A Sensor Plug&Play Platform for Smart phone Sensor Accessories (스마트폰 센서 액세서리를 위한 센서 플러그앤플레이 플랫폼)

  • Recently, it becomes usual that several sensor accessories are attached to the USB port of smart phones. In this paper, we propose a sensor accessory plug@play platform for easing the attachment of it to the usb port in a smart phone. Sensor developers make sensor modules which obey the standard of sensor interface and write the device driver of it using the standard APIs. The sensor application for the smart phone is made using the web app style. The device drivers and sensor web applications are stored in the sensor web server. When a user plugs the sensor module into the usb port, the device driver and sensor web are retrieved automatically from the server and it is played. We believe that our platform activates the development of sensor accessories for smart phones.

Energy-Effective Low-Cost Small Mobile Robot Implementation for Mobile Sensor Network (모바일 센서 네트워크를 위한 에너지 효율적이고 경제적인 소형 이동 로봇의 개발)

  • In this paper, we describe an implementation of small mobile robot that can be used at research and application of mobile sensor networking. This robot that will constitute the sensor network, as a platform of multi-robot system for each to be used as sensor node, has to satisfy restrictions in many aspects in order to perform sensing, communication protocol, and application algorithms. First, the platform must be designed with a robust structure and low power consumption since its maintenance after deployment is difficult. Second, it must have flexibility and modularity to be used effectively in any structure so that it can be used in various applications. Third, it must support the technique of wireless network for ubiquitous computing environment. At last, to let many nodes be scattered, it must be cost-effective and small. Considering the above restrictions of the mobile platform for sensor network, we designed and implemented robots control the current of actuator by using additional circuit for power efficiency. And we chose MSP430 as MCU, CC2420 as RF transceiver, and etc, that have the strength in the aspect of power. For flexibility and modularity, the platform has expansion ports. The results of experiments are described to show that this robot can act as sensor node by RF communication process with Zigbee standard protocol, execute the navigation process with simple obstacle avoidance and the moving action with RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indicator), operate at low-power, and be made with approx. $100.

  • In this paper, we implemented the computer vision platform design with MEAN Stack through Raspberry PI 2 model which is an open source platform. we experimented the face recognition, temperature and humidity sensor data logging with WiFi communication under Raspberry Pi 2 model. Especially we directly made the shape of platform with 3D printing design. In this paper, we used the face recognition algorithm with OpenCV software through haarcascade feature extraction machine learning algorithm, and extended the functionality of wireless communication function ability with Bluetooth technology for the purpose of making Android Mobile devices interface. And therefore we implemented the functions of the vision platform for identifying the face recognition characteristics of scanning with PI camera with gathering the temperature and humidity sensor data under IoT environment. and made the vision platform with 3D printing technology. Especially we used MongoDB for developing the performance of vision platform because the MongoDB is more akin to working with objects in a programming language than what we know of as a database. Afterwards, we would enhance the performance of vision platform for clouding functionalities.

  • Wireless sensor networks are subject to highly heterogeneous system requirements in terms of their functionality and performance due to their broad application areas. Though the heterogeneity hinders the opportunity of developing a single universal platform for sensor networks, efforts to provide uniform, inter-operable and scalable ones for sensor networks are still essential for the growth of the industry as well as their technological advance. As a part of our work to develop such a robust platform, this paper presents the software architecture for sensor nodes with focus on our sensor node operating system and its configuration methodology. Addressing principle issues in its design space which includes programming, execution, task scheduling and software layer models, our architecture is highly reconfigurable with respect to system resources and functional requirements and also highly efficient in supporting multi-threading under small system resources.

  • As ubiquitous environment rapidly emerges due to the development of network and information communication technology, ubiquitous computing is being noticed as a technology that will take the lead in information technology industry of the future. To the end, the data recognized from each sensors, collected and processed need be transferred to applied service so that they may be used as data for providing sum to users. However, in reality as the definitions of metadata and platform for each sensor are not clear, approach from applied service for data use is difficult and there are limitations in transferring sensor measurement data of the applied service because of the difference of platform and protocol. In this paper, we designed sensor service technology language that expresses sensor and measurement data and describes the service though sensor data service. Also the researcher implemented a sensor data processing system that transfers sensor data to the applied service by using web service. The thesis will apply a reference model for standardization to guarantee mutual compatibility in exchanging sensor data through the system.

