  • In this paper, we present a content-based image retrieval method which is based on the feature extraction in the wavelet transform domain. In order to overcome the drawbacks of the feature vector making up methods which use the global wavelet coefficients in subbands, we utilize the energy value of wavelet coefficients, and the shape-based retrieval of objects is processed by moment which is invariant in translation, scaling, rotation of the objects The proposed methods reduce feature vector size, and make progress performance of classification retrieval which provides fast retrievals times. To offer the abilities of region-based image retrieval, we discussed the image segmentation method which can reduce the effect of an irregular light sources. The image segmentation method uses a region-merging, and candidate regions which are merged were selected by the energy values of high frequency bands in discrete wavelet transform. The region-based image retrieval is executed by using the segmented region information, and the images are retrieved by a color, texture, shape feature vector.

  • Since digital images and videos are rapidly increasing in the internet with the spread of mobile computers and smartphones, research on image retrieval has gained tremendous momentum. Color, shape, and texture are major features used in image retrieval. Especially, color information has been widely used in image retrieval, because it is robust in translation, rotation, and a small change of camera view. This paper proposes a new method for histogram refinement based on local color difference. Firstly, the proposed method converts a RGB color image into a HSV color image. Secondly, it reduces the size of color space from 2563 to 32. It classifies pixels in the 32-color image into three groups according to the color difference between a central pixel and its neighbors in a 3x3 local region. Finally, it makes a color difference vector(CDV) representing three refined color histograms, then image retrieval is performed by the CDV matching. The experimental results using public image database show that the proposed method has higher retrieval accuracy than other conventional ones. They also show that the proposed method can be effectively applied to search low resolution images such as thumbnail images.

  • In this paper we propose the CBIR algorithm which is based on a novel image block method that combined both color and edge feature. The main drawback of global histogram representation is dependent of the color without spatial or shape information, a new image block method that divided the image to 8 related blocks which contained more information of the image is utilized to extract image feature. Based on these 8 blocks, histogram equalization and edge detection techniques are also used for image retrieval. The experimental results show that the proposed image block method has better ability of characterizing the image contents than traditional block method and can perform the retrieval system efficiently.

  • The basic features in the indexing and retrieval of the image is used color, shape, and texture in traditional image retrieval method. We do not use these features and offers a new way. For content-based video indexing and retrieval, visual features used to measure the similarity of the geometric method is presented. This method is called the Radon transform. Without separation, this method is calculated based on the geometric distribution of image. In the experiment has a very good search results.

  • We suggest CBIR(Content Based Image Retrieval) method using color and shape information. Using just one feature information may cause inaccuracy compared with using more than two feature information. Therefore many image retrieval system use many feature informations like color, shape and other features. We use two feature, HSI color information especially Hue value and CSS(Curvature Scale Space) as shape information. We search candidate image form DB which include feature information of many images. When we use two features, we could approach better result.

  • This paper presented a method of extracting shape information from a clipart image and then measured the similarity between clipart images using the extracted shape information. The results indicated that the outlines of the extracted clipart images were clearer that those of the original images. Previous methods of extracting shape information could be classified into outline-based methods and region-based methods. Included in the former category, the proposed method expressed the convex and concave aspects of an outline using the ratio of a rectangle. Accordingly, the proposed method was superior in expressing shape information than previous outline-based feature methods.

  • As the availability of an image information has been significantly increasing, necessity of system that can manage an image information is increasing. Accordingly, we proposed the region-based content retrieval(CBIR) algorithm based on an efficient combination of an image segmentation, an image texture, a color feature and an image's shape and position information. As a color feature, a HSI color histogram is chosen which is known to measure spatial of colors well. We used active contour and CWT(complex wavelet transform) to perform an image segmentation and extracting an image texture. And shape and position information are obtained using Hu invariant moments in the luminance of HSI model. For efficient similarity computation, the extracted features(color histogram, Hu invariant moments, and complex wavelet transform) are combined and then precision and recall are measured. As a experimental result using DB that was supported by www.freefoto.com. the proposed image retrieval engine have 94.8% precision, 82.7% recall and can apply successfully image retrieval system.

  • As the improvement of digital technologies increases the use of images from various fields, the domain of image retrieval has evolved and become a growing topic of research in the Library and Information Science field. The purpose of this study is to identify the knowledge structure of the image retrieval domain by using the author co-citation analysis and author bibliographic coupling as analytical tools in order to understand the domain's past and present. The data set for this study is 245 articles with 8,031 cited articles in the field of image retrieval from 1998 to 2013, from the Web of Science citation database. According to the results of author co-citation analysis for the past of the image retrieval domain, our findings demonstrate that the intellectual structure of image retrieval in the LIS field consists of predominantly user-oriented approaches, but also includes some areas influenced by the CBIR area. More specifically, the user-oriented approach contains six specific areas which include image needs, information seeking, image needs and search behavior, image indexing and access, indexing of image collection, and web image search. On the other hand, for CBIR approaches, it contains feature-based image indexing, shape-based indexing, and IR & CBIR. The recent trends of image retrieval based on the results from author bibliographic coupling analysis show that the domain is expanding to emerging areas of medical images, multimedia, ontology- and tag-based indexing which thus reflects a new paradigm of information environment.

  • With the exponential growth of medical image big data represented by high-resolution CT images(CTI), the high-resolution CTI data is of great importance for clinical research and diagnosis. The paper takes lung CTI as an example to study. Retrieving answer CTIs similar to the input one from the large-scale lung CTI database can effectively assist physicians to diagnose. Compared with the conventional content-based image retrieval(CBIR) methods, the CBIR for lung CTIs demands higher retrieval accuracy in both the contour shape and the internal details of the organ. In traditional supervised deep learning networks, the learning of the network relies on the labeling of CTIs which is a very time-consuming task. To address this issue, the paper proposes a Weakly Supervised Similarity Evaluation Network (WSSENet) for efficiently support similarity analysis of lung CTIs. We conducted extensive experiments to verify the effectiveness of the WSSENet based on which the CBIR is performed.

  • In content based image retrieval (CBIR) system, the images are represented based upon its feature such as color, texture, shape, and spatial relationship etc. In this paper, we propose a MRI Image Retrieval using wavelet transform with mahalanobis distance measurement. Wavelet transformation can also be easily extended to 2-D (image) or 3-D (volume) data by successively applying 1-D transformation on different dimensions. The proposed algorithm has tested using wavelet transform and performance analysis have done with HH and $H^*$ elimination methods. The retrieval image is the relevance between a query image and any database image, the relevance similarity is ranked according to the closest similar measures computed by the mahalanobis distance measurement. An adaptive similarity synthesis approach based on a linear combination of individual feature level similarities are analyzed and presented in this paper. The feature weights are calculated by considering both the precision and recall rate of the top retrieved relevant images as predicted by our enhanced technique. Hence, to produce effective results the weights are dynamically updated for robust searching process. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is easily identifies target object and reduces the influence of background in the image and thus improves the performance of MRI image retrieval.
