Development of 3-D viewer for indoor location tracking system using wireless sensor network

  • In this paper we present 3-D Navigation View, a three-dimensional visualization of indoor environment which serves as an intuitive and unified user interface for our developed indoor location tracking system via Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) in web environment. The extracted user's spatial information from indoor location tracking system was further processed to facilitate the location indication in virtual 3-D indoor environment based on his location in physical world. External Authoring Interface (EAI) provided by VRML enables the integration of interactive 3-D graphics into web and direct communication with the encapsulated Java applet to update position and viewpoint of user periodically in 3-D indoor environment. As any web browser with VRML viewer plug-in is able to run the platform independent 3-D Navigation View, specialized and expensive hardware or software can be disregarded.

  • GPS가 가지는 특징과 비선형, 비가우시안의 시스템에서도 강인한 특성을 지닌 파티클 필터(PF, Particle Filter)를 이용하여 위치 추정 성능을 향상시키는 방법에 대해 제안한다. 그리고 제안한 알고리즘으로 보정한 GPS 데이터와 관성센서를 저가형 시스템에 적합한 약결합 방식을 이용하여 결합하였으며 정확도 향상을 위해 자세에 관한 칼만필터를 추가시켜 구현하였다. 구현된 시스템의 성능확인을 위해 NovAtel사의 고정밀 GPS와 비교 분석하였다.

  • Vertical velocity is critical in many areas, such as the control of unmanned aerial vehicles, fall detection, and virtual reality. Conventionally, the integration of GPS (Global Positioning System) with an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) was popular for the estimation of vertical components. However, GPS cannot work well indoors and, more importantly, has low accuracy in the vertical direction. In order to overcome these issues, IMU-barometer integration has been suggested instead of IMU-GPS integration. This paper proposes a new complementary filter for the estimation of vertical velocity based on IMU-barometer integration. The proposed complementary filter is designed to minimize drift error in the estimated velocity by adding PID control in addition to a zero velocity update technique.

  • The Electronic Warfare Computer for the Aircraft Survivability Equipment will improve the ability for countermeasures by analysis about threat information. This paper suggests method that threat data integration of multiple sensors(Radar Warning Receiver, Laser Warning Receiver, Missile Warning Receiver). The algorithm of threat data integration is based on detected threat sequence and azimuth information. The threat sequence information is analyzed in advance and the azimuth data is received from sensors. The suggested method is evaluated through simulation under the environment like real helicopter.

IMU-바로미터 기반의 수직변위 추정용 이단계 칼만/상보 필터 (A Two-step Kalman/Complementary Filter for Estimation of Vertical Position Using an IMU-Barometer System)

  • Estimation of vertical position is critical in applications of sports science and fall detection and also controls of unmanned aerial vehicles and motor boats. Due to low accuracy of GPS(global positioning system) in the vertical direction, the integration of IMU(inertial measurement unit) with the GPS is not suitable for the vertical position estimation. This paper investigates an IMU-barometer integration for estimation of vertical position (as well as vertical velocity). In particular, a new two-step Kalman/complementary filter is proposed for accurate and efficient estimation using 6-axis IMU and barometer signals. The two-step filter is composed of (i) a Kalman filter that estimates vertical acceleration via tilt orientation of the sensor using the IMU signals and (ii) a complementary filter that estimates vertical position using the barometer signal and the vertical acceleration from the first step. The estimation performance was evaluated against a reference optical motion capture system. In the experimental results, the averaged estimation error of the proposed method was 19.7 cm while that of the raw barometer signal was 43.4 cm.

