S-FDS : a Smart Fire Detection System based on the Integration of Fuzzy Logic and Deep Learning (S-FDS : 퍼지로직과 딥러닝 통합 기반의 스마트 화재감지 시스템)

  • Recently, some methods of converging heterogeneous fire sensor data have been proposed for effective fire detection, but the rule-based methods have low adaptability and accuracy, and the fuzzy inference methods suffer from detection speed and accuracy by lack of consideration for images. In addition, a few image-based deep learning methods were researched, but it was too difficult to rapidly recognize the fire event in absence of cameras or out of scope of a camera in practical situations. In this paper, we propose a novel fire detection system combining a deep learning algorithm based on CNN and fuzzy inference engine based on heterogeneous fire sensor data including temperature, humidity, gas, and smoke density. we show it is possible for the proposed system to rapidly detect fire by utilizing images and to decide fire in a reliable way by utilizing multi-sensor data. Also, we apply distributed computing architecture to fire detection algorithm in order to avoid concentration of computing power on a server and to enhance scalability as a result. Finally, we prove the performance of the system through two experiments by means of NIST's fire dynamics simulator in both cases of an explosively spreading fire and a gradually growing fire.

Online correction of drift in structural identification using artificial white noise observations and an unscented Kalman Filter

  • In recent years the monitoring of structural behavior through acquisition of vibrational data has become common practice. In addition, recent advances in sensor development have made the collection of diverse dynamic information feasible. Other than the commonly collected acceleration information, Global Position System (GPS) receivers and non-contact, optical techniques have also allowed for the synchronous collection of highly accurate displacement data. The fusion of this heterogeneous information is crucial for the successful monitoring and control of structural systems especially when aiming at real-time estimation. This task is not a straightforward one as measurements are inevitably corrupted with some percentage of noise, often leading to imprecise estimation. Quite commonly, the presence of noise in acceleration signals results in drifting estimates of displacement states, as a result of numerical integration. In this study, a new approach based on a time domain identification method, namely the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF), is proposed for correcting the "drift effect" in displacement or rotation estimates in an online manner, i.e., on the fly as data is attained. The method relies on the introduction of artificial white noise (WN) observations into the filter equations, which is shown to achieve an online correction of the drift issue, thus yielding highly accurate motion data. The proposed approach is demonstrated for two cases; firstly, the illustrative example of a single degree of freedom linear oscillator is examined, where availability of acceleration measurements is exclusively assumed. Secondly, a field inspired implementation is presented for the torsional identification of a tall tower structure, where acceleration measurements are obtained at a high sampling rate and non-collocated GPS displacement measurements are assumed available at a lower sampling rate. A multi-rate Kalman Filter is incorporated into the analysis in order to successfully fuse data sampled at different rates.

Application of Urban Computing to Explore Living Environment Characteristics in Seoul : Integration of S-Dot Sensor and Urban Data

  • This paper identifies the aspects of living environment elements (PM2.5, PM10, Noise) throughout Seoul and the urban characteristics that affect them by utilizing the big data of the S-Dot sensors in Seoul, which has recently become a hot topic. In other words, it proposes a big data based urban computing research methodology and research direction to confirm the relationship between urban characteristics and living environments that directly affect citizens. The temporal range is from 2020 to 2021, which is the available range of time series data for S-Dot sensors, and the spatial range is throughout Seoul by 500mX500m GRID. First of all, as part of analyzing specific living environment patterns, simple trends through EDA are identified, and cluster analysis is conducted based on the trends. After that, in order to derive specific urban planning factors of each cluster, basic statistical analysis such as ANOVA, OLS and MNL analysis were conducted to confirm more specific characteristics. As a result of this study, cluster patterns of environment elements(PM2.5, PM10, Noise) and urban factors that affect them are identified, and there are areas with relatively high or low long-term living environment values compared to other regions. The results of this study are believed to be a reference for urban planning management measures for vulnerable areas of living environment, and it is expected to be an exploratory study that can provide directions to urban computing field, especially related to environmental data in the future.

  • Recent technological advances provide the opportunity to use large amounts of multimedia data from a multitude of sensors with different modalities (e.g., video, text) for the detection and characterization of criminal activity. Their integration can compensate for sensor and modality deficiencies by using data from other available sensors and modalities. However, building such an integrated system at the scale of neighborhood and cities is challenging due to the large amount of data to be considered and the need to ensure a short response time to potential criminal activity. In this paper, we present a system that enables multi-modal data collection at scale and automates the detection of events of interest for the surveillance and reconnaissance of criminal activity. The proposed system showcases novel analytical tools that fuse multimedia data streams to automatically detect and identify specific criminal events and activities. More specifically, the system detects and analyzes series of incidents (an incident is an occurrence or artifact relevant to a criminal activity extracted from a single media stream) in the spatiotemporal domain to extract events (actual instances of criminal events) while cross-referencing multimodal media streams and incidents in time and space to provide a comprehensive view to a human operator while avoiding information overload. We present several case studies that demonstrate how the proposed system can provide law enforcement personnel with forensic and real time tools to identify and track potential criminal activity.

