Model pile tests are performed, first, to estimate donwndrag exerted on pile surfaces due to the settlement of surrounding soils, and, second, to evaluate the efficiency of the downdrag reduction methods such as the bitumen coating method and the method of the attachment of an enlarged base. Test results show that the downdrag forces may be expressed as 0.25(;effective overburden). Bitumen coating reduces the downdrag by more than 50 percent, and the enlarged base attachment method is also effective, whose effectiveness increases as the sixte of the base increases as expected. When the bitumen coating and enlarged base are both applied, the downdrag force is reduced as much as 90 percent. Finally, it is found that the quantity of the relative displacement between the pile and the surrounding soil downdrag is extremely small.

To suggest a modified shallow foundation design method which can be considered the scale effect of foundation on IGM(intermediate geomaterial) soil layer, the weathered soil layer that is uniformly formed up to 8m(2B) with over 50 N-value is selected and 3 times field loading tests are performed on several sized square-shaped shallow foundations with 30, 75, 150, 240 and 400cm in width respectively. Because the soil modulus of elasticity(Es) calculated by soil investigation and 1st field test(PBT) results showed an underestimated tendency, a modified correlation is required for the reasonable estimation of Es on the weathered soil. Also, the N-value was increased with an increasing in depth. However, the N-values around the test foundations showed the different values even though the foundations on the same level because the test site was arranged by excavation. Therefore, the more detail soil investigations are required for the each test foundations respectively. Since Es based on elasticity theory is determined by the stress distribution shape of the foundation and elasticity modulus of the soil, the scale effect considered pressure-settlement curve can be clearly derived from the correlation on stress distribution shape and the variation of soil elasticity modulus with depth. Therefore, the modified correlation will be suggested to estimate a reasonable Es on the weathered soil, and the scale effect considered shallow foundation design method is also developed based on the elastic theory and field tests in this research.

Vertical drains are commonly used to accelerate the consolidation process of soft soils, such as dredged materials. The installation of vertical drain provides a radial drainage path to water in the deposit soil in addition to the vertical direction. An estimation of time rate of settlement is considerably complicated when vertical drains are installed to enhance consolidation process of dredged material because the vertical drains are commonly installed before self-weight consolidation is ceased. In this paper, the vertical drain theory developed by Barron(1948) is applied to analyze the non-linear consolidation behavior considering radial drainage. The overall average degree of self-weight consolidation of the dredged soil under the condition that the water is drained in both radial and vertical directions is estimated using the Carillo(1942) formula. In addition, the Morris(2002) theory and the one-dimensional non-linear finite strain numerical model, PSDDF, are applied to analyze the self-weight consolidation in case of only the vertical drainage is considered. The new analysis approach proposed herein can simulate properly the time rate of the self-weight consolidation of dredged materials that is facilitated with vertical drains.

Currently in increasing number of urban tunnels with small overburden are excavated according to the principle of the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM). Successful design, construction and maintenance of NATM tunnel in urban area demands prediction, control and monitoring of surface settlement, gradient and ground displacement with high accuracy. Use of measured displacement for parameter determination has been researched over the years, and one geotechnical engineering principle has been formed as back analysis. In this paper, back analysis of a ground deformational behavior involving nonlinear behavior is discussed. It is of primary importance to make reliable prediction of deformational behavior for shallow tunnels in soft ground. However, predictions made often prove to be incorrect due to complexity of constitutive law and other relevant factors. Back analysis therefore becomes more important, for it may be used to interpret measured displacement to derive nonlinear material characteristics. The paper shows some example in which a deformational mechanism is studied in the light of inhomogeneous distrubution of Young's module, from which a logic is derived to identify two different types of nonlinear constitutive relationships.