  • In this paper we present an implantable pressure sensor to measure real-time blood pressure by monitoring mechanical movement of artery. Sensor is composed of inductors (L) and capacitors (C) which are formed by microfabrication and direct bonding on two biocompatible substrates (quartz). When electrical potential is applied to the sensor, the inductors and capacitors generates a LC resonance circuit and produce characteristic resonant frequencies. Real-time variation of the resonant frequency is monitored by an external measurement system using inductive coupling. Structural and electrical simulation was performed by Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) programs, ANSYS and HFSS, to optimize geometry of sensor. Ultrafast laser (femto-second) cutting and MEMS process were executed as sensor fabrication methods with consideration of brittleness of the substrate and small radial artery size. After whole fabrication processes, we got sensors of $3mm{\times}15mm{\times}0.5mm$. Resonant frequency of the sensor was around 90 MHz at atmosphere (760 mmHg), and the sensor has good linearity without any hysteresis. Longterm (5 years) stability of the sensor was verified by thermal acceleration testing with Arrhenius model. Moreover, in-vitro cytotoxicity test was done to show biocompatiblity of the sensor and validation of real-time blood pressure measurement was verified with animal test by implant of the sensor. By integration with development of external interrogation system, the proposed sensor system will be a promising method to measure real-time blood pressure.

  • Civil infrastructure, in both its construction and maintenance, represents the largest societal investment in this country, outside of the health care industry. Despite being the lifeline of US commerce, civil infrastructure has scarcely benefited from the latest sensor technological advances. Our future should focus on harnessing these technologies to enhance the robustness, longevity and economic viability of this vast, societal investment, in light of inherent uncertainties and their exposure to service and even extreme loadings. One of the principal means of insuring the robustness and longevity of infrastructure is to strategically deploy smart sensors in them. Therefore, the objective is to develop novel, durable, smart sensors that are especially applicable to major infrastructure and the facilities to validate their reliability and long-term functionality. In some cases, this implies the development of new sensing elements themselves, while in other cases involves innovative packaging and use of existing sensor technologies. In either case, a parallel focus will be the integration and networking of these smart sensing elements for reliable data acquisition, transmission, and fusion, within a decision-making framework targeting efficient management and maintenance of infrastructure systems. In this paper, prudent and viable sensor and health monitoring technologies have been developed and used in several large structural systems. Discussion will also include several practical bridge health monitoring applications including their design, construction, and operation of the systems.

Development of an Agricultural Data Middleware to Integrate Multiple Sensor Networks for an Farm Environment Monitoring System

  • Purpose: The objective of this study is to develop a data middleware for u-IT convergence in agricultural environment monitoring, which can support non-standard data interfaces and solve the compatibility problems of heterogenous sensor networks. Methods: Six factors with three different interfaces were chosen as target data among the environmental monitoring factors for crop cultivation. PostgresSQL and PostGIS were used for database and the data middleware was implemented by Python programming language. Based on hierarchical model design and key-value type table design, the data middleware was developed. For evaluation, 2,000 records of each data access interface were prepared. Results: Their execution times of File I/O interface, SQL interface and HTTP interface were 0.00951 s/record, 0.01967 s/record and 0.0401 s/record respectively. And there was no data loss. Conclusions: The data middleware integrated three heterogenous sensor networks with different data access interfaces.

화상센서의 잡음 특성 측정 (Measurement of noise characteristics of an image sensor)

  • We setup the system to measure the noise characteristics of the 5M complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor by generic measurement indicator of Standard mobile imaging architecture (SMIA) which is one of internal standard of mobile imaging architecture. To evaluate the effect of environment and setting parameters, such as temperature and integration time, we measure the variation of the dark signal, dynamic range and fixed pattern noise of image sensor. We also detect the number of defective pixels and cluster defects defined as adjacent single defect pixels at 5M CMOS image sensor. Then, we find the existence of some cluster defects in experiment, which are not expected in calculation.

  • This paper proposes a system composed of wireless sensor network and cloud to monitor storage environment of pharmaceutical products. Integration of sensor networks to cloud is an emerging architecture offering the benefits of internet for monitoring to be done easily and remotely from anywhere and anytime and at the same time freeing the sensor network from processing, analysis, computational and storage of sensor data.
