  • As various genome projects have produced enormous amount of biosequence data, functional sequence analysis in terms of tile nucleic acid and protein becomes very significant. In functional genomics and proteomics, the functional analysis of each individual gene and protein remains a big challenge. Contrary to traditional studies, which regard proteins as not components of a whole protein interaction network but individual entities, recent studies have focused on examining functions and roles of each individual gene and protein in view of a whole life system. In this regard, it has been recognized as an appropriate method to analyze protein function on the basis of synthetic information of its interaction and domain modularity. In this context, this paper introduces the PIVS (Protein-protein interaction Inference & Visualization System), which predicts the interaction relationship of input proteins by taking advantage of information on homology degree, domain modules which input sequences contain, and protein interaction relationship. The information on domain modules can increase the accuracy of the function and interaction relationship analysis in terms of the specificity and sensitivity.

  • EL CVn-type eclipsing binaries are composed of a massive A-type main-sequence primary star and a hotter B-type secondary one. These are worthy of particular attention because the secondary stars are rare objects to be extremely low-mass white dwarf precursors (ELM proto-WD) with the mass of ${\leq}0.2M_{\odot}$, evolving to higher effective temperatures and higher surface gravities. A few of them were discovered to show multi-periodic pulsations in one or both components. We monitored one of these rare and interesting objects, J0247-25 (=1SWASP J024743.37-251549.2), at two KMTNet sites of SAAO in South Africa and SSO in Australia. The observations were performed with the KMTNet 1.6m telescopes and pre-science 4K CCD cameras during the system test run from July to November 2014. Using the photometric data obtained for a total of 23 nights, we constructed well-defined eclipsing light curves in B/V-bands and derived absolute parameters (mass and radius, etc.) of each binary component. After subtracting model eclipsing curves from the data, we detected seven frequencies with 33~53 cycles per day (c/d) and identified them to be Delta Sct-type pulsations originated from the A-type primary component. Five frequencies were turned out to be excited by rotational splitting of non-radial pressure modes, enabled us to investigate rotational properties. We could not detect any frequency higher than 100 c/d, implying that pulsation amplitudes of the proto-WD secondary decrease greatly.

  • This research regards that experiencing certain space according to looking through sensations of body will finally make visual perceptional experience to happen. Our bodies incorporate sensible experience along with interactions with surrounding environment while making movements. The analysis of Seongyojang in Gangleung through top and bottom, depth, movement and experience space which are Merleau Ponty's phenomenological space elements has led to the following conclusions. First, the up and down directivity inherent in Seongyojang has different directions in movements by the axis of plane. Second, the depth by the correlation between things and bodies shows the interactions with things and the depth of space rendered by the servants' quarters of '一字形' and the overlapping effect from the movement between buildings can be seen and felt. Third, mobility is focused on the surroundings for the movements of body and thing. Fourth, the experienced space remains as what it is and is experienced through the experience of traditional cultures. The temporality where the past and the present subsist is given with the application of the modern living pattern in the traditional space. That is, the space from the point of phenomenological view makes the visual-perceptual experience possible through the senses of body, with which the space is experienced and sensed. In other words, the space from the phenomenological viewpoint makes visual-perceptual experience possible through the senses of body so that the space may be experienced and perceived. Through this study, a new viewpoint toward Korean traditional space is expected to be discovered.

  • This research is intended to suggest some reference materials for the future planning of floating hotel, by reviewing the concept of floating hotel and analyzing the realized and planned ones through the search of related documents and homepages. Floating hotel can be defined as a building for living/recreation/work/entertainment with floating system on water, but without navigation tool. In terms of sequence, the River Kawi Jungle Rafts Resort was built in 1976, Four Seasons Hotel in 1988, and Salt & Sill in 2008. Floating hotels are various in scale(height) and size(room numbers), and have basic, cultural, health & marina facilities. Architectural characteristics of sample facilities can be summarized as self-supporting of the facilities, environmentally friendly architectural planning, utilization of renewable energy, introduction of new plastic composite material, and provision of same view from all bedrooms by rotating the building.

  • This paper describes computer-aided forging design for rib/web shaped parts. In manufacturing a part by means of forging process, the first step is to design the forging. This is done by modifying the given machined part geometry according to the requirements of the forging process. Traditionally, this is done by experienced forging designers using empirical forging design guidelines. Generally, it would be neither possible nor practical to develop a system which encompasses the design of all types of forgings. Accordingly, forging design can be simplified by considering critical two dimensional cross sections of the machined part geometry. This system is composed of three modules(process variable decision module, forging design module and redesign module) and each module is carried out in regular sequence. In the process variable decision module, first of all, the undercut is checked and modified, and then deep recesses and holes difficult to forge are eliminated. Also parting line, forging plane, forging plan view area, forging weight and maximum size(maximum height or width)are determined. In the forging design module, the magnitude of various allowances, draft angle, minimum web thickness, corner and fillet radius are determined and then geometry modification is performed. Finally, since the design rules and databases used in this system are based on parameters of the forging geometry, such as the trimmed forging plan area, forging weight, forging maxmum size, plausible estimates need to be made for these parameters. Therefore, in the re-design module, the design process is iterated until a satisfactory forging is obtained.

