This paper deals with power integration of large urban railway systems for improvement of regenerative energy utilization. The main idea of this paper is that the integration of railway power systems will increase efficiency through sharing regenerative energy. To verify the effects of this system, case studies for Seoul Metro Line has been performed. Where railway data of Seoul Subway Line 5 and Line 7 are used. In this work, the integrated railway system is modelled using Compaq Visual Fortran.

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a methodology of computing the relative efficiency of each decision making unit (DMU) by comparing it with other DMUs having similar input and output structure. In this paper, we compare the efficiency of Korean rail transit corporations using DEA. To do this, we design a DEA-AR/AHP model, and evaluate efficiency by comparing the subway operating agencies of six big cities. The analysis reveals that Seoul Metro and Seoul city railroad construction turn out to be the most efficient groups. The result of this research can provide helpful information for effective management in a domestic subway operating agency.

We need to make the standards of maintenance information for urban transit to reduce the cost to maintain the information and to share the information with maintenance workers. It is enable to do systematic maintenance for urban transit by using the information system based on the standardized information. In this paper we propose the major items to standardize and the methods to lay out the standard schemes to enable structured maintenance. We present the 4 items, bill of material, material classification, accident/fault classification, electronic document, to standardize. And we propose how to implement the information system for urban transit based on the standardized information. We describe the implemented information system in two parts; a rolling-stock and an infrastructure part. And also we describe the result of survey to evaluate the system installed at Seoul Metro and Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit.

Since Seoulmetro built the first line of electric railway at seoul 1974, the passengers of railway have been increased rapidly, and electric railway requires more electric power for the greater capacity of transport. It is important that we prevent the accidents related with the subway, because all systems of subway are constructed in artificial underground structure. Since the previous versions of the earth system were built to meet the old standards of the electric facility for the lightning, some accidents related with the DC earth fault are causing secondary damages to the electric equipments. So, the old grounding system must be improved, and new standards of grounding system are required. We compare the grounding systems of the domestic railway corporations and the accidents that are related with the grounding systems. And we give ideas to improve the grounding systems and present standards which are suitable to electric railway.

The blasting work to construct a subway in seoul, korea have often cased increased neighbor＇s complaints because of ground vibration. In order to prevent the demage to the stucture it was necessary to predict the level of blasting induced vibration and to determine the maximum charge weigh per delay with an allowable vibration level. The effect of blasting pattem, rock strength and different explosive on the blast-induced ground vibration was studied to determine the maximum charage weight per delay within a given vibration level. The blasting vibration equation from over 100 test data was obtained, V= K(D/W(equation omitted), where the values for n and K are estimated to be 1.7 to 1.5 and 48 to 138 respectively.

This study highlights the theme of human error of train drivers, conducting empirical analysis on the relationship between organizational culture, safety climates, safety behavior, and accident. The empirical test results based on questionnaires received from 223 train drivers working at A subway firm indicated that relationship conflict and psychological reward as the elements of organizational culture variables showed a significant positive effect on CEO philosophy, communication, and boss's leadership. And only boss's leadership showed a positive influence on safety behavior, which in turn showed a significant negative relationship with accidents.

With the global adoption of the reduction policy on greenhouse gas and environmental pollution, that is 'low carbon green growth', the central and local governments strive to increase their investments in railways in an effort to replace fossil fuels, and seek the ways to diversify and vitalize the tourism resources taking full advantage of the railway systems. Seoul metro has therefore launched 'A research on the development of the Bukhan mountain railway' for the establishment of the environmentally friendly tourism belt making good use of Mt. Bukhan., the only national park in the Seoul metropolitan area, with its picturesque scenery. This paper pursues the basic directions for the application scope of the relevant laws and regulations for the development of the mountain railways as part of our continuing effort to further 'A study on the development of the Bukhan mountain railway' along with the review on the project implementation policy pursuant to the applicable laws on private investment for social infrastructures.

The Seoul Metro has been playing a vital role in public transportation for last 35 years as the feet of 10 millions of Seoul citizens. It currently takes charge of over 45% of the national subway transit and transports 4 millions of citizens a day. The purpose of this study is to suggest a plan for crew members' working condition improvement and job satisfaction improvement which will lead to the finest quality of service to the citizens. We examined the working conditions of the crew members and surveyed crew members about the working conditions and the extent of job satisfaction. The results of our study can also be used as basic materials for building the road map to the management improvement.

Denim has been one of the most favored clothing item among young people regardless of regional difference. This study compared the styling of women's denim fashion in two Asian metro-cities, Seoul and Beijing, in order to understand how differ the fashion taste of both cities. Data was collected by taking photos of young women who wear denim clothing at the main streets of downtowns or famous shopping areas of both cities from the July of 2004 till the April of 2005. A total of 524 photos(Seoul 242, and Beijing 282) were put into content analysis. Results showed that there were several similarities and differences in denim styling between two cities in terms of the most widely worn denim items and the coordinate items, and the favored colors, silhouette, details of denim pants and the coordinate items. In Seoul, women favored denim look with little detail, fitted silhouette, and in more formal image. A few denim styles prevailed in each season which reflect current denim fashion trends. Meanwhile a wide variety of denim styles were found at Beijing without dominant denim trends, which means Beijing women put more emphasis on personal expression of their fashion taste instead of just following fashion trends.

In this study, the causes of human error were identified through the survey of the drivers of the three organizations: Seoul Metro, Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation, and Korail. It was started with the aim of finding and eliciting causes in various directions including human factors, job factors, and environmental factors. The Cronbach alpha value was 0.95 for the reliability significance of the stress-induced factors in the operational area. The significance probability for organisational factors was shown to be 0.82, and the significance of the sub-accident experience and the driving skill factors in operation was 0.81 In addition, the analysis results showed that stress-induced in the field of driving is higher than the human factors in the reliability analysis. The results of the analysis confirmed that the reliability of the organizational and operational stress-induced factors was higher than other causes. In order to reduce urban railroad accidents, this paper suggests a method for operating safe urban railroad through the minimization human errors.