Fabrication and Characteristics of Micro Platform for Micro Gas Sensor with Low Power Consumption (마이크로 가스센서의 저전력 구동을 위한 마이크로 플랫폼의 제작과 특성)

  • A Micro platform for micro gas sensor consisted of micro heater, insulator, and sensing electrode on 2 ${\mu}m$ thick $SiN_x$ membrane. Three types of micro platforms were designed and fabricated with membrane sizes. Total size of micro platform was 2.6 mm by 2.6 mm. Measured power consumptions were 28 mW, 28 mW, and 32.5 mW for Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3. At this moment, temperatures of membranes on the platforms were $295^{\circ}C$, $297^{\circ}C$, and $296^{\circ}C$, respectively. Fabricated micro platform considered appropriate to apply for low power consumption micro gas sensor. Micro gas sensors were prepared by the sequence that $SnO_2$ nanopowder pastes were dropped on membrane of Type 1 platforms, dried in oven, heat-treated with micro heaters in platforms. One of the micro gas sensors was tested for gas response to 1157 ppm, 578 ppm, and 231 ppm of methane and 1.68 ppm, 0.84 ppm, and 0.42 ppm of $NO_2$.

Design and Implementation of IoT-Based Intelligent Platform for Water Level Monitoring (IoT 기반 지능형 수위 모니터링 플랫폼 설계 및 구현)

  • The main objective of this study was to assess the applicability of IoT (Internet of Things)-based flood management under climate change by developing intelligent water level monitoring platform based on IoT. In this study, Arduino Uno was selected as the development board, which is an open-source electronic platform. Arduino Uno was designed to connect the ultrasonic sensor, temperature sensor, and data logger shield for implementing IoT. Arduino IDE (Integrated Development Environment) was selected as the Arduino software and used to develop the intelligent algorithm to measure and calibrate the real-time water level automatically. The intelligent water level monitoring platform consists of water level measurement, temperature calibration, data calibration, stage-discharge relationship, and data logger algorithms. Water level measurement and temperature calibration algorithm corrected the bias inherent in the ultrasonic sensor. Data calibration algorithm analyzed and corrected the outliers during the measurement process. The verification of the intelligent water level measurement algorithm was performed by comparing water levels using the tape and ultrasonic sensor, which was generated by measuring water levels at regular intervals up to the maximum level. The statistics of the slope of the regression line and $R^2$ were 1.00 and 0.99, respectively which were considered acceptable. The error was 0.0575 cm. The verification of data calibration algorithm was performed by analyzing water levels containing all error codes in a time series graph. The intelligent platform developed in this study may contribute to the public IoT service, which is applicable to intelligent flood management under climate change.

Design of Navigation Filter to Improve Tracking Performance in Radar with a Moving Platform (기동 플랫폼 탑재 레이다 추적 성능 향상을 위한 항법 필터 설계)

  • As the radar mounted on a moving platform moves and rotates, the state of the radar's coordinate system also changes. At this time, in order to track target, the target's coordinates should be converted using the platform state measured from the sensor, and tracking performance may deteriorate due to causes such as sensor noise, communication delay, and sensor update cycle. In this paper, to minimize the degradation of tracking performance because of sensor error, we designed a navigation filter to estimate the state of the moving platform and analyzed the effect of improving tracking performance by applying the navigation filter through a simulation test. To design this navigation filter, three filter algorithms were applied and analyzed to confirm the effect of improving platform position and attitude performance for each filter, and the navigation filter designed by applying the highest performance filter algorithm was applied to a tracking simulation test. Finally we confirmed Improvement in tracking performance before and after applying navigation filters.

  • The rises of the life index quality together with the medical technology improvement lead to a longer life expectancy. Then a better health care program, especially for elderly, is needed. The common health problems facing those senior citizens are changed from acute diseases to chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension. Then u-Health takes center stage in medical industry. Although u- Health medical device manufacturers have been improving their instruments, these instruments still rely on proprietary technologies without fixed platform. Even if the interface has been provided by the manufacturer, there is no widely-accepted uniform data model to access data of various u-Health devices. IEEE 11073 is a standard attempting to unify the interfaces of all medical devices. In this paper we have proposed a conversion software platform that assures interoperability among medical devices for ubiquitous sensor network. This module uses in order to develop a standard platform of medical system.

  • Passenger safety is a primary concern of the railway system. However, dozens of people are killed every year when they accidently fall on to the track from the boarding platform. This is one of the most urgent issues to solve regarding the railway platform. The installation environment, and the blind area problems as well as maintenance and operating costs which are not efficient have to be looked at. To solve these problems, we propose a 3D laser radar sensor based monitoring system for the railway platform. This paper introduces an overview, the detecting method, and the interface with the signalling system in detecting a fallen passenger from the platform using the 3D laser radar sensor.
