소형 쉘앤튜브형 열교환기의 운전 조건에 따른 열유동 거동 특성 해석 (Analysis on Characteristics of Behavior of Thermal Flow According to Operation Conditions of Small-sized Shell and Tube-type Heat Exchanger)

  • The shell and tube-type heat exchanger was the most utilized in industrial field because of its simple structure and wide operation conditions and so on. This study was performed to investigate the characteristics of behavior of thermal flow according to operation condition of small-sized shell and tube-type heat exchanger. The operation conditions, here, were set up to flow rate of hot air with temperature of 100℃, number of baffle and cut rate of baffle(BCR) using numerical analysis. As the results, both mean relative pressure and relative pressure drop was increased with quadratic curve in case of less than BCR 25%, however, decreased linearly in case of more than BCR 25%. The collision with first baffle by flow velocity and temperature, of hot air, respectively, was depended on BCR. Further it showed that the behaviors between flow velocity and temperature were almost similar.

  • Because shell and tube heat exchanger is widely used in industry, extensive research work is going on to improve the thermal efficiency and to understand the key design parameters. In this study, the main design parameters of the baffle, depending on the height and number of baffle for heat recovery are being studied. Numerical results are in good agreement with the experimental results with a slight discrepancy of 3%, which is quite resonable. The heat transfer rate and pressure drop increase depending on increasing of number of baffles and baffle height, but increase of the heat transfer rate is limited due to contact area with the tube, flow separation, fluid residual time, turbulence and velocity.

Study on three-dimensional numerical simulation of shell and tube heat exchanger of the surface ship under marine conditions

  • Shell-and-tube heat exchanger (STHX) is widely used by virtue of its simple structure and high reliability, especially in a space-constrained surface ship. For the STHX of the surface ship, roll, pitch and other motion of the ship will affect the heat transfer performance, resistance characteristics and structural strength of the heat exchanger. Therefore, it is urgent to carry out numerical simulation research on three-dimensional thermal hydraulic characteristics of surface ship STHX under the marine conditions. In this paper, the numerical simulation of marine shell and tube heat exchanger of surface ship was carried out using the porous media model. Firstly, the mathematical physical model and numerical method are validated based on the experimental data of a marine engine cooling water shell and tube heat exchanger. The simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental results. The prediction errors of pressure drop and heat transfer are less than 10% and 1% respectively. The effect of marine conditions on the heat transfer characteristics of the heat exchanger is investigated by introducing the additional force model of marine condition to evaluate the effect of different motion parameters on the heat transfer performance of the heat exchanger. This study could provide a reference for the optimization of marine heat exchanger design.

원통-다관형 열교환기의 다관측 입출구 유동 특성의 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study of Inlet/Outlet Flow Characteristics in Tube-side of Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger)

  • 본 논문에서는 원통-다관형 열교환기의 다관측 유량의 분배도 향상을 위해 다공성 배플 유무에 따른 입구 및 출구부의 유동 특성을 실험적으로 연구하였다. 원통 및 다관측 유량의 분배성능은 원통-다관형 열교환기의 성능에 직간접적인 영향을 준다. 실험 연구를 위하여 원형 크기의 1/3로 축소한 실험 모델을 제작하였고, 60, 80, 90 LPM의 유량 조건에서 다공성 배플의 유무에 따른 다관측의 분배 성능을 입자화상속도기법을 이용한 입구 및 출구부의 속도장 측정을 통해 확인하였다. 연구로부터 절대 불균일 분배도를 계산하여 정량적으로 다공성 배플이 유량의 분배도에 주는 영향을 확인하였다. 측정 결과로부터 유량에 상관없이 배플을 설치하였을 경우 74%의 절대 불균일 분배도의 감소 효과를 가졌다.

공작기계 절삭유 냉각용 오일쿨러 설계 자동화 (Oil Cooler Design Automation on the Cooling of Machine Tool Cutting Oil)

  • The automatic design of shell & tube type oil cooler can be used in real industrial environments. Since the automatic design system is intended to be used in small companies, it is designed to be operated well under environments of CAD package in the personal computer. It has adopted GUI in design system, and has employed DCl language. Design parameters to be considered in the design stage of shell and tube type oil cooler are type of oil cooler, outer diameter, thickness, length of tube, tube arrangement, tube pitch, flow rate, inlet and outlet temperature, physical properties, premissive pressure loss on both sides, type of baffle plate, baffle plate cutting ratio, clearance between baffle plate outer diameter and shell inner diameter and clearance between baffle plate holes. As a result, the automatic design system of shell & tube type oil cooler is constructed by the environment of CAD software using LISP. We have built database of design data for various kinds of shell & tube type oil coolers. The automatic design system have been assessed and compared with existing specification of design. Good agreement with Handbook of heat exchanger and design dta of real industrial environments has been found.

