  • In this paper, we deal with two bias compensation algorithms of acceleration sensor for measuring the galloping on power transmission line. Firstly, the block diagram of galloping measurement system is given and a galloping model is presented. Secondly, two compensation algorithms, a simple compensation and a period compensation, are proposed. A simple compensation algorithm use the drafts of velocity and distance at fixed periods, so it is useful for constant bias case. Next, a period compensation algorithm can compensate a periodic bias. This algorithm use the previous measured data and compensated data for constant period, where the period is obtained by FFT method. Lastly, the effectiveness of proposed algorithms is verified by comparing between two algorithms in simulation, and its characteristics and the bias error bound are shown, respectively.

  • Application of the Microsoft robotics studio (MSRS) to the design of a factory safety monitoring robot is presented. Basic structures of the MSRS and the service are introduced. The service is the key building block of the MSRS. Control of the safety monitoring robot is performed using four basic services: 1) the robot service which communicates with the embedded micro-processor and other services, 2) the sensor service that notifies the subscribing services of the change of the sensor value, 3) the motor service which controls the power levels to the motors, 4) the drive service which maneuvers the robot. With built-in capabilities of the MSRS, control of factory safety monitoring robot can be more easily performed.

  • Achievements in the real-time soil spectro-photometer are: an improved soil penetrator to ensure a uniform soil surface under high speed conditions, real-time collecting of underground soil reflectance, getting underground soil color images, use of a RTK-GPS, and all units are arranged for compactness. With the soil spectrophotometer, field experiments were conducted in a 0.5 ha paddy field. With the original reflectance, averaging and multiple scatter correction, Kubelka-Munk (KM) transformation as soil absorption, its 1st and 2nd derivatives were calculated. When the spectra was highly correlated with the soil parameters, stepwise regression analysis was conducted. Results include the best prediction models for moisture, soil organic matter (SOM), nitrate nitrogen (NO$_3$-N), pH and electric conductivity (EC), and soil maps obtained by block kriging analysis.

  • Lightweight ciphers are increasingly employed in cryptography because of the high demand for secure data transmission in wireless sensor network, embedded devices, and Internet of Things. The PRESENT algorithm as an ultralightweight block cipher provides better solution for secure hardware cryptography with low power consumption and minimum resource. This study generates the key using key rotation and substitution method, which contains key rotation, key switching, and binary-coded decimal-based key generation used in image encryption. The key rotation and substitution-based PRESENT architecture is proposed to increase security level for data stream and randomness in cipher through providing high resistance to attacks. Lookup table is used to design the key scheduling module, thus reducing the area of architecture. Field-programmable gate array (FPGA) performances are evaluated for the proposed and conventional methods. In Virtex 6 device, the proposed key rotation and substitution PRESENT architecture occupied 72 lookup tables, 65 flip flops, and 35 slices which are comparably less to the existing architecture.

  • Differential detection algorithm for DBO-CSS based on maximum signal energy detection (MSED) using viterbi algorithm is proposed. In order to mitigate SNR degradation caused by differential decoding, a modified viterbi algorithm with so called correlation metric (CM) in every state is proposed. It is shown that the performance gain of the proposed algorithm when compared with that of the conventional differential detection with the block decoding algorithm is about 2.5dB at BER = $10^{-5}$.

  • A conventional correlation target tracker is analysed with a simple mathematical approach. And, we will propose a correlation measure with selective attentional property in order to overcome the false-peak problem of the conventional methods. Various experimental results show that the proposed correlation measure is able to reduce considerably the probability of false-peaks degraded by the correlation between background images of a reference block and a distorted and noisy sensor input image.

  • The ignition timing feedback control system was studied to enhance the engine power and to reduce the fuel consumption by optimizing the spark timing. The signal of a piezo-electric vibration transducer attached to the engine block was compared with that of a pressure transducer in order to determine the knock intensity. With the result of comparison the ignition timing feedback control system which detect the knock and correct the spark timing was set up. The ignition could be more advaced with this control system than the existing system without the continuous knocking, therefore the engine torque was increased.

  • The IoT environment provides an infinite variety of services using many different devices and networks. The development of the IoT environment is directly proportional to the level of security that can be provided. In some ways, lightweight cryptography is suitable for IoT environments, because it provides security, higher throughput, low power consumption and compactness. However, it has the limitation that it must form a new cryptosystem and be used within a limited resource range. Therefore, it is not the best solution for the IoT environment that requires diversification. Therefore, in order to overcome these disadvantages, this paper proposes a method suitable for the IoT environment, while using the existing block cipher algorithm, viz. the lightweight cipher algorithm, and keeping the existing system (viz. the sensing part and the server) almost unchanged. The proposed BCL architecture can perform encryption for various sensor devices in existing wire/wireless USNs (using) lightweight encryption. The proposed BCL architecture includes a pre/post-processing part in the existing block cipher algorithm, which allows various scattered devices to operate in a daisy chain network environment. This characteristic is optimal for the information security of distributed sensor systems and does not affect the neighboring network environment, even if hacking and cracking occur. Therefore, the BCL architecture proposed in the IoT environment can provide an optimal solution for the diversified IoT environment, because the existing block cryptographic algorithm, viz. the lightweight cryptographic algorithm, can be used.

  • This paper presents a compact K-band Doppler radar sensor for human vital signal detection that uses a radar configuration with only single coupler. The proposed radar front-end configuration can reduce the chip size and the additional RF power loss. The radar front-end IC is composed of a Lange coupler, VCO, and single balanced mixer. The oscillation frequency of the VCO is from 27.3 to 27.8 GHz. The phase noise of the VCO is -91.2 dBc/Hz at a 1 MHz offset frequency, and the output power is -4.8 dBm. The conversion gain of the mixer is about 11 dB. The chip size is $0.89{\times}1.47mm^2$. The compact Ka-band Doppler radar system was developed in order to demonstrate remote human vital signal detection. The radar system consists of a Ka-band Doppler radar module with a $2{\times}2$ patch array antenna, baseband signal conditioning block, DAQ system, and signal processing program. The front-end module size is $2.5{\times}2.5cm^2$. The proposed radar sensor can properly capture a human heartbeat and respiration rate at the distance of 50 cm.
