Parallel tunnel settlement characteristics: a theoretical calculation approach and adaptation analysis

  • Settlement evaluation is important for shallow tunnels in big cities to estimate the settlement that occurs due to the excavation of twin tunnels. The majority of earlier research on analytical solutions, on the other hand, concentrated on calculating the settlement for a single tunnel. This research introduces a procedure to evaluate the settlement induced by the excavation of twin tunnels (two parallel tunnels). In this study, a series of numerical analysis were performed to validate the analytical solution results. Two geological conditions were considered to derive the settlement depending on each case. The analytical and numerical methods were compared, which involved considering many sections and conducting a parametric study; the results have good agreement. Moreover, a comparison of the 3D flat model and 2D (FEM) with the analytical solution shows that in the fill soil, the maximum settlement values were obtained by the analytical solution. In contrast, the values obtained by the analytical solution in the rock is more conservative than those in the fill. Finally, this method was shown to be appropriate for twin tunnels dug side by side by utilizing finite element analysis 3D and 2D (PLAXIS 3D and PLAXIS 2D) to verify the analytical equations. Eventually, it will be possible to use this approach to predict settlement troughs over twin tunnels.

  • An active application of concrete track is being expected for the future construction of Korean railroad. For the successful concrete track construction and design in earthwork areas, the residual settlement should be reasonably estimated using the proper method. The concrete track is extremely vulnerable to the damage of residual settlement. However, at the transition areas such as bridge approach, differential settlement will likely occur due to difference of stiffness, poor drainage and poor ground treatment. The maintenance is very difficult for excessive settlement on existing line, it is need to constrain the residual settlement in step of design. In this paper, it is performed the analysis of the residual settlement measured data, test results and reference to understand the residual settlement behavior of concrete track roadbed

  • In this study, SCP method was used by purpose to improve loose sand and soft clay that is drilled Sand Compaction Pile in underground. Settlement behavior of field analyzed through SCP method. When sand Compaction Pile drilled in clay, forming composite ground that foundation and Sand Compaction Pile behavior. According to SCP method can expect bearing capacity improvement, Settlement reduction, lateral flow protection. SCP increase the consolidation settlement of ground and it reduce settlement for that purpose increase liquefaction resistance, lateral Resistance. Because SCP had been widely used for sand. Area of Inchon-A by sand compose clay and silt to upper Ground and compose soft clay to under ground. After pre-loading, it measured settlement by extensometer and settlement extensometer that purpose of ground improvement with 13% in replacement ratio. The result analyzed settlement behavior is similar to Multi-layered Ground that it happened to elastic settlement at upper ground and to consolidation settlement at under ground.

얕은기호 침하의 확률론적 해석 (Probabilistic Analysis of Shallow Foundation Settlements)

  • 얕은기초의 침하해석에 관련된 토질정수, 하중 및 지층구조는 많은 불확실성을 내포하고 있어 확률적 특성을 고려한 해석이 필요하다. 본 연구는 Monte Carlo Method를 이용하여 독립후팅들로 구성된 얕은기초의 침하에 관한 확률론적 해석을 하였다. 변수의 불확실성을 고려하기 위하여 토질정수와 하중은 정규분포의 확률변수로 가정하여 독립후팅의 침하평균 및 변동계수를 구하고 각 독립후팅의 침하도 정규분포하는 것으로 가정하였다. 또한 지반내에 존재할 수 있는 연약토질 포켓 (soft soil pocket)의 확률을 고려한 각 독립후팅의 침하는 Markov process를 따르는 것으로 하였다. 이와같은 각 변수들의 변화에 따라 최대침하와 부등칭하의 허용한계 초과확률에 대한 민감도분석을 하였으며, 얕은기초의 침하해석은 각 변수의 불확실성과 지반조건을 고려하는 것이 타당하다고 판단된다.

테르자기 압밀이론을 이용한 최종압밀침하량에 관한 신뢰성 해석 (Reliability Analysis of Final Settlement Using Terzaghi's Consolidation Theory)

  • 본 연구에서는 고베 공항 해저 충적 점토를 대상으로 한 신뢰성 침하 해석을 위해 각종 입력 물성치의 불확실성을 확률 통계 이론에 근거하여 조사하였고, Terzaghi 압밀 방정식을 목적 함수로 AFOSM 법을 적용하여 파괴 확률을 정식화하였다. 신뢰성 해석 결과, 목표침하량을 평균침하량 ${\pm}10%,\;{\pm}25%$로 설정한 경우, 발생확률은 각각 30~50%, 60%~90%로 나타났다. 이는 대상 지반의 확률변수의 변동계수가 과거의 연구보고 범위 내에 있음을 고려할 때, 목적함수로 Terzaghi 압밀방정식을 이용한 경우 침하량의 허용 오차 범위는 평균침하량 ${\pm}10%$가 적절할 것으로 사료된다. 또한, 감도 분석 결과 해석에 크게 영향을 미치는 인자는 압축 계수, 모델, 압밀 항복 응력의 불명확성으로 나타났다. 이는 정밀도가 높은 사전 침하량의 예측을 위해서는 현장의 응력 변형 조건을 충실하게 반영한 시험을 수행하여 신뢰도가 높은 물성치를 구하는 것이 매우 중요한 것임을 설명한다.

