  • Over the past three decades, services have become the largest part of most industrialized nations' economies but it is the least-studied part of the economy. One approach is to develop a general theory of service with well-defined questions, tools, methods, and practical implications of society. The purpose of this study was to propose a service systems model to systematically approach a service research. For this purpose, we conducted literature review about business model and extant service systems researches. Based on a literature review, we propose a service systems model that comprises value proposition, participants, shared information/knowledge, organizational capability, value network, and technology. Implications for practice and recommendations for additional research were discussed.

  • 서비스 과학(Service Science)은 경영과 경제, 공학분야가 상호 연동하면서 서비스를 인식하는 새로운 응용분야이다. 서비스 시스템은 전통적인 소프트웨어 시스템과 같은 자동화된 기능을 제공하면서, 동적인 컨텍스트 인식 및 분석과 이를 기반으로 한 의사 결정이 적용되어 더욱 지능적인 기능을 제공한다. 전통적인 소프트웨어 개발 접근법은 서비스 요구사항을 모델링하고 서비스 시스템을 설계하는데 비효율적인 부분이 있다. 따라서, 서비스 시스템을 개발하기 위한 효과적이고 체계적인 설계 방법론이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 전통적인 소프트웨어 시스템과 서비스 시스템의 특징을 비교함으로써 서비스 시스템의 특징을 도출한다. 그리고, 서비스 시스템을 설계하기 위한 프로세스를 아키텍처, 컴포넌트, 워크플로우의 측면에서 제안하고, 생활 보조 시스템 (Living Assistance System)의 한 분야인 응급 상황 처리 시스템의 설계과정에 적용한다. 제안된 프로세스로 전통적인 소프트웨어 시스템 설계에서 서비스 시스템 설계로의 이동이 효과적으로 진행될 수 있다.

  • The automotive industry tries to provide infotainment systems to emerging automobiles. Since the infotainment systems require various peripheral devices and network connectivity, legacy operating systems such as Linux and Windows can be much preferred due to its plentiful device drivers and multimedia applications while the operating systems following OSEK standard are used for automotive electronic control units. Thus it is highly desired that the system software supporting infotainment applications can be portable over different legacy operating systems providing unified programming interfaces. The majority of legacy operating systems support POSIX interfaces for application development. MOST is an automotive network standard for infotainment systems. Network Service defines the protocol stacks for MOST control data, which is essential to implement infotainment applications over MOST. In this paper, we suggest a POSIX-based Network Service so that we can utilize legacy device drivers and applications for automotive infotainment systems. We measure the performance of the POSIX-based Network Service and show that its overhead is not significant.

Web-based Information Systems and Service Quality of IS Department

  • As growth of the web-based applications, the requirements of the users who have been very familiar to the web-based user interfaces and customer-oriented services on the Internet would become more knowledge-intensive and higher technology involved in a more convenient and polite way of service delivery. Therefore, the service quality of information system department should be considered as a very important factor influencing success of information systems. The objective of this study is to provide the relationship between service quality of IS department and its impacts such as use, user satisfaction and job performance. For this purpose, we provide a research model for it and test it empirically for the users of the corporate portal in one of main telecommunication service providers in Korea. In result, our model with satisfiable validity and reliability shows not only importance of IS departments' service quality but also two-faced characteristics of service quality. That is, while technical competence which means with knowledge and expertise of IS department staffs is more related with user satisfaction on information systems, personal service which means the way and manner of service delivery is more related with use of it.

학교급식의 운영 현황 및 실태 조사 (School Food Service in Korea: Investigation of the Operation and Management Systems)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the operation and management systems of the school food services in Korea and to provide useful data for improving the quality of the school food services. This study was conducted in school food service operations nationwide using a written questionnaire. The questionnaires were mailed to the dieticians of three types of school food service systems-conventional, commissary, and joint-management. Of the 660 schools that participated in this study, the responses from 212 conventional system, 212 commissary system and 200 joint-management system services were selected for analysis. Statistical analysis was performed utilizing the SAS/Win 6.12 program so as the provide a descriptive statistics. The main results of this study can be summarized as follows: The average number of meals served per day was 1014, 738 and 695 in the conventional food service, the commissary food service and the joint-management flood service systems, respectively. Over half (58.9%) of food service facilities were utilizing computer programs for their operations. Most of the commissary flood service systems (52.4%) had a satellite school and served a maximum of 2000 meals per day. In most of the joint-management food service systems (87.1%), the number of food service schools managed was two and a maximum of 3330 meals were sewed. Only one dietician was posted irrespective of the school food service system. The mean hours of work by the dietician per day was 8.9, 8.6 and 8.6 in the conventional food service, the commissary flood service and the joint-management food service systems, respectively. The principal work functions of cook personnel were cooking and cleaning.
