ANS (autonomous navigation system) is an expert system which builds navigation plans, understands the current environment, and controls a surface ship. The most ideal way to test ANS is available after it is installed into a real surface ship. however, it is impossible to implement into a real ship. since it costs too much to develop the hardware interfaces just for testing. The most appropriate way for testing is to develop a simulation system for a surface ship and apply it. A simulation system for a surface ship consists of two sub-systems : one is a ship movement simulation system to imitate the physical movement characteristics of the ship, and the other is an environmental objects simulation system to build up surroundings of the ship. In this paper, we design and develop a surface ship movement simulation system which imitates its physical movement characteristics by using a motion equation for surface ship.

A gun is still one of the major weapons of a combat ship. To assess the ship's fire control capability which is influenced by tracking system, fire control algorithm, gun, the ship itself, target behavior, environment and engagement situation, simulation system for gun-oriented engagement for surface ship is needed. This paper proposes the process for designing and implementing a gun-oriented engagement simulation system using DEVS(Discrete Event Simulation Specification), which is a formalism based on the set theory. It consists of the following activities : 1) analyzing the characteristics of a gun-oriented engagement, 2) constructing the deterministic model of the combat ship of study with DEVS, 3) modeling properties of each entity showing as stochastic errors. With this process, the gun-oriented engagement simulation system is developed and applied for the combat system under development.
Recently, the usage of containers in marine transportation is rapidly increasing. The problem of ship stability is important because of its direct influence to the loss of the human-life, ship, and merchandise. However, the assessment for ship stability during container loading/unloading in port is dependent on human experience only. On the other hand, the emerging information and communication technologies of shipbuilding industrial environments are rapidly changing. To respond to the situation, a new paradigm has been matured with new concepts such as the concrete method. Especially, all the efforts are shown to be concentrated to realize the concept of Simulation Based Design(SBD) based on three dimensional Computer Aided Design(CAD) model. In this paper, ship model-based simulation methodology for design and operation of ship is suggested, and for the verification of suggested methodology, the system for stability assessment of ship during container loading/unloading was developed using ENVISION, a general-purpose simulation system. The developed system consists of geometric modeling subsystem, basic calculation subsystem, and Computer Aided Engineering(CAE) subsystem. In addition, interface to CAE/CAD /simulation system such as SIKOB and ENVISION is provided.

Dynamic simulation is critical for electrical ship studies as it obtains the necessary information to capture and characterize system performance over the range of system operations and dynamic events such as disturbances or contingencies. However, modeling and simulation of the interactive electrical and mechanical dynamics involves setting up and solving system equations in time-domain that is typically time consuming and computationally expensive. Accurate assessment of system dynamic behaviors of interest without excessive computational overhead has become a serious concern and challenge for practical application of electrical ship design, analysis, optimization and control. This paper aims to develop a systematic approach to classify the sophisticated dynamic phenomenon encountered in electrical ship modeling and simulation practices based on the design intention and the time scale of interest. Then a novel, comprehensive, coherent, and end-to-end mathematical modeling and simulation approach has been developed for the latest Medium Voltage Direct Current (MVDC) Shipboard Power System (SPS) with the objective to effectively and efficiently capture the system behavior for ship-wide system-level studies. The accuracy and computation efficiency of the proposed approach has been evaluated and validated within the time frame of interest in the cast studies. The significance and the potential application of the proposed modeling and simulation approach are also discussed.

This system is a FFS(Fire Fighting Ship) Training System to simulate real FFS Ship. In this system, Trainees get the skill of maneuvering and fire fighting and ability to make the best of situation by experiencing various scenario from instructors. In this case, There need to be an evaluation system to evaluate trainees objectively and acceptably. And the FFS Training Evaluation System was developed.
Currently, most logistics use containers. The construction of new port and high speed medium size container ship for the transportation of merchandise have become very important. The problem of ship stability is also important because of its direct influence on the loss of human life, ships, and merchandise. The stability of a container ship during its operation is not a large problem because it is well considered in the design process. However, the assessment of ship stability during container loading/unloading in port still depends on the expertise of experienced personnel. In this paper, a model based simulation system is introduced, which is able to assess ship stability during container loading/unloading, using ENVISION, a general purpose simulation system.

Ship handling simulator is a virtual ship navigating system with three dimensional screen system and simulation programs. FTS simulation can produce theoretically infinite experiment tests without time constraint, but which results in collecting determinstic observations. RTS simulation can collect statistical observations but has disadvantage of spending at least 30 minutes for a single experiment. The previous studies suggested that the number of experiment conditions to be tested could be reduced to obtain random data with RTS simulation by focusing on highly difficult experiment condition for ship handling. It has the limitation of not estimating the distribution of ship handling difficulty for the route. In this paper, similarity and clustering analysis are suggested for reduction methodology of experiment conditions. Similarity of experiment conditions are measured as follows: euclidean distance of ship handling difficulty index and correlation matrix of distance differences from the designed route. Clustering analysis and multi-dimensional scaling are applied to classify experiment conditions with measured similarity into reducing the number of RTS simulation conditions. An empirical result on Dangin harbor is shown and discussed.

The present system of medium and large size ship when that's ship came alongside the pier, are not systemic. The steersman only depend on radio-communication, not visuality. This treatise bridge a gap of current system from development of simulation program The main-server get a distance from ship to peer and ship's direction using longitude and latitude, heading, rate. The steersman of main ship and tug will see all situation with PDA client program. The PDA client program directly display a location information from main-server. And ship's most suitable path be calculated simulation program using database system. This method will induce more detail situation information and the most suitable path when the ship coming alongside the pier.

A ship collision avoidance system is developed to control the avoidance action of ship actually and properly in wind forces. The 4-DOF maneuvering equations of motion ar derived to catty out the simulation of the motion of a ship, and the wind forces are considered as the external forces in the simulation. This study suggests a new avoidance system that could include the ship's maneuvering characteristics.

The simulation model of All-Electric-Ship consists of electrical and mechanical systems. Running the total simulation requires considerable time and causes a lack of computer memory, because the two systems have different dynamic characteristics. Therefore, integrated simulation is practically impossible. This paper proposes the simplified model of electrical system to reduce simulation time significantly, compared to the detailed model. The validity of the proposed simplified model is verified by comparing detailed and simplified simulation results. Thus, the simplified models are applied to the integrated system. As a result, total system simulation can be implemented.
