  • In maned ship, crews may have risks as they manage damage control system in IPMS in damage situations such as fire in a ship. So the application of unmaned autonomous systms can reduce the number of boarding crews and attribute to safe marine transportation. The paper suggests an intelligent system of the fire fighting control using fuzzy logic in Integrated Platform Management System which can take measures against fire situation of a ship excluding unnecessary warnings with undamaged situations. The system here detected the fire more accurately and adopted more appropriate measures according to ship status compared with conventional systems. Of all, a reduction of false detection of fires was noted.

  • This system is a FFS(Fire Fighting Ship) Training System to simulate real FFS Ship. In this system, Trainees get the skill of maneuvering and fire fighting and ability to make the best of situation by experiencing various scenario from instructors. In this case, There need to be an evaluation system to evaluate trainees objectively and acceptably. And the FFS Training Evaluation System was developed.

  • In this paper, we developed the Realtime Ship Position Information System and the software in relation to the system, which consists of the on-board system and the shore-based system. The on-board system is composed a GPS receiver, a computer, and a modem. The shore-based system is composed of a telephone, a modem and a computer. Both systems are operated by the data communication program The system displays automatically the ship's movement on the digital chart by using the ship's position acquired by a GPS receiver via INMARSAT-A communication system. The results presented in many experiments indicate that the system in processing the position data well during the transmission and reception.

  • This paper studies a series of logical topology reconfiguration processes corresponding to a series of traffic demand changes in a ship backbone network. The proposed reconfiguration technique is to minimize costly changes of traffic forwarding paths and minimize the average hop distance of traffic forwarding paths in terms of ship backbone network performance simultaneously. Performance evaluation is conducted to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed reconfiguration technique. It shows that the proposed reconfiguration technique yields efficient performance in the entire series of reconfiguration processes.

  • Questionnaire survey on performance requirement of ship’s speed such as not only accuracy but also response and robustness were carried out, and the experiments to survey the GPS performances of static and dynamic characteristics were carried out simultaneously. In this paper, the questionnaire survey focusing on docking maneuvering, some analytic results of the survey, the results of GPS performance, and the possibility of adaptation for docking maneuvering on SDME and GPS are discussed. Consequently, from the results of questionnaire survey the performance requirement of ship’s speed in docking/anchoring maneuvering have need under 1cm/sec on the standard deviation, and speed information from GPS was adopted to use maneuvering information in docking/anchoring.

  • With digitalization accelerated by the 4th industrial revolution, the marine traffic environment is also expected to change rapidly. The purpose of this study was to derive a new service for Aids to Navigation (AtoN) to respond to a new marine traffic environment and suggest service requirements from the perspective of the ship's operator. For this purpose, a survey of ship operators was conducted and IPA analysis was performed. Marine traffic intelligence and information services and Image-based ocean environment information services were deduced as high-priority services from the perspective of ship operators. Thus, the derived results can serve as basic data for developing new AtoN services and determining policy directions.

  • The purpose of this paper is as follow. The first is to investigate ship instrument supplier's and consumer's needs. The second is to study a feasibility of international ship instrument distribution center at Busan port. Therefore, the research scheme was experimented through a questionnaire survey answered by 878 companies. The results of this research indicate the necessity of ship instrument distribution center. The results of this study will be helpful for the success management of ship instrument distribution center.

  • An azimuth propeller can generate thrust in all directions by rotating its housing with an electric motor. An azimuth propeller can be operated using several methods to stop a ship. This study aims to derive an efficient method to stop a ship safely using an azimuth propeller through full-scale maneuvering trials with the research vessel "NARA" of Pukyong National University in 4.63 m/s (9 kts). Five methods with different azimuth propeller operations were tested to stop the ship. The test results confirmed that the simultaneous use of the thrust and the hydrodynamic force acting on the strut is the most effective method to stop the ship.

  • A novel approach to solve signal variation due to ship rocking in maritime wireless communication is introduced. We assume a ship-to-shore based communication scenario, where the transmitter is on shore and the receiver on the ship. Due to the ocean conditions, such as the presence of waves and wind etc. the ship is not stable and constantly experiences some form of rocking motion. This rocking motion causes the antenna on the ship to sway, creating instability in the signal reception. We envisage that the signal is offset at the receiver incurring high Bit Error Rate. This paper is to investigate and counter this problem by using Multiple-input Multiple-output (MIMO) technique. We propose to implement beamforming technique with multiple transmit antennas. The implementation of this proposed method crafts a robust maritime communication network.
