  • This paper empirically investigates the impact of winning a service quality award on the market value in Korea. We estimates the mean "abnormal" change in the stock prices of sample firms when information of winning a service quality award was publicly announced. To access the validity of the research question, this paper employed collected 47 firms data that received the Korean Service Quality Awards so far. Event study methodology was used to analyze the effect of Korean service quality awards. The findings are as follows; The average abnormal returns on the event date are not significant at the 0.05 level which means that the receiving Korean Service Quality Awards has no influence on the firms' market value. On the other hand successive awarded firms have an increasing effect on the market value and it is significant at the 0.05 level. Furthermore, the results show that the factors of firm size such as firm's total assets are critical to vary the firms' abnormal returns. There might be some limitations in this study. The most obvious problem is the limitation of sample size. Although 518 sample cases were found during the period from 2000 to 2008, most of the cases were deleted according to the sample criteria. We are expecting the future research with more data and more precise results. Furthermore, our research consider the only two service award institutions even though there are several different service award authorities in Korea. It is needed to expand the research scope and range to adopt the various service award institutions for the future work.

  • In this paper, we review and classify shopping information services for electronic commerce in Korea. Shopping information services for electronic commerce can be divided into shopping mall information service and product information service. Shopping mall information service simply shows and suggests information on the shopping malls that it has in its data store. But product information service provides information about the items of the shopping malls the service has and therefore gives more powerful and convenient interfaces to users. Cutting-edge product information services can perform online comparison shopping facility, which searches and compares the items what the users want on the reasonable basis of economical criteria, such as price. Books, CDs, and Personal Data Assistant(PDA)s are the products of which the specification is clear enough to be described on the Web. And the comparison of the products by the information service is performed on the basis of "price" of the product item. The approach to design and implement product information service can be divided into two categories. The one is an application of data warehousing mechanism, which stores the product information on the regular basis of time and provide it when the users query over the Web-database gateway. The other approach is a shopping agent mechanism, which stores information on "how to shop" and the shopping agent collects the information of product items just after users query about the product and provide the information in real time or notify them by alerting service. Thirty nine shopping information services are compared and classified in this paper and they are extracted from "Naver" and "Yahoo! Korea". The final result shows that most services are just a simple shopping mall information service in growing stage, product information services with data warehousing are lack in product ontology in middle stage, and that product information services with shopping agent are in early stage.

  • The focus of this research is to investigate which factors are important for the adoption of mobile service and the moderating effects of service types such as hedonic and utilitarian service between those factors and the adoption of mobile service. The empirical results based on the data gathered from 169 users of mobile games and finance service showed that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and trust had significant impacts on the adoption of mobile service whereas social influence did not. • Website service quality is widely accepted as one of the key determinants of online business success. Several studies identified key factors that determine the website service quality factors appropriate for online business environments. A convention and visitors bureau (CVB) website is a service portal that delivers information online about a destination so users can develop an overall image of the location. CVBs struggle to deliver positive destination images because the competition among destinations to host conventions is intense. In spite of the important role of CVBs and the beneficial spillover effect of CVBs, there are few studies available reporting on the unique service qualities of a CVB website. The primary purpose of this study was to examine the determining factors that are appropriate for CVB websites from the meeting planners' perspective. The research questions arc: What are the determining factors of service quality of a CVB website? Do the determining factors of CVB website service quality positively influence meeting planners' satisfaction? The new conceptual framework was developed from a variety of destination marketing and Internet marketing concepts: e-servicescape management, web community network, Internet service encounter management, and online system quality. Empirical results indicate that three of the four factors, that is, e-servicescape, web community network, and online system quality are important determinants in evaluating CVB website service quality. The findings also show that three determinants have significant and positive influence on meeting planners' satisfaction. The findings from this study will provide meaningful advice for CVB website quality management. To enhance the CVB website service quality and satisfaction level of meeting planners, these three determinants' should be considered of the utmost strategic importance and priority.
