurately and adopted more appropriate measures according to ship status compared with conventional systems. Of all, a reduction of false detection of fires was noted.