  • The motivation of this study comes from the problem recognition that the headway of passing vehicle in signalized intersections can not be merely determined by departing sequence. Traffic speed and headway data of passing vehicles in signalized intersection have been obtained by using magnetic detectors(NC 97) and detecting program, and the data was analyzed. Without special treatment, the model established on passing behavior of vehicles was meaningless from statistical view point. Hence, special treatments such as filtering (upper 85% offensive driver driven vehicle's) and log scaling of data were carried on. With this new data, meaningful model (where coefficient of determination is 0.91) was established. This model explained the fact that vehicle headway in signalized intersection is affected by speed and headway of previous vehicle and speed of itself.

  • Bill of material (BOM), which structurally represents the relation among parts constructing a product, is usually created when enterprises start to develop a new product. And it is shown as various types of BOM according to business needs and usage such as eBOM (engineering BOM), gBOM (green BOM), mBOM (manufacturing BOM), pBOM (process BOM), etc. eBOM, generally called BOM and created in the design stage of the new product, includes the drawing information of parts in the view of product function. eBOM is extended to gBOM adding the material information of parts to cope with international regulations for environment. eBOM is transformed to mBOM, which includes manufacturing sequence of parts and adds some parts required to fabricate parts and to assemble the product. mBOM is also extended to pBOM adding the process information of each part and additional assembly processes. This study introduces the concept of multi-BOM covering eBOM, gBOM, mBOM and pBOM, and proposes an advanced way to manage product data using multi-BOM system. The multi-BOM system proposed is to manage their relations using transformation function of BOM and master information of all BOMs.

  • This paper deals with implementation of network for distributed control system of a humanoid robot ISHURO(Inha Semyung Humanoid Robot). A humanoid robot needs much degree of freedom structurally and much data for having flexible movement. To realize such a humanoid robot, distributed control method is preferred to the centralized one since it gives a compactness, modularity and flexibility for the controllers. For organizing distributed control system of a humanoid robot, a control processor on a board is needed to individually control the joint motor and communication technology between the processors is required to transmit its information within control time. The processor is DSP-based processor and includes CAN network on a chip. It shares the computational load such as monitoring the sensor information and controlling the actuator between each of modules. In this paper, the communication architecture is suggested and its message protocol are discussed including message structure, time consumption for transmission, and controller structure at the view of distributed control for a humanoid robot. All of the sequence are simulated with Matlab and then verified with real walking experiment by ISHURO.

  • A new macroscopic riverine red algal species, Lemanea manipurensis sp. nov. (Batrachospermales) is described from Manipur in northeast India. It has a sparsely branched, pseudoparenchymatous thallus with a single, central axial filament that lacks cortical filaments. Spermatangia occur generally in isolated, low and indistinct patches or form an almost continuous ring around the axis. Carposporophytes project into the hollow thallus cavity without an ostiole. The most striking morphological feature is the carposporophyte with very short gonimoblast filaments having cylindrical, narrow and sparsely branched sterile filaments, the terminal cell of each branch with a single, large, elongate carpospore. The widely distributed L. fluviatilis has spherical carpospores in long branched chains. Phylogenetic analysis of rbcL sequence data and comparison with other Batrachospermales clearly show that our specimens do not align with other species of Lemanea and Paralemanea investigated thus far. Five specific names attributed in previous literature (1973-2014) to Lemanea from Manipur, L. australis, L. catenata, L. fluviatilis, L. mamillosa, and L. torulosa are rejected until critical anatomical and molecular evidence is available for specimens from the Manipur river systems. Taxa referable to Paralemanea were not confirmed for India in this study. In view of the high demand for food and medical uses of L. manipurensis in northeast India, conservation measures are needed for its long term survival. The present paper constitutes the first combined morphological / molecular study on a freshwater red alga from India.

  • The performance of common spreading code scheme employing multiple-capture receiver is compared to that of transmitter-oriented (T/O) code division multiple access (CDMA) scheme in view of the possibility of collision-free transmissions and the effect of secondary multiple-access interference. For performance comparisons, secondary multiple-access interference is characterized for the common code scheme and the T/O CDMA scheme that assures perfectly collision-free transmissions. Throughput performance is then evaluated for these two schemes with direct-sequence spread-spectrum/differential-phase-shift-keying (DS-SS/DPSK) data modulation and forward-error-control coding (BCH codes) in the presence of an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). It is shown that when the number of radios is relatively large, the maximum normalized throughput is greater for the common code scheme than for the T/O CDMA scheme at a moderate signal-to-noise ration(SNR).