항타 및 매입말뚝의 하중-침하량 곡선의 분석 (Analysis of Load-Settlement Curves in Driven and Embedded Piles)

  • 매입말뚝공법으로 시공된 말뚝의 거동은 항타말뚝의 그것과는 다르고 또한 여기서 얻어지는 하중-침하량 곡선의 특성도 다름에도 불구하고 이에 대한 기본적인 고찰없이 항타공법에서 적용해 왔던 허용하중 결정방법을 그대로 매입말뚝공법에도 준용하고 있다. 국내의 관련기준에 의하면 허용지지력을 결정하는 방법들이 기준마다 서로 다르고 또한 적용 안전율도 차이가 있어 서로 상충되는 면이 있다. 본 논문에서는 106개 말뚝의 정재하시험을 통해 얻어진 하중-침하량 곡선을 분석하고 이들 결과를 공법별로 비교하였다. 분석결과 일정한 곡선을 기준하여 제시된 각종의 수학적 기법들은 허용지지력을 결정하기 위한 적절한 방법이 아님을 알 수 있었다. 또한 분석결과를 바탕으로 적절한 허용하중 판정방법 및 적용안전율을 제안하였다.

  • Waste body settlement is an important aspect of management of landfill sites both during the operational and the post-closure phases. Settlement in landfill waste is caused by combination of load, creep and biodegradation induced effects. In this paper, settlement characteristics of closed waste landfill were studied by analyzing in situ measured data and computer simulation technique. Techniques for the analysis of load-induced and creep settlement, and for their implementation, can be adapted for landfill waste. The estimate of settlements from models shows a increase according to time.

Excessive Settlement Back-Analysis of Railway Embankment on Soft Soils during Service

  • This paper presents case history of railway embankment excess settlement on soft clay during service in southern region of Korea. A lot of field observations show that the measured settlements are a lot larger than settlements actually calculated in this area. Back analysis is carried out to verify the soil parameters which are intended to investigate in the subsurface exploration phase and later in a laboratory test program. Recommendations and causes for the engineering practice are suggested to review the determination of excess settlements and, consequently, to improve the settlement prediction. This enormous discrepancy is due to the passing over secondary consolidation, and the design filling did not meet to real construction filling. Immediate settlement could be subsidiary factor of excess settlement.

팽이기초공법(Top-Base Method)의 하중-침하량 분석 (Load-Settlement Characteristics of Concrete TOP-BASE Foundation on Soft Ground)

  • A new foundation type which is called Top-Base method has been used frequently in engineering practices in Korea. In this study, the settlement behavior of concrete Top-Base foundation on soft ground is investigated since the consolidation settlement of the embedding depth and the effect of footing dimensions are not included in current Korean criterion (2007). To obtain detailed information, the model tests of the Top-Base foundation are performed using the PLAXIS 3D finite element analysis. It is shown that in-situ measurements and finite element analysis of the behavior of foundations indicate that consolidation settlement is reduced up and bearing capacity of the foundation increases up to 50%~100%, compared to the primary non-treated ground. Based on this study, it is found that the Top-Base foundation prevents the lateral deformation of soft ground and reduces its negative dilatancy to the surface settlement, and that the foundation creates rather uniform stress distribution under it to increase its bearing capacity. It is also found that the total settlement of Top-Base foundation was highly dependent on the consolidation settlement and footing configurations.

  • In this study, a composite behavior of stone columns reinforced in soft ground, Sabkha, have been evaluated by a series of field measurements and numerical analysis. Field loading tests were performed to verify the effect of the composite ground reinforced by stone columns in Kayan, Saudi. The settlement measured in the field test was compared with the settlement calculated by the Priebe method and the numerical analysis using ABAQUS. It is found that the settlement estimated using the Priebe method significantly overestimated the settlement measured in the field test. In addition, it is confirmed that consideration of confinement effect exerted by surrounding stone columns in a numerical simulation is indispensable to estimate the settlement of composite ground.
