밀도 분포를 이용한 최적 위상 설계 시스템의 개발 (Development of CAD System for Optimal Topology Design using Density Distribution)

  • Optmal topology design is to search the optimal layout of the structure which can be used fot the shape of the conceptual design stage. Our objective is to maximize the stiffness of the structure under a material usage constraint. The density of each finite element is the design variable and its relationship with Young's modulus is expressed by quadratic form. The shape is represented by the entire density distribution, the structural analysis is performed by finite element method and the optimization is achieved by feasible direction method. Unlike optimality criteria method,feasible direction method can handle various problems simultaneously, that is, multi- objectives and multi-constraints. Total optimization time can be reduced by the approximation of the material property and fewer design variables than homogenization method. Topology optimization is applied to design the shape of ribs.

Multi-criteria shape design of crane-hook taking account of estimated load condition

  • In order to improve the crane-hook's performance and service life, we formulate a multi-criteria shape design problem considering practical conditions. The structural weight, the displacement at specified points and the induced matrix norm of stiffness matrix are adopted as the evaluation items to be minimized. The heights and widths of cross-section are chosen as the design variables. The design variables are expressed in terms of shape functions based on the Gaussian function. For this multi-objective optimization problem with three items, we utilize a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm, that is, the multi-objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO). As a common feature of obtained solutions, the side views are tapered shapes similar to those of actual crane-hook designs. The evaluation item values of the obtained designs demonstrate importance of the present optimization as well as the feasibility of the proposed optimal design approach.

  • 복잡한 시스템 계의 설계정보를 효과적으로 추출하기 위해서 형상최적설계가 수행되는 경우, 일반적으로 유한요소해석 기법과 D-최적배열을 이용한 실험계획법이 연동된 반응표면모델을 구성하고 여기에 최적설계기법이 적용된다. 그러나, 설계변수에 형상공차와 같은 변동성이 존재하면 최적해의 강건성 확보를 위하여 설계변수의 형상공차를 확률론적인 변동성으로 고려한 추가적인 강건설계가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 계산시간이 많이 소요되는 유한요소해석에 의한 강건설계문제에 설계변수의 표준정규분포를 고려한 반응표면모델을 구축하여 최적설계를 수행하므로서 손쉽게 강건최적값을 구하는 방법을 제안하였다. 승용차용 브레이크 디스크에 제안된 방법을 적용하여 열변형과 중량을 최소화하는 설계변수의 강건최적해를 구하고, 몬테카를로 시뮬레이션 추정결과와 비교하여 이의 적합성을 검증하였다.

  • The relationship between structural geometry and number of life cycles to failure is investigated to improve the fatigue life of structural components. The linear elastic fracture mechanics(LEFM) approach is integrated with shape optimal design methodology. The primary objective of this study is to decide an optimal shape for enhancing the life of the structure. The results from LEFM analyses are used in the fatigue model to predict the life of the structure before failure is occurred. The shape of the structure is optimized by using the growth strain method. Relevant issues such as problem formulation, finite element modeling are explained. Three design examples are solved, and the results show that, with proper shape changes, the life of structural systems subjected to fatigue loads can be enhanced significantly.

  • The optimal blank design method by sensitivity analysis has been applied to the formings of oil-pan, tailored blank and front panel have been chosen as the examples. Die shape is prepared by a commercial CAD system. Excellent results has been obtained between the numerical results and the target contour shapes. Through the investigation, the proposed systematic method of optimal blank design is found to be effective in the practical forming processes.

  • In this paper, we introduce a seamlessly integrated CAD-based design system (DS) for CAD modeling, engineering analysis, and optimal design which has been developed in CCED at KAIST, The key points of this integrating philosophy are to make full use of a parametric CAD program as the platform of integration and to adopt finite difference method for design sensitivity analysis in optimization process to get robustness and versatility. Design variables are directly selected by clicking CAD model parameters and all the analysis and design activities are menu-driven. This integrated program, named as DS/FDM, runs on Windows NT or Unix and FE analyses are performed at a remote Unix-workstation for multiple users. Application examples include shape optimal design of a belt clip that fits onto a portable electronic device and a bracket to show performance of DS/FDM with shell and tetra solid elements. This software is found efficient and effective fur shape design and size design of engineering structures.

  • Polynomial is used to optimize crown bowl shape of a marine medium speed diesel engine piston. The primary goal of this paper is that it's for an original design through a thermal stress and highest temperature minimum. Piston is modeled using solid element with 6 design variables defined the positional coordinate value. Global optimum of design variables are found and evaluated as developed and integrated with the optimum algorithm combining genetic algorithm(GA) and tabu search(TS). Iteration for optimization is performed based on the result of finite element analysis. After optimization, thermal stress and highest temperature reduced 0.68% and 1.42% more than initial geometry.

터보블로어 설계인자의 성능특성 연구 (Performance Analysis on the Design Variables of a Turbo Blower)

  • This paper describes the shape optimization of a blower impeller used for a refuse collection system. Two design variables, which are used to define the blade angles of an impeller, are introduced to increase the blower performance. A blower efficiency is selected as an object function, and the shape optimization of the blade angles is performed by a response surface method (RSM). Three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations are introduced to analyze the internal flow of the blower and to find the value of object function for the training data. Relatively good agreement between experimental measurements and numerical simulation is obtained in the present study. Throughout the shape optimization, blower efficiency for the optimal blade angles is successfully increased up to 3.6% compared with that of reference at the design flow rate. Detailed flow field inside the turbo blower is also analyzed and discussed.

열간단조에서 유한요소법과 유전 알고리즘을 이용한 예비성형체의 최적형상 설계 연구 (A Study on the Optimal Preform Shape Design using FEM and Genetic Algorithm in Hot Forging)

  • The main objective of this paper is to propose the optimal design method of forging process using genetic algorithm. Design optimization of forging process was doing about one stage and multi stage. The objective function is considered the filling of die. The chosen design variables are die geometry in multi stage and initial billet shape in one stage. We performed FE analysis to simulated forging process. The optimized preform and initial billet shape was obtained by genetic algorithm and FE analysis. To show the efficiency of GA method in forging problem are solved and compared with published results.

자동충전시스템을 위한 벌크 솔리드 피더의 최적설계 (Study on Optimal Design of Bulk Solids Feeder for Automatic filling system)

  • This paper presents an overview of the concepts of optimal feeder design in relation to the loading of bulk solids for Automatic filling system that should be control the amount of goods and packaging to seal. Feeder modular device, important parts of the package, so in order to perform a conceptual design optimization techniques are applied in two steps. First of all derive the problems through structural analysis for the conceptual model of vibrating feeder. Secondly derive reasonable design model based on the results of the structural analysis of modified boundary shape and then verify it. The proposed system has the following goal that is satisfies the dynamic stability with minimum weight and optimization of the shape. As a result, the weight reduction of feeder is 2.1% and 7% increase in the natural frequency.
