  • The effects of the gravity field and the free surface on the cavity shape and the drag are investigated through a numerical analysis for the steady supercavitating flow past a simple two-dimensional body underneath the free surface. The continuity and the RANS equations are numerically solved for an incompressible fluid using a $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulence model and a mixture fluid model has been applied for calculating the multiphase flow of air, water and vapor using the method of volume of fluid and the Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model. Numerical solutions have been obtained for the supercavitating flow about a two-dimensional $30^{\circ}$ wedge in wide range of depths of submergence and inflow velocities. The results are presented for the cavity shape, especially the length and the width, and the drag of the wedge in comparison with those of the case for the infinite fluid flow neglecting the gravity and the free surface. The influences of the gravity field and the free surface on the aforementioned quantities are discussed. The length and the width of the supercavity are reduced and the centerline of the cavity rises toward the free surface due to the effects of the gravity field and the free surface. The drag coefficient of the wedge, however, is about the same except for shallow depths of submergence. As the supercavitating wedge is approaching very close to the free surface, it is found the length and the width of a cavity are shorten even though the cavitation number is reduced. Also the present result suggests that, under the influence of the gravity field and the free surface, the length of the supercavity for a certain cavitation number varies and moreover is proportional to the inverse of the submergence depth Froude number.

  • In this paper the performance of a array invariant method is evaluated for source-range estimation in horizontally stratified shallow water ocean waveguide. The method has advantage of little computationally effort over existing source-localization methods. such as matched field processing or the waveguide invariant and array gain is fully exploited. And. no knowledge of the environment is required except that the received field should not be dominated by purely interference This simple and instantaneous method is applied to simulated acoustic propagation filed for testing range estimation performance. The result of range estimation according to the SNR for the underwater impulsive source with broadband spectrum is demonstrated. The spatial smoothing method is applied to suppress the effect of mutipath propagation by high frequency signal. The result of performance test for range estimation shows that the error rate is within 20% at the SNR above 10dB.

  • Han River estuary (HRE) is located at the middle of the western coast of Korea, and tidal currents were measured at 4 stations in this estuary during the winter season, and previously observed tide data was analyzed. The results of amplitude ratio of $M_4/M_2$ showed that increasing upward to estuary in the HRE. Tide harmonic constants of relative phase $2M_2-M_4$ represent flood dominance, with under 180 degree. But this method has a limit of analysis that typically based on the non-linear distortion of the tidal current in tidal lagoon system where freshwater discharge is assumed to be relatively small. The results of statistically tidal current data indicated that ebb current velocity would be great unlike tide data. Ebb and flood duration time is calculated by slack time of tidal current showed that ebb duration time is longer than flood. The results of correlation of analysis show high value (0.9) between tidal current stations from Incheon harbor to north entrance of Yeomha channel. We reconstructed to find the reasons for the features of ebb dominance the results of harmonic analysis. As major component ($M_2$) in combination with shallow water component ($M_4$), the tidal curve was presented flood dominance that has a flood current is stronger. However, these curve were changed to ebb dominance add up the non-harmonic components that had ebb direction flow by calculated tidally averaged current. The characteristic of enhancement on ebb is showed around the Yeomha channel in the HRE, because averaged flow which acts seaward such as long-term tidal current components due to non-linear effect and freshwater which overcome the flood current.

  • The data of Secchi disc observation collected during $1966\~1990$ were analyzed to investigate the seasonal variation of transparency in the southeastern Yellow Sea. The bimonthly distribution of mean transparency showed that the isolines of transparency were roughly parallel to the isobaths. The transparency was low (3 m in february and 8 m in August) if the shallow water less than 20 m depth in comparition to the higher values (10 m in february and 17 m in August) in the deeper water. The lowest transparency was found in winter. The transparency increased in spring and the highest transparency occurred in summer. The water becomes turbid in autumn. Suspended solid concentrations in winter are ranged from 28 to 130 $mg/{\ell}$, and from 8 to 60 $mg/{\ell}$ in summer. The seasonal variation of transparency seems to be mainly affected by resuspension of solid from the bottom. The amounts of suspended solid are large in winter due to the vertical convection by cooling effect and tubulence by the strong wind, and small in summer due to the strong stratification and weak wind.

