The paper aims to investigate the interactions between rule of law, economic growth and the shadow economy in 18 selected transition economies. This study uses annual data over the period 2002-2015 for 18 transition countries to estimate the effects of rule of law and other factors on the size of shadow economy. The transition country group is classified based on International Monetary Fund resources and is selected on the basis of the availability of data. The data examined in this research are derived from the World Bank, Worldwide Governance Indicators project and Working Paper from International Monetary Fund. This study employs GMM method. The results show that the economic growth indicators have negative and statistically significant impact on the shadow economy. Additionally, these results also reveal that in transition countries the size of shadow economy is negatively related to the quality of rule of law. However, the findings of this research also point out that there are positive relationships between inflation, public expenditure and the size of shadow economy. Hence the results from this study suggest that the size of shadow economy could be controlled by improving the effectiveness of rule of law and the growth of economy particularly in transition countries.

Tax is the main revenue of Government, so fighting tax evasion and sustainable growth have been the primary macroeconomic goals being pursued by every developing country, Vietnam included. The existence and development of the shadow economic sector are synonymous with the national budget losing out. In Vietnam, foreign direct investment projects do not promote economic growth and is also a sector that gives way to tax evasion. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of foreign direct investment, the quality of the informal institution on the size of the shadow economy in Vietnam, during the period 1991-2015. By applying the Autoregressive Distributed Lag approach and Toda and Yamamoto test, we found evidence to conclude that the quality of the informal institution harms the size of the shadow economy. The results of the causality test show that there is a unidirectional causality running from the shadow economy and the quality of the informal institution to foreign direct investment attraction in Vietnam. Political solutions need to be implemented carefully to counter the harmful effects of the shadow economy. Policymakers should adopt several economic policies to improve the 'human capital' and drive the shadow economy into the formal economy.

In this study, the theory and application of phase-shifting shadow moire topography is focused on the non-contact measurement of object surfaces for practical use in the field of production engineering. Shadow moire topography has been studied during last few decades in the area of the optical physics, and now its mathmatical theory has been established. Generally, in case of the classical shadow moire topography, the sensitivity is a few tenths of millimeter in best cases. Here we tried the application of phase-shifting method to the conventional shadow moire topography. But the reference grating and the deformed grating are mutually dependent because it is impossible to obtain uniform phase shifts on the whole Held. Therefore it is difficult to use a phase-shifting method in shadow moire topography. However, it was shown that constant phase-shifting was able to be measured by moving both the grating and light source. Finally we obtained a better result by using this procedure and applied the phase-shifting shadow moire to three dimensional object measurement.

Online games' environments have recently changed with developments of computer technique. Various factors such as respective for realistic expression, solidity, the quality of the material, shadow, should be considered. In these factors, shadow expression plays a important role for realistic one. A lot of repeated operation should be executed to provide shadow. In other words, realm division against a lot of dots to estimate objections and the degree of brightness should be divided. This paper provides effective methods to perform realistic shadow through mapping LOD of objections as shadow without drawing data to judge the realm of shadow for shadow creation.

