Prediction and Response of Ship`s Hull Girder for Slamming - On The Impact Force of Foreward Flat Bottom Plate - (Slamming에 관한 선체의 응답과 예측 - 전부선저의 충격적 중심으로 -)

  • This paper is on the prediction and response of the ship hull girder due to slamming of foreward flat bottom plate. The response with respect to foreward flat bottom is divided two kinds by estimating method. One is the estimation of impact forces by slamming, Another is the response of hull girder due to impact forces, that is, displacement, velocity, acceleration, etc. must calculate the values for considered ship hull girder. In this paper, therefore, was estimated only impact forces along ship ordinate of foreward. The analysis of data for estimation followed mainly papers of Ochi. These estimated data shall contribute for ship gull construction for basic optimum design. In particular, the estimated impact forces shall be given for the response of ship gull girder on the foreward flat bottom plate with characteristics of external forces.

  • Multipurpose fisheries base was conceptually designed to establish marine ranching system in the coastal waters around Tongyoung, southern sea of Korea. Fisheries base for marine ranching system has integrated various facilities which were required for the process of spawning, rearing, training, releasing, monitoring and catching functions. This base has five steel piles for supporting upper structure and systems. Four steel piles are surrounded by circular net pen made by steel wire, they have the function of the protection against fouling for pile and scouring for bottom soil as well as secondary rearing and short stocking. We can use the last pile to moor a ship and access to the base. Principal structure with steel piles is designed by optimization technique considering design external forces in the coastal waters of return period of 50 years. Design optimization Problem is formulated for this base. Optimal design of multipurpose fisheries base is numerically investigated by sequential quadratic programming method.

A Study on the Exhaust Gas After Treatment for Small Ship (소형선박용 배기가스 후처리장치에 관한 연구)

  • In this research, to cope with the exhaust being reviewed to establish legal regulations for domestic small vessels, a basic experiment on an exhaust emissions post-treatment system was conducted to construct the design data required for securing a localized technology. The data was secured based on the arithmetic mean calculated through setting the engine load to 25%, 50%, and 75% and conducting five. A 2800-cc turbo charger diesel-type engine was used in the experiment, and an engine dynamometer was used in the conducted tests. As a result, NOx was reduced by approximately 20% and PM was reduced by approximately 97%. Although the results indicated no significant changes to CO in test mode-1, it was greatly reduced as it transitioned into the next phase.

  • Ice resistance on ice-transiting vessels is one of th£ important issues concerning th£ design of ships with ice classes. In this study, th£ development of GUI software for estimation of ice resistance on ice-transiting vessels is discussed. lee resistance estimation equations, based on model tests and full-scale sea trial data from many previous research articles, are studied in conjunction with two ship categories i.e., ,icebreakers/supply/tug vessels and ice-strengthened cargo vessels. lee resistance estimation equations are summarized in common format and are compared with each other. The GUI software 'Ice View,' written in MS Visual Basic language, can calculate ice resistances according to varying ice thickness and ship speed. The software can provide the calculated results, with suitable tables and graphs, for easy comparison of each ice resistance estimation equation.

  • Recent growth in global economic situation has led dramatic increase in new buildings of large containerships. These increased new building orders have brought keen concerns of developing and improving the quality of design and increasing the productivity of the vessel in order to satisfy the ship Owner's various requirements. For the increment of productivity and quality of containership, the plastic type bearing pad of cargo hatch cover has been investigated intensively for years with the supplier of cargo hatch cover. The result of investigation showed that there are numbers of advantages for the Owner and Builder over the existing bronze bearing pads which are better corrosion resistance long life time, low friction coefficient, easy maintenance, easy installation, better production lead time and low maintenance cost.

  • The sea-communication fishing equipment installed on small vessels such as offshore fishing vessels is highly dependent on foreign products due to its high dependence on foreign products. From the perspective of domestication, the development of localization at the overseas level is underway, and we intend to demonstrate it by creating a dedicated testbed in order to secure track records. In this paper, we wanted to derive the testbed shape and design method through basic research for the design of the testbed.

  • In the Department of Naval Architecture, Seoul National University, the development of computer programs for the computer-aided ship design sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology has been begun. The project is to be accomplished as a four-year plan, and the results of the works of the first year, preliminary design of dry-cargo ships based on an optimization technique and some fundamental calculations accompanied with the basic design of ships such as calculations of displacement, hydrostatic characteristics of hull forms, stability, floodable length, load line and longitudinal section modulus, are given in the Report R-72-9[9] published by the sopnsor for the public interests. In this paper, the philosophy and methodological principles with which the preliminary design program given in Appendix II was developed are summerized.

  • A series of tests of 5 model ships, selected from a data survey of 10 Gross Tonnage actual fishing boats, were performed in two circulating water channels (Chosun University in Korea and WJFEL in Japan), in order to develop the basic hull form of a 25 knots-class fishing boat. Resistance tests, trim and sinkage measurements and wave pattern observations etc., were included in each I1wdel test, and the model test results were compared and analyzed. The result was as follows: P-4 hull form ship changed into Deep V type bow is the best hull form with good performance, especially with regard to ship's resistance efficiency.

  • Field trial in ice-covered sea is one of the most important tasks in the design of icebreaking ships. To correctly estimate ice load and ice resistance on ship's hull, It is essential to understand the material properties of sea ice during ice field trials and to perform the proper experimental procedure by gathering sea ice data. A measurement of sea ice properties was conducted during February and March of 2012 with the Korean Icebreaking research vessel "ARAON" in the Amundsen Sea, Antarctica. This paper describes a test procedure to obtain sea ice data which provide basic information to estimate ice loads and icebreaking performance of the ship. The data gathered from sea ice field trials during the 2012 Antarctic voyage of the ARAON includes ice temperature/salinity/density and the compressive/flexural strength of sea ice. This paper analyses the gathered Antarctic sea ice material properties comparing with the previous data obtained during ARAON's Arctic and Antarctic voyages in 2010.

Prediction of Ships' Bow Structural Damage during Collisions (충돌시 선수구조의 손상추정에 관한 연구)

  • Prediction of energy absorption for bow structure is important for a design of protective structures against collision. For the crushing behaviour of basic element of energy absorption, the plastic mechanism method is applied. The ship's crushing strength of bow section is obtained by summing the energy dissipated in all individual elements. The theoretical predictions are compared with experimental results for ship's bow models published with experimental results for ship's bow models published in the references, and it is observed that the present prediction method of crushing strength correlates well with the experimental results.
