  • This study conducted a 4-week clinical trial on 30 males suffering from seborrheic dermatitis and hair loss symptoms to examine the effects of rooibos extract on the seborrheic dermatitis improvement of 30-50 year old middle aged males. The comparison group used shampoo with no rooibos extract while experiment group 1 used shampoo including rooibos extracts, and experiment group 2 used shampoo and scalp enhancer including the rooibos extracts. The results showed that there were no meaningful changes on the scalps of the comparison group while experiment group 2, which used both shampoo and scalp enhancer including rooibos, showed better improvement on seborrheic dermatitis than experiment group 1 which only used shampoo including rooibos. These results imply that shampoo and scalp enhancer including rooibos extracts effectively improve the oil-moisture balance on seborrheic dermatitis and effectively deals with scalp itchiness redness and the color tone of the scalp, suggesting its use in scalp cosmetics that include antioxidation activation elements, which are effective in improving seborrheic dermatitis.

  • In this study, we prepared the functionalized Shampoo with three-type functionalized microcaples which were synthesized by microcapsulation, respectively. In detail, the functionalized microcapsule was included such as (1) the functionalized microcapsule with core-menthol and shell-melamine resin and (2) the functionalized microcapsule with core-menthol and shell-lecithin, and (3) the functionalized microcapsule with core-cinnamon oil and shell-lecithin, respectively. The size and morphology of the prepared microcapsules was evaluated via Optical Microscopy (OM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS). From these results, the prepared microcapsules with size of 0.1~0.2 ㎛ and spherical morphology was confirmed. Furthermore, we applied the prepared Shampoo to treat hair. As results we confirmed that the scalp temperature was decreased about 3~4 ℃ compared to no treatment. This result may be considered that the core compounds are vaporize when the functionalized Shampoo is treated on scalp. We will determine the change of scalp pore, diameter of hair, and etc during treatment of the functionalized Shampoo.

  • This study was described about the EEG response results of tea tree oil fragrance for the development of functional shampoo additives. In the case of experimenters (1) the intensity change of the right brain alpha wave in electroencephalographic (EEG) response was increased after inhalation of the tea tree oil fragrance. (2) the change of physical tension and stress both the left brain and the right brain in EEG response showed a tendency to decrease after inhalation compared to before inhalation of the tea tree fragrance. (3) the mental distraction and stress was decreased after experimenters inhales the tea tree oil fragrances. These means the tea tree fragrances have both mental stability and stress relief. From above results, we prepared the functional shampoo additives with tea tree oil, and the we determined the alpha wave in EEG response after the functional shampoo additive fragrance for experimenters. As results, (4) the alpha wave intensity in left and right brain was significantly decreased after inhaling the functional shampoo additives fragrance. (5) physical tension and stress changes were decreased after inhalation of functional shampoo additive fragrance. (6) mental distraction and stress changes were also decreased after inhalation of functional shampoo additive fragrance. , From above results, the functional shampoo additives could be used as physical and mental relievers. Furthermore, the functional shampoo additives have the effects of scalp calming when the experimenter was treated shampoo with the functional shampoo additives.

  • Purecell, hydroxyethyl-cellulose-2-hydroxypropyltrimethyl ammonium chloride ether, was developed as a thickener and evaluated its functions for stability and safety when it was added in the cosmetic composition. Compared with a commercially available thickener Natrasol, Purecell have a basic chemical backbone of hydroxyethylcellulose which has been widely used in the cosmetic industry. pH and viscosity of Purecell was lower than those of Natrasol, however, a similar pH value to was shown when the Purecell was added into a shampoo or cream. The Purecell was stable to temperature and light. When 0.5% of the Purcell was added to a shampoo having cationic surfactant, a separation occurred due to the same cationic surfactant of the Purecell and shampoo. However, the shampoo and cream made with Purecell improved a smoothness and adaptability of hair. It also showed a negative response for Patch test of human, indicating the Purecell was safe for use.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between physical properties of dried coacervate films and dry feel for shampoo composition. Simple shampoo compositions were made of two different cationic charge density polymers in the same surfactant compositions. The simple shampoo compositions were diluted with distilled water to make coacervate. Formed coacervate was collected by centrifuge (3,000 rpm, 30 min). Coacervate was coated on the glass plates and dried in drying oven (for 1 h, $50^{\circ}C$) to make the thin film. We carried out an experiment on measurement of contact angle, moisture loss ratio and SEM image analysis of the dried coacervate film. Dry feelings of the shampoos were evaluated by panel using hair tresses. Results show that the properties of dried coacervate films affect the dry feel of the after shampooing.

  • This study attempts to quantify amount of coacervate generated in a formulation of shampoo with three methods using optical transmission, suspension in a glass tube, and centrifugation. For the correct data acquisition, each method has been optimized to estimate the amount of coacervate with minimum standard deviation. To simply and quantitatively estimate amount of coacervate, two formulations of shampoo were employed as a large or small amount of coacervate generated. Comparisons of the two formulations in repetitive measurement elucidated that the methods by the centrifugation efficiently can be utilized to estimate the accurate amount of coacervate. Additionally, the amount of coacervate by the centrifugation does not exhibit the difference of patterns before and after drying in a shampoo formulation with different conditioning polymers, and this suggests that the centrifugation is a superior method to compare amount of coacervate in liquid.

  • This thesis aimed to reduce the differences of hair color when hair coloring, so it researched the differences & changes in hair color before shampoo v.s. after shampoo and dry on different heat processes when acid hair color dyeing. Five hair color dyes (Y, R, B, G, Br) manufactured by two different corporations were used. The acid hair color dyes were tinted on black and bleached hair pieces subjected to 3 different heat process; 1. Normal Temperature($25^{\circ}C$, 30min.) / 2. Heating($40^{\circ}C$, 15min.)+Normal Temperature($25^{\circ}C$, 15min.) / 3. Heating($40^{\circ}C$, 30min.). Color numbers were divided by NCS value, chroma, and hue. Statistical averages were derived and t-test was conducted using SPSS V12. Hair color differences and changes were drawn on an NCS chart using Photo Shop PS. The conclu is; If acid hair colorings are separated by a heating process, hair value & chroma change before shampoo vs. after shampoo & dry regardless of the color of hair and the heat process. Hue is not changed or shifted counter clockwise NCS color circle, but some exceptions, and it's the same when the total heat process results are combined. Black hair's value shifted downward and chroma left, and hue stayed either neutral or one color or it shifted counter clockwise on NCS color circle. Bleached hair's value shifted upward and chroma right, and hue stayed one color or shifted counter clockwise, but some exceptions. And it can be shown on NCS chart.