Digital shadow puppet has traditionally relied on expensive motion capture equipments and complex design. In this paper, a low-cost driven technique is presented, that captures human pose estimation data with simple camera from real scenarios, and use them to drive virtual Chinese shadow play in a 2.5D scene. We propose a special method for extracting human pose data for driving virtual Chinese shadow play, which is called 2.5D human pose estimation. Firstly, we use the 3D human pose estimation method to obtain the initial data. In the process of the following transformation, we treat the depth feature as an implicit feature, and map body joints to the range of constraints. We call the obtain pose data as 2.5D pose data. However, the 2.5D pose data can not better control the shadow puppet directly, due to the difference in motion pattern and composition structure between real pose and shadow puppet. To this end, the 2.5D pose data transformation is carried out in the implicit pose mapping space based on self-network and the final 2.5D pose expression data is produced for animating shadow puppets. Experimental results have demonstrated the effectiveness of our new method.
Purpose In online delivery platforms, platform workers are required to perform both platform labor, which is compensated with immediate wages, and shadow work which is a kind of unpaid job to support the platform labor. Thus, the objective of this study is to empirically examine how platform workers' platform labor and shadow work affect their job burnout and their turnover intention in the online delivery platform context. Design/methodology/approach This study developed a research model by employing platform labor and shadow work to influence job burnout and turnover intention. This study also tested the model by partial least square techniques after collecting 169 cross-sectional data from food delivery riders in Korea. Findings This study found that both platform labor and shadow work affected platform workers' job burnout. In addition, the results showed that shadow work influenced their turnover intention while platform labor did not affect the turnover intention. Based on the results, this study contributed to relevant researchers who are interested in platform contexts by offering measurable constructs on platform labor and shadow work. In addition, this study could provide practitioners with practical implications on managing platform workers.
In computer graphics, shadows play a very important role as a hint of inter-object distance as well as themselves in terms of realism. To represent shadows, some traditional methods such as shadow mapping and shadow volume have been frequently used for the purpose. However, the rendering results are not natural since they assume the point light. On the contrary, an area light can render soft-shadows, but its computation is too burdensome due to integral over the whole light source surface. Many alternatives have been introduced, back-projection of occluder onto the light source to get visibility of light or filtering of shadow boundary by calculating size of penumbra. But they also have problems of light bleeding or ringing effects because of low order approximation, or low performance. In this paper, we describe a method to improve those problems using shadow atlas.

Shadow is a common physical phenomenon in natural images and may cause problems in computer vision tasks. Therefore, shadow removal is an essential preprocessing process for effective moving object tracking in video image. In this paper, we proposed the method of shadow removal algorithm using chromaticity, brightness distortion and direction of shadow candidate. The proposed method consists of two steps. First, removal process of primary shadow candidate region by using chromaticity, brightness and distortion. The second stage applies the final shadow candidate region to obtain a direction feature of shadow which is estimated by the thinning algorithm after calculating the lowest pixel position of the moving object. To verify the proposed approach, some experiments are conducted to draw a compare between conventional method and that of proposed. Experimental results showed that proposed methodology is simple, but robust and well adaptive to be need to remove a shadow removal operation.
Shadow removal plays a key role for the pre-processing of image processing techniques such as object tracking and detection. With the advances of image recognition based on deep convolution neural networks, researches for shadow removal have been actively conducted. In this paper, we propose a novel method for shadow removal, which utilizes self attention distillation to extract semantic features. The proposed method gradually refines results of shadow detection, which are extracted from each layer of the proposed network, via top-down distillation. Specifically, the training procedure can be efficiently performed by learning the contextual information for shadow removal without shadow masks. Experimental results on various datasets show the effectiveness of the proposed method for shadow removal under real world environments.
Despite various policies have been implemented to curb shadow education in Korea, it has continued to grow in recent two decades. This study investigates the expansion mechanism of shadow education focused on mobilization capabilities and market strategies of the suppliers. The success and failure of policy toward shadow education depends on how effectively it could block off the way by which the suppliers as the most important actors in politics of shadow education market mobilize consumers' anxieties. But shadow education policies have failed in two points. First, they have lacked honest intention to stop its proliferation. The Constitutional Court Decision Against Anti-Out-Of-School Classes Legislation of 2000 widened the windows of opportunity for the suppliers, and 5.31 educational reform of 1995 was neutral to their mobilization capabilities, though seemingly designed to control shadow education. This policy orientation, which reflected neoliberal Gesinnungsethik defective of Verantwortungsethik, stimulated shadow education to expand in that suppliers' mobilization capabilities were reinforced or remained intact. Second, shadow education suppliers have succeeded in mobilizing the desire and anxiety of potential consumers. To cope with government's policy including improving the qualities of public education, realignment of college entrance systems, and meeting the shadow education needs, they have developed various market strategies such as management of existing demands, creation of responsive demands, and squeezing out new demands. They have succeeded in nullifying policies by employing or mixing strategies with effect. Policy decisions in the future need to be made with reference to Verantwortungsethik, and be more cautious to socio-political contexts of Korea, to mobilization capabilities and market strategies of the suppliers in particular.
