In the current study, automatic tool compensation is accomplished by using a finite element stamping analysis for a center roof rail made of UHSS in order to satisfy the specifications for shape accuracy. The initial blank shape is calculated from a finite element inverse analysis and potential forming defects such as tearing and wrinkling are determined by the finite element stamping analysis based on the initial tool shape. The blank shape is optimized to meet the shape requirements of the final product with the stamping analysis, and die compensation is determined with the information about springback. The specifications for shape accuracy were successfully achieved by the proposed die compensation scheme using the finite element stamping analysis. The current study demonstrates that the compensation tendency is similar when the proposed scheme is used or when the compensation is performed by trial and error in the press-shop. This similarity verifies that the automatic compensation scheme can be used effectively in the first stage of tool design especially for components made from UHSS.

In this study, the formed tool is used to machine of bearing raceway and a shape compensation scheme is proposed to compensate for shape of it in turning process. It is introduced the conventional design method of the formed tool; a simple depth compensation method and a drawing compensation method. And it is performed to investigate in detail properties of the formed tool about a tool angle and problems of a turning process of bearing raceway using the formed tool. The applicability of the proposed scheme is examined by comparing the experimental results obtained by a new designed formed tool with those obtained by a conventional tool.

In this paper, we propose a new shape compensation scheme to make up for the difference in groove radius between the formed tools and the machined bearing raceways, which inherently takes place during machining the ball bearing raceways by the turning process using conventional formed tools. The associated conventional methods of the formed tool design and its modification such as a simple depth compensation method and a graphical compensation method are introduced and the latter, which has been known to be the better of the two, is experimentally investigated in detail to reveal its drawback. The algorithm is given and it is applied to develop a formed tool design program. The program developed by the presented approach is successfully applied to design the formed turning tool for the bearing raceways.

In this paper, we investigate path compensation scheme for the machining errors due to tool deflection in 2D contour machining. The significance of the deflection error is first shown by experiments, and a direct compensation scheme is sought. In the presented scheme, the tool path is evaluated and correcte based on the instantaneous deflection force model, until the desired contour can be obtained under the presence of tool deflection in actual machining. In the sense that the developed method estimates and compensates the machining errors via modifying the tool path, it is distinguished from the previous approach based on geometric simulation and cutting simulation. Further, it can be viewed as a direct and active method toward direct shape control in CNC machining. Simulation results are included to show the validity and adequacy of the path-modification scheme under various cutting conditions.
Changes in the accuracy of the geometrical shape after a surface treatment are often very large due to the variation of the deformation mechanisms such as edge draw-in and the variation in springback caused by the reduction in the coefficient of friction between the tool and the blank. In the present study, the resulting shape accuracy due to the changes in deformation is quantitatively examined in order to predict the variation and to remove any undesirable additional tool compensation for the center pillar member made from steel with a UTS of 980MPa. The study examines important process parameters that are closely related with the edge draw-in such as the blank holding force, the contact status between the tool and the blank and the friction coefficient. The proposed method is applied within the finite element analysis of the stamping process for tools after a surface treatment and the amount of edge draw-in and flush values are compared between the analysis and experiments. The results demonstrate that the proposed quantification and finite element scheme are applicable to complicated tool compensation procedures and compensation can be designed effectively.

Geometry based CAD/CAM system is hard to achieve "net shape machining" For a net shape machining, the machining errors should be compensated by off-line CAD/CAM system followed by on-line control system. In this paper, we investigate an off-line compensation scheme for the machining errors due to tool deflection in contouring operation. The significance of the deflection errors is first shown, and a compensation is sought via modifying the nominal tool path. In modification, tool deflection amount is iteratively compensated until the deflection amount is iteratively compensated until the deflected path results in the desired contour within a tolerance. The path modification algorithm has been tested via computer simulation. The developed algorithm can be used as a postprocessor for the current CAD/CAM system based on geometric modeling as a means for enhancing the machining accuracy.

In this paper, a new scheme to recognize a finger shape in the depth image captured by Kinect is proposed. Rigid transformation of an input finger shape is pre-processed for its robustness against the shape angle of input fingers. After extracting contour map from hand region, observing the change of contour pixel location is performed to calculate rotational compensation angle. For the finger shape recognition, we first acquire three pixel points, the most left, right, and top located pixel points. In the proposed algorithm, we first acquire three pixel points, the most left, right, and top located pixel points for the finger shape recognition, also we use geometrical features of human fingers such as Euclidean distance, the angle of the finger and the pixel area of hand region between each pixel points to recognize the finger shape. Through experimental results, we show that the proposed algorithm performs better than old schemes.
Recently, interest in ground subsidence in urban areas has increased after a large sinkhole occurred near the high-story building area in Jamsil, Seoul, Korea, in 2014. If a massive sinkhole occurs in an urban area, it is crucial to assess its risk rapidly. Access to humans for on-site safety diagnosis may be difficult because of the additional risk of collapse in the disaster area. Generally, inspection using drones equipped with high-speed lidar sensors can be utilized. However, if the sinkhole is created vertically to a depth of 100 m, similar to the sinkhole in Guatemala, the drone cannot be applied because of the wireless communication limit and turbulence inside the sinkhole. In this study, a three-dimensional (3D) scanning system was fabricated and operated using a towed cable in a massive vertical sinkhole to a depth of 200 m. A high-speed lidar sensor was used to obtain a continuous cross-sectional shape at a certain depth. An inertial-measuring unit was applied to compensate for the error owing to the rotation and pendulum movement of the measuring unit. A reconstruction algorithm, including the compensation scheme, was developed. In a vertical hole with a depth of 180 m in the mining area, the fabricated system was applied to scan 0-165 m depth. The reconstructed shape was depicted in a 3D graph.

We propose a novel lane detection method based on classification in image sequences. Both structural and statistical features of the extracted bright shape are applied to the neural network for finding correct lane marks. The features used in this paper are shown to have strong discriminating power to locate correct traffic lanes. The traffic lanes detected in the current frame is also used to estimate the traffic lane if the lane detection fails in the next frame. The proposed method is fast enough to apply for real-time systems; the average processing time is less than 2msec. Also the scheme of the local illumination compensation allows robust lane detection at nighttime. Therefore, this method can be widely used in intelligence transportation systems such as driver assistance, lane change assistance, lane departure warning and autonomous vehicles.

In this paper, we have analyzed the current MPEG-4 video encoding tools and proposed efcient coding techniques that reduce the complexity of the encoder. Until recently, encoder optimization without shape coding has been a major concern in video for wire/wireless low bit rate coding services. Recently, we found out that the computational complexity of MPEG-4 shape coding plays a very important role in the object-based coding through experiments. We have made an experiment whether we could get optimized object-based coding method through successfully combining latest optimized texture coding techniques with our proposed optimized shape coding techniques. In texture coding, we applied the MVFAST method for motion estimation. We chose not to use IVOPF(Intelligent VOP Formation) but to use TRB(Tightest Rectangular Boundary) for positioning VOP and, finally, to eliminate the spiral search of shape motion estimation to reduce the complexity in shape coding. As a result of experiment, our proposed scheme achieved improved time complexity over the existing reference software by $57.3\%$ and over the optimized method on which only shape coding was applied by $48.7\%$, respectively.
