An Analysis on Technology of Urban Railway Substation Insulation Diagnostic Program (도시철도 변전소 절연진단 프로그램 기술 분석)

  • This paper introduces an comprehensive monitoring and management program for implementation of a real-time monitoring system that monitors condition of urban railway AC/DC transformers, disconnecting switches, circuit breakers, regulators, and GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear). Especially, the system is applied to diagnose the overall condition of urban railway substations by sending acquired data through an OPC server to a database, effectively storing and monitoring conditions simultaneously. The above system is a management based system and is also applicable to small-scale systems.

  • Urban transit operation corporations perform repetitive work to investigate the EMU, electric multiple unit, by some fixed maintenance cycle. The quality of maintenance work usually depends on workers' know-how. Though some information to support the maintenance work is digitalized and provided to workers, it is not great help to them because of its non systematic structure. The information includes drawings, manuals, work results, work history, fault history, etc. The maintenance workers want to access the information anytime anywhere, and make an effect to promote the efficiency of maintenance for EMU. But it is difficult to achieve that without some structured information system which is able to use in work area. So we develop maintenance information system for EMU for about 4 years from 2002 to 2005. In this paper we present the configuration and characteristics of this system, and the results of the evaluation test. We install the system in two depots, Changdong and Jichuk, belonged to SeoulMetro to evaluate its efficiency and estimate its economic benefits.

  • In the recent railway construction, the concrete slab track is highlighted as the maintenance-free track and the main stream is moving from ballasted track to concrete slab track. However, in spite of many merits of concrete slab track, the higher noise generated from the concrete slab track is a troublesome question to solve and, by this reason, many studies on noise reduction of concrete slab track are carried out. The railway noise can be classified into the reflection noise emitted from wheel/rail contact and the structure-borne noise transmitted through railway structures. In this presentation, we would like to introduce an example of the successful reduction of structure-borne noise at track retrofitting to maintenance-free concrete slab track in elevated Changdong Station which was built with ballasted track on Rahmen structure.

  • This dissertation finds out trouble types and occurrence regions using the faulty statistics of nondestructive test items in rolling stock parts of the Seoul Metro and using mechanical test about defective and broken parts with broken surface observation, cutting examination about trouble region, hardness experiment and tensile test. Also this dissertation finds out cause of trouble and damage through observation of microscopic formation using metallurgical microscope and scanning electron microscope, residual stress measurement about welding parts and damage diagnosis about defective and broken parts. Moreover it will present the improved plan of nondestructive method about trouble and the removal method of defect and repair welding and find solutions of reliability in parts and preventive maintenance.

  • A lights-out detector, which helps the person in charge of maintenance make a quick judgment in the event of a failure of LED-type traffic lights, was explored/developed and installed/ tested, at Seoul Metro, after they developed a patented pilot product in 2005; and, a product improvement test was conducted to ensure reasonable maintenance of signaling facilities. Having better compatibility with existing circuit in use and displaying stable load current, the device makes the maintenance of lights-out detection and alert easier.

  • Pantograph is set on the roof of Subway. This plays the role of staying proper current on Subway when Subway is running or not. Pantograph includes Slider. Slider is most important part of Pantograph because this part is used to receive current from Contact Wire by dynamic interaction with Contact Wire. In general, material of Slider is steel, copper, or carbon alloy. Especially, SEOUL METRO uses Slider of sintered cualloy, but there is problem. This Slider causes over wearing during rainy season. We should reduce wearing between Contact Wire and Slider. Reducing this wear is most valuable technology in Subway system. I performed experiments to find out the best way that reduces the wear. I can find the best way as I change the rate of the alloy.

  • Seoul Metro is celebrating 32 anniversary this year and through developments over the years it is being evaluated as the 3rd in the world in operational sizes, the 4th in the world in facility sizes, it transports about 4 million passengers per day and it is now a vital public transportation means. However, the track maintenance organization and manpower structures along with technology cooperative office were led by unions that do not like changes and overshadows the trends of changes by expanding organizations and recruiting personnels and it is going against the current of times. Thus, it is time when a break point is required for breaking away from labor-intensive methods of the past that rely on hand works and vertical organizational structures. Therefore, this study investigates the states of national.international track maintenance operations and examines and analyzes the problems so that it can be utilized as base data for efficiently operating the organizations and maintenance works on track fields.

  • Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) insulator has a higher performance than porcelain. It is only used in domestic AC 25 kV electric railway system. Seoul Metro has developed DC 1500 V FRP insulator since 2008. FRP support insulator of flexible property is affected by the wind in tunnel. A wind tunnel test was carried out to measure influence on the insulator housing when the train passed by. The test results showed that the wind which is resulted from the passing train had a little impact on the FRP insulator shed movements.

  • In recently, our social is entering to service infinite competitive time., So If companys don't give satifactory and an impression customers, they don't exist. The Companies that operate railway are promoted(Seoul metro). The Korail, Seol metropolitan Rapid Transit Corperation, Incheon Rapid Transit Corporation), they are into a stronger competitor. So the service for customer is more inportant to improve the image and administration than before. Especially, station workers who work near the customer are important for cooperation image. But, there are only a few employees to operate the station like ticketing in railway station, There aren't reinforcement the service employees and expanse the utility system. especially, since the transportation card is introduced in 1996, the customers who use the T-Money card are increased. So the change of service system is necessary to provide a substantial service to customer. This paper derives the problems through analysising the operating system of station, and presents the improvement to provide substantial services to customer

  • In this paper, We studied optimum service model of passenger car monitoring system at limited wireless bandwidth subway and railway. High bandwidth is better if we need more services. But, high bandwidth requires more cost at tunnel of subway. More bandwidth make receive sensitivity to bad. We deduced best bandwidth of subway wireless transmission system reflecting the cost of installation and efficiency of system. Consequently, we decide efficient service model of passenger car monitoring system.