  • The antioxidative and antimicrobial activity were carried on the Chopi(Zanthoxylum pipperitum) extracts by six kinds of solvents in order to find out new natural food additives. Six solvents were used methanol(MeOH), n-hexan(hexane), chloroform$(CHCl_3)$, ethylacetate(EtOAc), buthanol(BuOH), and water(water) and methanol extract(MEex), hexan extract(HEex), chloroform extract(CHex), ethylacetate extract(EAex), and buthanol extract(BUex), water extract(WAex). The antioxdative activities of them extracts were determined by peroxide value(POV), conjugated diene value(CDV) of corn germ oil storaged for 30 days at $60{\pm}2^{\circ}C$. These extracts were added as 0.02, 0.1, 0.2% of each extracts and compared with ${\alpha}-tocopherol$, and BHT. The antioxidative activities of 0.02% extract were as follows in decreasing order BUex > WAex, BHT, MEex > HEex, EAex, CHex > TOC, and control. While, BUex and CHex among these extracts were shown to be had antimicrobial effects on the microorganism such as Escheria coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Psedomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Listeria monocytogenes. Finally to find out the preference of chopi we had made Yugwanzageon (a kind of shallow fried meat ball)by adding chopi powder. The result were similar to control(not added chopi powder) in case of 0.1% chopi adding Yugwanzageon.(p<0.05) Therefore it was thought to be possible that chopi powder was used Yugwanzageon preperation.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the irrigation intervals and the amount of suitable growing substrate needed to achieve the desired shallow-extensive green roof system during a dry summer in Korea. In terms of treatment, three types (SL, $P_6P_2L_2$, $P_4P_4L_2$) with varying soil mixture ratios and two types (15 cm, 25 cm) with varying soil depths were created. The results have been analyzed after measuring growth and soil water contents. The difference of growth by treatment was significant in terms of green coverage, height, leaf width and photosynthesis. In measurement of chlorophyll content, no difference was detected when measured against soil depth. According to the growth measurement of Zoysia japonica with respect to differing soil mixture ratios in the 15 cm-deep treatment, a statistical difference was detected at the 0.05 significance level in photosynthesis. In case of green coverage, height, chlorophyll content and leaf width, no statistical significance was observed. In case of the 25 cm-deep treatment, a statistical significance was observed in height and photosynthesis. In terms of green coverage, chlorophyll content and leaf width, no statistical significance was detected. In comparisons of soil moisture tension and soil water contents, the irrigation interval and amount were 8 days and 14.9 L in the SL (15 cm) treatment, respectively. The irrigation interval showed for 10 days a 1.3-fold increase, and the irrigation amount was 27.4 L 1.8-fold more than SL (25 cm), respectively. For $P_6P_2L_2$ (15 cm) treatment, the irrigation interval and amount were 12 days and 20.7 L, respectively. However, an irrigation interval under $P_6P_2L_2$ (25 cm) was for 15 days 1.3 times longer than $P_6P_2L_2$ (15 cm), and an irrigation amount of 40 L was 1.9 times more than that under $P_6P_2L_2$ (15 cm). In $P_4P_4L_2$ (15 cm) treatment, it was indicated that the irrigation interval was 15 days, and the irrigation amount was 19.2 L. It was not needed to irrigate for 16 days under $P_4P_4L_2$ (25 cm) treatment during the dry summer and the longest no-rain periods. The irrigation interval and amount under $P_4P_4L_2$ were 1.8-fold and 1.3-fold, respectively, more than SL treatment as affected by soil mixture ratio. Comparatively $P_4P_4L_2$ had more 1.3-fold and 0.9-fold in irrigation interval and amount more than $P_6P_2L_2$. Therefore, it can be noted that different soil depth and soil mixture ratios had a significant effect on the irrigation interval and amount.

  • In this study, two rectangular barges in close proximity were simulated to analyze the characteristics of motion responses due to hydrodynamic interactions. Using a numerical solution from DNV-GL SESAM, coupled stiffness matrix terms for these same FEM models were added to the multiple body modes in the surge direction. Potential theory was used to calculate the first order radiation and diffraction effects on the simulated barge models. In the results, the sheltering effect of the barges was not shown at 1.3 rad/s with hull separation of 20 m in transverse waves. The separation effect between the barges was more clear with longitudinal waves and a shallow water depth. However, sway forces were influenced by hull separation with transverse waves. The peaks for sway and heave motion and sway force occurred at higher frequencies as hull separation narrowed with longitudinal and transverse waves. Given a depth of 10 m, the sway motion on the lee side of a coupled barge made a significant difference in the range of 0.2-0.8 rad/s with transverse and oblique waves. Also, the peaks for sway force were situated at lower frequencies, even when incident waves changed.