동일 전열면적을 갖는 용접식 판형열교환기와 관류형 열교환기의 성능 비교 (Performance Comparison of a Welded Plate Heat Exchanger and Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger with Same Heat Transfer Area)

  • In this study, the performance of a shell and tube heat exchanger (STHE) and welded plate heat exchanger (WPHE) was measured experimentally. The pass numbers of the STHE was changed by 1, 2 and 4. As a result, the WPHE showed 2.1 times higher heat exchange capacity than that of the STHE. In case of pressure drop, the STHE with 1 and 2 pass number has a lower pressure drop than the WPHE, while the STHE with 4 pass presented higher pressure drop than the WPHE. The performance index considering the heat exchange capacity and pump consumption power, showed in oder of STHEPass1 > STHEPass2 > W PHE > STHEPass4 under the same flow rate. Therefore, when the WPHE was designed optimally under same operating condition with STHE, the maintenance fee and space can be reduced effectively by using the WPHE.

모듈형 관군 열교환기에서의 관 형상에 따른 열전달 및 압력강하 특성에 관한 연구 (Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop Characteristics for Various Tube Geometries in Modular Tube Bundle Heat Exchanger)

  • A numerical study has been performed to obtain the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics for shell-and-tube heat exchanger with various shapes of tubes. The Tubes have variation of Aspect Ratio, Pitch and Rotation. Results are presented as plots of Colburn j factor and friction factor f against Aspect Ratio, Pitch and Rotation. As Aspect Ratio increases, j factor and f factor decreases. As Pitch increases, j factor decreases. j/f have optimized Pitch for each Aspect Ratio. Accordingly, there is fitness of Aspect Ratio and Pitch fur most effective cases. The Rotation of tubes are of no meaning for both heat transfer and pressure drop.

Thermal Performance of a Spirally Coiled Finned Tube Heat Exchanger Under Wet-Surface Conditions

  • This paper is a continuation of the authors' previous work on spiral coil heat exchangers. In the present study, the heat transfer characteristics and the performance of a spirally coiled finned tube heat exchanger under wet-surface conditions are theoretically and experimentally investigated. The test section is a spiral-coil heat exchanger which consists of a steel shell and a spirally coiled tube unit. The spiral-coil unit consists of six layers of concentric spirally coiled finned tubes. Each tube is fabricated by bending a 9.6 mm diameter straight copper tube into a spiral-coil of four turns. The innermost and outermost diameters of each spiral-coil are 145.0 and 350.4 mm, respectively. Aluminium crimped spiral fins with thickness of 0.6 mm and outer diameter of 28.4 mm are placed around the tube. The edge of fin at the inner diameter is corrugated. Air and water are used as working fluids in shell side and tube side, respectively. The experiments are done under dehumidifying conditions. A mathematical model based on the conservation of mass and energy is developed to simulate the flow and heat transfer characteristics of working fluids flowing through the heat exchanger. The results obtained from the present model show reasonable agreement with the experimental data.

쉘-튜브 열교환기에서의 쉘쪽 유체의 특성에 따른 열교환기 성능 변화 예측 사례 (Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger Performance Estimation by Changing Shell-side Fluid Characteristics)

  • 쉘-튜브 열교환기가 나로우주센터 추진기관종합시험장(PSTC)에 설치되었으며, 이 열교환기는 극저온의 헬륨을 고온의 열매유와 열교환하여 약 500 K 까지 가열시키는 역할을 한다. 열교환기에서 토출되는 헬륨의 온도가 설계보다 100 K 낮게 나옴에 따라, 성능저하의 원인으로 열매유의 격막효과가 지목되었다. CFD 해석을 통해 격막효과의 유무를 확인하였으며, 격막효과에 의한 열교환기 성능저하는 미미한 것으로 판단되었다. 추가적으로 열교환기의 성능을 증가시키기 위하여 열매유 교체에 따른 열교환기 성능 변화를 알아보았다. 열매유를 사용하는 열교환기의 성능향상을 위해서는 500 K 부근에서 점성이 낮아야 하고, 열전도도가 높아야 한다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 추진기관종합시험장에서 운용된 극저온 헬륨과 고온 열매유의 열교환 시스템의 시험 결과를 본 논문에서 확인할 수 있다.

Tube의 형상 및 표면특성에 의한 Shell-and-Tube 열교환기의 열전달 성능 (The Performance in Shell-and-Tube Heat Exchangers with Configuration and Surface Characteristics of Tube)

  • This paper presents an improved performance of heat transfer for shell-and-tube and thermal analysis based on the Bell-Delaware method for single tube. Heat transfer has been compared for a smooth tube, helical tube and surface-coated tube. In general, the results showed that properly designed helical tube and surface-coated tube offer a significant improvement in heat transfer. The numerical results derived from the Bell-Delaware method for the shell-side heat transfer coefficient were verified with experimental results. The thermal analysis aids significantly in the solution of the design problem.