  • The purpose of this research is to develop Dementia-diagnosis application program through inter-working between biometric sensors and smart phone with diagnostic programs. Receiving data from 2 biometric sensors, SpO2 and HRV(heart rate variability) with Bluetooth and adding scores from questionnaires and memory test game, smart phone can draw a final Dementia Index(DI). Simple clinical tests provided threshold for Dementia, and diagnosis was made by comparing the DI with the threshold. We performed testing on persons aged over 60 and found out the proposed application can be used to diagnose Dementia easily and quickly. Additionally, we have shown the potential of oxygen chamber combined with Dementia-diagnosis application as a medical equipment to ease or cure Dementia in its early stages.

  • An local area weather condition monitoring system to minimize many disasters from the sudden change of weather condition in local and mountain area is proposed. Firstly, the comparison of present state of the related monitoring systems and the possibility of realization with some merits are investigated. Moreover, this paper present direction of local area weather condition monitoring system based on integration of wireless sensor network and CDMA network following some case study. Through the efficient integration of both networks, the measured weather condition data from sensors can be transmitted to the server or mobile to monitor with high reliability. The proposed monitoring system will guide new type of project in wireless sensor network and support alarm service of the sudden change of weather condition to mobile user from central official regulations.

  • As 5G and AI continue to develop, there has been a significant surge in the healthcare industry. The COVID-19 pandemic has posed immense challenges to the global health system. This study proposes an FL-supported edge computing model based on federated learning (FL) for predicting clinical outcomes of COVID-19 patients during hospitalization. The model aims to address the challenges posed by the pandemic, such as the need for sophisticated predictive models, privacy concerns, and the non-IID nature of COVID-19 data. The model utilizes the FATE framework, known for its privacy-preserving technologies, to enhance predictive precision while ensuring data privacy and effectively managing data heterogeneity. The model's ability to generalize across diverse datasets and its adaptability in real-world clinical settings are highlighted by the use of SHAP values, which streamline the training process by identifying influential features, thus reducing computational overhead without compromising predictive precision. The study demonstrates that the proposed model achieves comparable precision to specific machine learning models when dataset sizes are identical and surpasses traditional models when larger training data volumes are employed. The model's performance is further improved when trained on datasets from diverse nodes, leading to superior generalization and overall performance, especially in scenarios with insufficient node features. The integration of FL with edge computing contributes significantly to the reliable prediction of COVID-19 patient outcomes with greater privacy. The research contributes to healthcare technology by providing a practical solution for early intervention and personalized treatment plans, leading to improved patient outcomes and efficient resource allocation during public health crises.

Development of a Close-range Real-time Aerial Monitoring System based on a Low Altitude Unmanned Air Vehicle (저고도 무인 항공기 기반의 근접 실시간 공중 모니터링 시스템 구축)

  • As large scaled natural or man-made disasters being increased, the demand for rapid responses for such emergent situations also has been ever-increasing. These responses need to acquire spatial information of each individual site rapidly for more effective management of the situations. Therefore, we are developing a close-range real-time aerial monitoring system based on a low altitude unmanned helicopter. This system can acquire airborne sensory data in real-time and generate rapidly geospatial information. The system consists of two main parts: aerial and ground parts. The aerial part includes an aerial platform equipped with multi-sensor(cameras, a laser scanner, a GPS receiver, an IMU) and sensor supporting modules. The ground part includes a ground vehicle, a receiving system to receive sensory data in real-time and a processing system to generate the geospatial information rapidly. Development and testing of the individual modules and subsystems have been almost completed. Integration of the modules and subsystems is now in progress. In this paper, we w ill introduce our system, explain intermediate results, and discuss expected outcome.

  • This study investigates Terrain Aided Inertial Navigation(TAIN) which consists of Inertial Navigation System (INS) with the optical sensor for precise planetary landing. Image processing is conducted to extract the feature points between measured terrain data and on-board implemented terrain information. The navigation algorithm with Iterated Extended Kalman Filter(IEKF) can compensate for the navigation error, and provide precise navigation information compared to single INS. Simulation results are used to demonstrate the feasibility of integration to accomplish precise planetary landing. The proposed navigation approach can be implemented to the whole system coupled with guidance and control laws.

Vision-Based Indoor Object Tracking Using Mean-Shift Algorithm (평균 이동 알고리즘을 이용한 영상기반 실내 물체 추적)

  • In this paper, we present tracking algorithm for the indoor moving object. We research passive method using a camera and image processing. It had been researched to use dynamic based estimators, such as Kalman Filter, Extended Kalman Filter and Particle Filter for tracking moving object. These algorithm have a good performance on real-time tracking, but they have a limit. If the shape of object is changed or object is located on complex background, they will fail to track them. This problem will need the complicated image processing algorithm. Finally, a large algorithm is made from integration of dynamic based estimator and image processing algorithm. For eliminating this inefficiency problem, image based estimator, Mean-shift Algorithm is suggested. This algorithm is implemented by color histogram. In other words, it decide coordinate of object's center from using probability density of histogram in image. Although shape is changed, this is not disturbed by complex background and can track object. This paper shows the results in real camera system, and decides 3D coordinate using the data from mean-shift algorithm and relationship of real frame and camera frame.