  • The objectives of this study are to investigate the trace elemental and stable isotopic compositions of aragonitic mollusk shells, such as Gomphina veneriformis melanaegis, Mytilidae and Umbonium coastatum, from the eastern coast of Korean peninsula and Cheju Island, and to compare their variations with latitude, that is, the temperature of the ambient seawater at which the skeletons grew. The Mg compositions of Gomphina veneriformis melanaegis tend to decrease with increasing water temperature, whereas those of Mytilidae and Umbonium coastatum do not show any trend. Sr compositions of Mytilidae tend to increase with increasing water temperature, whereas those of Gomphina veneriformis melanaegis decrease. Fe compositions of Umbonium coastatum tend to decrease with increasing water temperature, whereas those of Gomphina veneriformis melanaegis increase. Fe compositions of Mytilidae do not show any trend with water-temperature variations. Ba compositions of all the skeletons do not show any trend with water-temperature variations. Cd compositions of Mytilidae and Umbonium coastatum do not show any trend with increasing water temperature, whereas those of Gomphina veneriformis melanaegis increase. Cu compositions of Gomphina veneriformis melanaegis increase with increasing water temperature, whereas Mytilidae and Umbonium coastatum do not show any trend. Pb compositions of Umbonium coastatum do not show any tend with increasing water temperature, but those of other skeletons increase. Zn compositions of Mytilidae tend to decrease with increasing water temperature, whereas those of Gomphina veneriformis melanaegis increase. Zn compositions of Umbonium coastatum do not show any trend with increasing water temperature. Estimated water temperatures from oxygen isotopic data of all the skeletons are higher than the range of water temperature of the shallow seawater of the East Sea and around Cheju Island. The oxygen isotopic compositions of all the skeletons are well clustered, but they do not show any trend with latitude. Therefore, this could reflect that the organisms may not have secreted their shells in oxygen isotopic equilibrium with ambient seawater due to vital effect. Thus, isotopic compositions of all the organisms in this study may not be suitable for paleotemperature estimate.

  • The objectives of this study are to investigate the trace (minor) elemental and isotopic compositions of calcitic skeletons, such as barnacle, echinoid, branching and encrusting calcareous algae and oyster, from the eastern coast of Korean peninsula and Cheju Island, and to compare their variations with latitude, that is, the temperature of ambient seawater at which the skeletons grew. Articulated and encrusting red algae are composed of high-Mg calcite (7-21 mol% $MgCO_3$). Echinoids are also composed of high-Mg calcite (7-15 mol% $MgCO_3$). Whereas barnacles are composed of low-Mg calcite (1-5 mol% $MgCO_3$). The Mg compositions of articulated red algae, barnacle and oyster tend to increase with increasing water temperature, whereas those of encrusting red algae and echinoid do not show any trend. Sr compositions of articulated red algae, echinoid and barnacle tend to decrease with increasing water temperature, whereas those of encrusting red algae and oyster do not show any trend. Mn compositions of articulated red algae and encrusting red algae decrease with an increase of water temperature, whereas those of echinoid and barnacle do not show any trend. Fe compositions of articulated red algae tend to decrease with increasing water temperature, whereas those of encrusting red algae and oyster increase. Fe compositions of echinoid and barnacle do not show any trend with water temperature variations. Ba compositions of echinoid and low-magnesium calcitic skeletons do not show any trend with water temperature variations. Ba compositions of articulated red algae tend to decrease with increasing water temperature, whereas those of encrusting red algae increase. Cd and Pb compositions of all the skeletons tend to increase with increasing water temperature. Cu compositions of encrusting red algae increase with increasing water temperature, whereas articulated red algae, echinoid, barnacle and oyster do not show any trend. Zn compositions of high-magnesium calcitic skeletons and low-magnesium calcitic skeletons do not show any trend. Estimated water temperatures from oxygen isotopic data of all the skeletons except for the barnacle arc higher than the range of temperature of the shallow seawater of the East Sea and around Cheju Island. The oxygen isotopic compositions of oyster and echinoid are well clustered, and they do not show any trend with increasing water temperature. Therefore, this could reflect that the organisms have not secreted their shells in oxygen isotopic equilibrium with ambient seawater due to vital effect. • This study is to evaluate the future climate change impact on turbidity water and eutrophication for Chungju Lake by using CE-QUAL-W2 reservoir water quality model coupled with SWAT watershed model. The SWAT was calibrated and validated using 11 years (2000~2010) daily streamflow data at three locations and monthly stream water quality data at two locations. The CE-QUAL-W2 was calibrated and validated for 2 years (2008 and 2010) water temperature, suspended solid, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and Chl-a. For the future assessment, the SWAT results were used as boundary conditions for CE-QUAL-W2 model run. To evaluate the future water quality variation in reservoir, the climate data predicted by MM5 RCM(Regional Climate Model) of Special Report on Emissions Scenarios (SRES) A1B for three periods (2013~2040, 2041~2070 and 2071~2100) were downscaled by Artificial Neural Networks method to consider Typhoon effect. The RCM temperature and precipitation outputs and historical records were used to generate pollutants loading from the watershed. By the future temperature increase, the lake water temperature showed $0.5^{\circ}C$ increase in shallow depth while $-0.9^{\circ}C$ in deep depth. The future annual maximum sediment concentration into the lake from the watershed showed 17% increase in wet years. The future lake residence time above 10 mg/L suspended solids (SS) showed increases of 6 and 17 days in wet and dry years respectively comparing with normal year. The SS occupying rate of the lake also showed increases of 24% and 26% in both wet and dry year respectively. In summary, the future lake turbidity showed longer lasting with high concentration comparing with present behavior. Under the future lake environment by the watershed and within lake, the future maximum Chl-a concentration showed increases of 19 % in wet year and 3% in dry year respectively.
