A considerable literature has recently grown up on the theme of ship wireless communications. However, much of the research up to now has been descriptive in the offshore area. There has been little quantitative analysis of wireless communication in inland waterways, which has received considerable attention lately. Until now, only the effects on inland river environment are examined. What is less clear is the nature of channel change caused by the antenna movement. Here we explore the moving ship-to-fixed-ship fading characteristics at 5.9 GHz for an inland waterway in the city center of China. The ship motion trajectory is designed in order to determine the effect of changes in the antenna position. We evaluate the channel fading characteristics of inland waterway, which are highly correlated with the distance between transmitter and receiver. We demonstrate that the line-of-sight component, as well as the components from multipath with obstruction reflections, contributes largely to the mean power gap. Our findings reveal critical ship-to-ship characteristics in inland waterway, which definitely contribute to the field of ship wireless communications.

Satellite television receiving antenna is required for watching TV on the vehicles, ship and car. Recently TV is not only facility as getting information but one of utility in our life. In Korea, already on the service multi-channel satellite TV using excellent visibility and sound, and there are many users using now by fixing antenna. On this thesis, developed ship's satellite TV receiving antenna, the azimuth controlling is adopted azimuth information using gyro sensor and differential of receiving signal strength algorithm, and elevation controlling used gimbals. The result of this research is successfully implemented Korean satellite tracking antenna as performance until ${\pm}$30 degree roll and pitch of ship motion.

In this paper, we present the size reduction method of HF whip antenna for ship communication. To reduce the size of the HF whip, the end part of linear whip is modified to helical type. We designed the whip antenna with 60% size of the commercial whip antenna and carried out communication experiments using the commercial and the designed whip antennas. From the experimental results, we found that the proposed whip antenna can replace the commercial whip antenna for ship communication.

It is important to test and evaluate the variation degree of ship-mounted antenna radiated power with respect to all directions in order to use more effectively antennas that installed on naval ships. The naval ship has various sensors for navigation, communication and electronic warfare, etc. And the performance of these sensors extremely depends on the various characteristics of antenna system to transmit and receive electromagnetic wave. The radiated power pattern of the antenna differs from all aspect angles of the ship because of complex superstructures. It is important to know the weak point(direction) of antenna radiation for appropriate operation. Therefore, the ARP(Antenna Radiation Pattern) of shipboard antennas is measured for the all aspect angles. The results of ARP measurement are utilized as reference for antenna arrangement of newly-built same class warship. This study also describes the development results for the ARP measurement technique, software design and test procedures to measure the radiation pattern of communication equipment antennas using the fixed test site.

To satisfy the operational requirements of surveillance radar and the operational concept of a ship combat system, an active-array-type antenna was designed using solid-state transmitters and receivers. The arrangement of the constituent electronic components of the antenna system, considerably large in size, and therefore, the antenna needs to be housed in a box. The rotational antenna system installed on a ship mast is installed in a sealed housing to protect the interior equipment from environmental conditions. The outer shape of the housing is that the antenna should be capable of rotating normally despite strong winds. Furthermore, in recent times, designs with low radar cross section (RCS) have attracted attention from the viewpoint of improving the stealth of the ship. In this light, four types of models are proposed for the outer shape design of the antenna system, and they are investigated from the viewpoint of low RCS design as well as wind load.

A MF/HF marine whip antenna with side whips, which are connected at an angle with the straight main whip, has reported In this paper, the effects of side whips on the antenna are simulated by using NEC-WIN and a novel MF/HF ship antenna with side whips is designed First of all, the gain, return loss, and radiation pattern of the antenna on infinite perfect conductor plane are simulated as function of the parameters of the side whip, such as the number, the location, the length of the side whip and the angle with the main whip. After that, the size of the antenna is decided and set up on an experimental ship in Korea Maritime University. The antenna on the ship are simulated and the simulated input impedances are good agreement with the measured results.

DBS offers actual services to mass-media and communication system of very broad region in information society. Especially, the DBS is the only system to access TV broadcasting service on a sailing ship. But the ship's DBS receiver is required a complex antenna tracking system because ships are under complex moving such as pitch, roll, and yaw etc. This study is motivated to develop a tracking antenna system to receive the koreasat on small silo ship. Therefore, this system is researched to small size, light weight, simple operation, and low cost of the product. The mount structure have been a compact size and easy operation to the Az/El 2-axis type which is operated by step motor. And it is very useful on a ship in the around sea of korean peninsula. The antenna has a plate type of micro-strip array, and is a domestic production. The vibration sensor is selected to gyro sensor of ultra-sonic rate type for ship's moving control. Tracking method is used the step-tracking algorithm, and the ship's moving compensation is adapted to the closed loop control method by ship's moving detection of gyro sensor. Tracking test is operated by the ship's moving simulator, we examined the actual receiving state on sailing shipboard in the near sea of korean peninsular.

During the sea trial, we discovered EMI between MOSCOS and ES DF antenna. CW emitted by MOSCOS raised the threshold level of ES DF antenna. As a result, direction finding rate of ES has been decreased. This is a study for the improvement of EMI between the antennas mounted on a surface ship. An analysis is accomplished for MOSCOS, ES DF antenna and Jamming transmitter. This paper presents the method how to solve EMI based on the measurements and calculations about the ES DF antenna receiving level, MOSCOS radiation pattern and Jamming transmitter thermal noise. The test was performed with optimal deployment of MOSCOS on a surface ship. After changing the position of MOSCOS, EMI has been decreased significantly.
The movement of a ship is important for DBS(Direct Broadcasting Satellite) Receiving Antenna control algorithm design on shipboard. Especially, turning of ship is essential factor to affect the angle change of azimuth and elevation. Therefore, to track the satellite stably, we need the tracking method considering turning rate of ship. In this paper, we propose an effective satellite tracking algorithm for DBS receiving antenna on shipboard. In the proposed method, when a ship is turned, it selects one of the Multi tracking modes - Normal mode, Low speed mode, Middle speed mode and High speed mode - according as turning rate to be calculated by using Gyro sensor.
This paper, UHF band integrated communication antenna for ship communication is designed as a flat type that can be mounted on the integrated mast among integrated communication antennas such as integrated communication, ship communication, broadcasting, and telephone of the ship. The unified mast mounted antenna is an integrated communication antenna applied to the Navy's KDDX, which is an optimized type of integrated communication antenna including a 'composite slope' structure including operational capability, survivability, and improved operability and maintainability. The existing rotary radar and a plurality of monopole-type communication antennas were changed from an irregularly attached shape to the mast exterior to an integrated mast shape including a flat-type integrated communication antenna. the radar reflection area index (RCS) is significantly lowered and compared to overseas products. The goal is to develop a gain broadband antenna.