Volume change of the dredged soils is composed of the volume loss of soil particle flowing over an outflow weir with water and settlement due to both the self-weight consolidation in reclaimed layer and the desiccation at the surface of reclaimed layer. In order to estimate the amount of soil particles flowing over an outflow weir with water, the evaluation procedure of loss ratio of the dredged soils is proposed in the present study based on the Marsal's modified breakage theory and the results of hydrometer analyses. To verify a validity of the proposed procedure, evaluated loss ratio is compared with results from the other existing methods. The model test results and those of field test were compared and analyzed. Also, the variation of soil loss ratio was examined through the model test in the lab.
In this paper, the consolidation efficiency and the equivalent diameter of the cross shaped drain are examined by using the laboratory test and the numerical model, and the results are compared with those of the band shaped drain. The equivalent diameter of the tested drains is back-calculated from the laboratory experiment and compared with those calculated from the formula suggested in the literature. The efficiency of the cross shaped drain is evaluated by using the 3-D flow program which was validated by the settlement-time test fill data. The results of laboratory test show that the equivalent diameter of the band shaped drain was close to the Rixner's formula and that of the cross shaped drain was fit to the following formula: $d_w\;=\; \\tarc{3}{4}.(b+t)$The results of the numerical analysis show that the cross shaped drain can reduce the consolidation time by 9-10% from that for the band shaped drain. The equivalent diameter obtained from the numerical flow model by using the field data is 3.5 times smaller than that obtained from the laboratory consolidation test.
An experimental study on step up filling method is carried out to reinforce the Yano method which is widely used to estimate volume ratio and self-weight consolidation settlement in reclamation area. This method considers actual reclamation construction in which dredged clay is continuously filled and rising of deposit height is presented as a result of volume decrease by height rising and self-weight consolidation. It measured the relationship between filling velocity and deposit rising velocity; calculated the total filling height which is needed to achieve the planned final deposit height, and its solid height and the time which is taken to finish the planned final deposit height; and on the basis of these calculated parameters, predicted the self-weight consolidation and volume change ratio in reclamation construction. Yano method is also used to predict the same conditions. 29.8% in self-weight consolidation, 31.1% in volume ratio, 40% in void ratio and water content is underestimated in Yano method compared to step up filling method.
In this study, a series of centrifuge tests were performed in order to observe the bearing capacity of waveform micropile, a new concept of micropile that uses a modified jet grouting process. A total of six models were considered, conventional micropile, jet grouted pile, and four different shapes of waveform micropiles. The test results indicated that the waveform micropile effectively contributes to the increase of the bearing capacity compared to the micropile without the shear keys. Among the waveform micropiles, the model that has a relatively small space between the shear keys showed the most significant improvement of load capacity. Additionally, the ultimate load capacities of all piles were compared using well-known estimation method. As a result, P-S curve method and total settlement method with 25.4 mm were considered suitable to account ultimate load for the waveform micropile.
A new manual of System of Health Accounts (SHA) 2011, was published jointly by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Eurostat, and World Health Organization in 2011. This offers more complete coverage than the previous version, SHA 1.0, within the functional classification in areas such as prevention and a precise approach for tracking financing in the health care sector using the new classification of financing schemes. This paper aims to demonstrate current health expenditure (CHE) and National Health Accounts of the years 1970-2014 constructed according to the SHA2011. Data sources for public financing include budget and settlement documents of the government, various statistics from the National Health Insurance, and others. In the case of private financing, an estimation of total revenue by provider groups is made from the Economic Census data and the household income and expenditure survey, Korean healthcare panel study, etc. are used to allocate those totals into functional classifications. CHE was 105 trillion won in 2014, which accounts for 7.1% of Korea's gross domestic product. It was a big increase of 7.7 trillion won, 7.9%, from the previous year. Public share (government and compulsory schemes) accounting for 56.5% of the CHE in 2014 was still much lower than the OECD average of about 73%. With these estimates, it is possible to compare health expenditures of Korea and other countries better. Awareness and appreciation of the need and gains from applying SHA2011 for the health expenditure classification are expected to increase as OECD health expenditure figures get more frequently quoted among health policy makers.
In this study, 3-D analyses were conducted while taking every construction stage into account. Then 2-D analyses were conducted which yield the same results with the 3-D results. The crown settlement normalized by the ultimate value was compared during the process to overcome the discrepancy caused by different dimensions. When a bench or a core is left uncut to give extra support to the face and eventually the whole excavation boundary, this extra supporting effect also has to be included in the analysis. In this study, this effect is also implemented in terms of the load distribution factor. When the length of the bench is very short compared to the diameter of the tunnel in such cases as in short bench cut or in mini-bench cut, the supporting effect of the face does not disappear even after the bench is completely excavated and supported since the face is still too close to the point of interest. The 4th load distribution factor was defined to stand for the advance of the face after the completion of the excavation cycle. The 4th load distribution factor turned out to be very useful in determining the load distribution factors when a tunnel is excavated by bench cut with various bench lengths under different initial conditions.
