  • This study aims deriving analysis the flow characteristic of kitchen hood system with using 3-D numerical analysis method and improving the system to expel pollutes more efficiently. This system is applied with $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model and using incompressibility viscosity flow range and boundary condition which are related to Bossinesq approximation following density variation in control volume. To understand the flow characteristics of four models, this study only focuses on velocity field, temperature field, and concentration field varying with followings whether separation plate is set or not and the shapes of separation plates. The quantity of air, speed of exhaust fan and temperature and concentration of heating source are concerned as constant values.

  • No-carrier-added holmium-166 (n.c.a 166Ho) separation is performed based on the results of separation conditions using stable isotopes dysprosium (Dy) and holmium (Ho) to minimize radioactive waste from separation optimization procedures. Successful separation of two adjacent lanthanides was achieved by cation-exchange chromatography using a sulfonated resin in the H+ form (BP-800) and α-hydroxyisobutyric acid (α-HIBA) as eluent. For the identification process after separation of stable isotopes, the use of chromogenic reagents alternatively enables on-line detection because the lanthanides are hardly absorb light in the UV-vis region or exhibit radioactivity. Four different chromogenic reagents were pre-tested to evaluate suitable coloring reagents, of which 4-(2-Pyridylazo)resorcinol is the most recommendable considering the sensitivity and specificity for lanthanides. Lanthanide radioisotopes (RI) were monitored for separation with an RI detector using a lab-made separation LC system. Under the proper separation conditions, the n.c.a 166Ho was effectively obtained from a large amount of 100 mg dysprosium target within 2 hrs.

  • This paper presents a procedure for the time-scale separation and a design method for the sub-optimal composite regulator and Kalman filter of the large-scale discrete stochastic system with two time-scale properties. Provided that the fast sub-system is asymptotically stable, the reduced-order regulator and Kalman filter for the slow sub-system with dominant modes is designed as a sub-optimal regulator for the system.

  • The reverse osmosis membrane housing(HY) was developed for excellent distribution of a feed solution, and the separation performance was compared with the commercialized Rochem(RC) system. The permeation flux of HY system was a little lower than that of RC system. On the other hand, the NaCl rejection ra4io was generally higher. Also, the permeation flux and rejection ratio for type A, B and C modules(disc plate and frame type) were measured using NaCl, sucrose and butanol solutions. The separation performance of type C module for NaCL and sucrose solutions was the most effective, and then those of type A and B were followed, respectively. However, the separation performance for butanol solution was type B, C and A order. The flux improvement ratio of type B to A increased as butanol concentration decreased or operating pressure increased up to 28 bar.

  • The superconducting magnetic separation system has been developing to separate the iron oxide scale from the feed water of the thermal power plant. The accumulation in the boiler lowers the heat exchange rate or in the worst case damages it. For this reason, in order to prevent scale generation, controlling pH and redox potential is employed. However, these methods are not sufficient and then the chemical cleaning is performed regularly. A superconducting magnetic separation system is investigated for removing iron oxide scale in a feed water system. Water supply conditions of the thermal power plant are as follows, flow rate 400 t / h, flow speed 0.2 m / s, pressure 2 MPa, temperature $160-200^{\circ}C$, amount of scale generation 50 - 120 t / 2 years. The main iron oxide scale is magnetite (ferromagnetic substance) and its particle size is several tens ${\mu}m$. As the first step we are considering to introduce the system to the chemical cleaning process of the thermal power plant instead of the thermal power plant itself. The current status of development will be reported.

  • The process of separating oxygen and nitrogen from the air is mainly performed by electric liquefaction, which consumes a lot of electricity, resulting in higher operating costs. On the other hand, when used for cold energy of LNG, electric power can be reduced compared to the electric Linde cycle. Currently, LNG cold energy is used in the cold refrigeration warehouse, separation of air-liquefaction, and LNG cold energy generation in Japan. In this study, the system using LNG cold energy and the Linde cycle process system were simulated by PRO/II simulators, respectively, to cool the elevated air temperature from the compressor to about $-183^{\circ}C$ in the air liquefaction separation process. The required amount of electricity was compared with the latent heat utilization fraction of LNG, the LNG supply pressure, and the LNG cold energy usage. At the air flow rate of $17,600m^3/h$, the power source unit of the Linde cycle system was $0.77kWh/m^3$, compared with $0.3kWh/m^3$.

  • This study focuses on the development of a curated separation system aimed at separating thorium ions as part of a recovery plan for managing the thorium radionuclide in the rare earth element (REE) processing industry. As a step towards advancing technology readiness, the separation system employs the electrosorption technique, which involves the migration and storage of thorium ions in the electrical double layers on the porous surface of a carbon-based electrode. Using a prototype electrosorption cell operated at an applied voltage of 1.0 V, the system successfully achieved a thorium ion recovery rate of 84.5 ± 0.29 %, with an impressive electrosorption capacity of 105.26 mg-Th/1 g-carbon. Notably, despite the presence of higher concentrations of REE as competing ions, greater selectivity towards thorium was observed which likely attributable to its larger ionic radius, higher electron affinity, and greater distribution coefficient. These findings highlight the efficacy of the curated separation system and its potential to balance between REE economic significance as well as a protection to the environment.

  • One of the major issues in current internet architecture is that it was not designed to support the user mobility. In order to overcome this restriction, in this paper, we propose an identifier/locator separation architecture which contain the overlay mapping system to store the identifier-to-locator mapping record. In addition, we design the mobility management scheme base on Identifier/Locator separation above for Furture Internet architecture. We then devise the analysis model to evaluate the signaling cost of our scheme. By conducting the simulation. we show that our scheme can operate with lower signaling cost than other schemes.

  • In this paper, a new acoustic echo cancellation approach based on the DUET algorithm and scaling factor estimation is proposed to solve the scaling ambiguity in case of blind separation based acoustic echo cancellation in a noisy environment. In hands-free full-duplex communication system. acoustic noises picked up by the microphone are mixed with echo signal. For this reason, the echo cancellation system may provide poor performance. For that purpose, a degenerate unmixing estimation technique, adjusted in the time-frequency domain, is employed to separate undesired echo signals and noises. Also, since scaling and permutation ambiguities have not been solved in the blind source separation algorithm, kurtosis for the desired signal selection and a scaling factor estimation algorithm are utilized in this rarer for the separation of an echo signal. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach yields better echo cancellation and noise reduction performances, compared with conventional methods.

  • This paper studied succinic acid recovery from organic acid mixture by using mono-polar membrane electrodialysis. Current efficiency, solute recovery efficiency, energy consumption, and separation factor were measured at various pHs and concentration ratios. The separation factor of succinic acid could be interpreted in terms of ionization degree, molecular weight, ionic conductance, average charge, and initial feed composition.
