  • This paper was to determine the feasibility of controlling subsynchronous resonance(SSR) by the fast modulation of series compensation capacitors. The presence of subsynchronous currents in the system was detected by a subsynchronous relay which was modeled by the transient analysis of control systems (TACS) in the electromagnetic transients program (EMTP). The capacitor segments were switched by bi-directional thyristor swtiches. The paper proved that effective control of SSR can be obtained only by the detuning of the system and the removal or blocking of subsynchronous energy from the system.

  • The effect of dynamic recrystallization during hot forming process was implemented to a commercial FEM code by conditioned remeshing and remapping of sate variables. A datum strain for stress compensation was determined as a strain for maximum softening rate and was able to be formulated as a function of critical strain f($\varepsilon$). The validity of remapping criterion was examined by a series of mechanical tests and microstructural observation. The application of suggested datum resulted in better estimation of load-stroke during forging processes.

  • In practice, not only the load current but also the load voltage may contain asymmetric and harmonic components. Instantaneous power using p-q theory is analyzed to have compensation of reactive power, harmonics and asymmetry at the same time. In this paper, the limitation of p-q theory by using only shunt or series active filter is analyzed. A new scheme is proposed to solve the above issues.

  • The paper describes the formulation of state matrix equations from the linearized multi-machine power system including network dynamics and the application of IEEE First Benchmark Model. The eigenvalues of IEEE First Benchmark Model are investigated not only by changing the compensation of series capacitance at no-load conditions, but also by varying the generator loading at fixed compensation of capacitance. In addition, the pure electrical self-excited mode is also examined by an eigen analysis and time domain simulation.

  • This paper presents a new control scheme for a Dynamic Voltage Restorer(DVR) system consisting of series voltage source PWM converters. The control system is designed using differential controllers and digital filters to transfer the faulted ac source voltage to a d-q model and to separate the positive and negative sequence component for individual compensation. The performance of the presented controller and scheme are confirmed through simulation and actual experiment.

  • Under-voltage and over-voltage are the big problems in submarine distribution system. To solve that problems, integrated PV with voltage compensation method is proposed in this paper. This paper describes a simple method for controlling the series connection converter while the shunt connection operates as a back-up for sensitive load and verified by the PSIM software.

  • The series connection of power switching semiconductor elements is essential when a high voltage converter is made, so researches are being conducted to further develop this technology. In the series connection of power switching semiconductor elements, the main problem is that simultaneous conduction at turn-on and simultaneous blocking at turn-off together with voltage balancing are unattainable because of the difference of their switching characteristics. In this paper a novel series connection algorithm is proposed, which can implement not only the synchronization of the points of turn-on and turn-off time but the dynamic voltage balancing in spite of the difference of each switching characteristics. The proposed method is that the compensated control signal is attained from the voltage feedback signal and applied to the series-connected power transistors independently. Computer simulation and experimental results verify its validity.

  • It is difficult to predict non-stationary or chaotic time series which includes the drift and/or the non-linearity as well as uncertainty. To solve it, we propose an effective prediction method which adopts data preprocessing and multiple model TS fuzzy predictors combined with model selection mechanism. In data preprocessing procedure, the candidates of the optimal difference interval are determined based on the correlation analysis, and corresponding difference data sets are generated in order to use them as predictor input instead of the original ones because the difference data can stabilize the statistical characteristics of those time series and better reveals their implicit properties. Then, TS fuzzy predictors are constructed for multiple model bank, where k-means clustering algorithm is used for fuzzy partition of input space, and the least squares method is applied to parameter identification of fuzzy rules. Among the predictors in the model bank, the one which best minimizes the performance index is selected, and it is used for prediction thereafter. Finally, the error compensation procedure based on correlation analysis is added to improve the prediction accuracy. Some computer simulations are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In recent years, since more and more diode rectifiers with smoothing dc capacitor are used in electronic equipments, household appliances and ac drives, harmonics generated by these loads have become a major issue. In addition, 3-phase 4-wire system is widely employed in distributing electric energy to several office building and manufacturing plants. This systems show excessive currents in the neutral. These neutral currents are fundamentally third harmonic, and their presence is tied to wiring failure, elevating of neutral potentials, transformer overheating, etc. In response to the concerns, this paper proposes a series active power filter scheme based on direct compensating voltage extraction method and the advantage of this control algorithm is direct extraction of compensation voltage reference without multiplying gain. Therefore, the calculation of the compensation voltage reference will becom much simpler than other control algorithm. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, a prototype active power filter is built and some experiments are carried out.
