The Effect of Adolescent Sexual Media Literacy and Sexual Permissiveness on Gender Sensitivity (청소년의 성미디어리터러시, 성허용성이 성인지감수성에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the effects of adolescent sexual media literacy and sexual permissiveness on gender sensitivity and to provide evidences useful in developing a sex education program that would promote gender sensitivity among adolescents. Methods: Data were derived from 250 adolescents' responses to questionnaires. Collected data were analyzed using ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Results: Gender sensitivity according to gender was significantly different (t=-6.54, p=0.001). Gender sensitivity was positively correlated with sexual media literacy (r=0.36, p<0.001), and negatively correlated with sexual permissiveness (r=.22, p<.001). Sexual media literacy was negatively correlated with sexual permissiveness (r=-0.39, p<0.001). The variables affecting the participants' gender sensitivity on media literacy were gender (β=0.33, p<0.001) and sexual depiction scene (β=0.24, p<0.001). Conclusion: Gender and sexual media literacy influenced participants' gender sensitivity. Therefore, when developing a school-based sex education program, sexual media literacy should be included as a key concept; moreover, gender-specific programs need to be developed. Furthermore, teaching methods should enhance media literacy related to sexual depiction scenes and promote safe and healthy sexual permissiveness.

  • A general procedure to evaluate the sensitivity of design variables to stresses and strains in PSC flexural members is proposed. To accomplish the purpose of this study, long-term losses including creep, shrinkage, and PS steel relaxation are formulated based on the equilibrium states of the deformed sectional geometry. Thereby, the formulation follows the basic steps which consider the fundamental formulas adopted by CEB-FIP, ACI, and KCI rather than the age adjusted effective modulus concept. Twenty-one design variable including the material and geometrical properties of concrete, nonprestressing steel and prestressing steel, and the geometry of the cross section are considered in the sensitivity analysis. The gradients of the stresses and strains needed for the sensitivity assessment are calculated in a closed format. The derived formulation is applied to the T-type section PSC beam with prestressing and nonprestressing steels for the sensitivity analysis. The analytically calculated sensitivity results are compared with those numerically calculated to ensure the validity of the proposed procedure.

Xylitol Sensitivity among Oral Streptococci

  • Xylitol is a five-carbon sugar alcohol that inhibits the growth of oral streptococci, including Streptococcus mutans. In this study, we tested xylitol sensitivity among the oral streptococci. We also compared nucleotide homology of putative fructose phosphotransferase system (PTS) and xylitol sensitivity, since xylitol is transported via the fructose PTS. Among the tested Streptococci, S. pneumonia showed the highest resistance to xylitol while S. gordonii and S. sanguinis showed the most sensitive growth inhibition. These streptococci could be grouped according to their xylitol sensitivity. S. mutans and S. salivarius showed similar bacterial growth inhibition by xylitol. S. mitis, S. oralis, S. pneumonia, S. intermedius and S. anginosus showed relatively low sensitivity to xylitol. When the genetic homologies of five fructose PTSs were compared among the tested streptococci, closely related streptococci showed similar sensitivity to xylitol. Taken together, fructose PTSs may mediate the sensitivity to xylitol in oral streptococci.

Sensitivity Factors of Kitsch Expression in Food and Beverage Space - Focused on The Correlations with Characteristics of Kitsch and Design Methods - (F&B공간에 나타난 키치적 표현의 감성 요소에 관한 연구 - 키치의 특성 및 디자인 기법과의 상관성을 중심으로 -)

  • Contemporary design of food and beverage(F&B) space reflects various needs, not only of eating, but also environmental ones. As a way of meeting this conceptual change and the various needs of contemporary consumers, kitsch expression is often utilized actively. Thus, this study intends to analyze the design characteristics and methods of kitsch expression found in contemporary F&B space and their correlations with sensitivity factors, focusing on relevant cases. Specifically, it examined the definition, origin, and changes of kitsch, and identified the sensitive role of kitsch in interior space. Next, it classified the kitsch characteristics and design methods found in interior design, finally analyzing the characteristics of kitsch expressions in contemporary F&B space by sensitivity factors and their correlations with design methods. As a consequence, it was found that the attempts in contemporary F&B space design to differentiate space through active introduction of various kitsch expressions were fulfilling the sensitive needs of changing consumers by providing new cultural experiences. That is, such attempts are considered to have improved the satisfaction of consumers who value sensitivity, by means of wide exchange of sensitivity between designers and consumers. To raise the sensitive satisfaction of consumers more in future, it is necessary to further continuous and in-depth research on the correlation between kitsch expressions and sensitivity factors in interior design.

Factors Influencing the Empathy Competence and Moral Sensitivity of Nurses at Tertiary General Hospitals Performing End-of-life Care (상급종합병원 간호사의 공감 역량과 도덕적 민감성이 임종간호 수행에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The goal of this study aimed to understand the factors influencing the empathy competence and moral sensitivity of nurses working in tertiary general hospitals who offered end-of-life care. Methods: Descriptive data were collected from self-reported questionnaires completed by 164 nurses with direct nursing care experience with end-of-life patients at two tertiary general hospitals located in Busan, Korea. The variables examined were empathy competence, moral sensitivity, and end-of-life care performance. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 27.0 software. Results: Participants scored 3.73±0.40 on empathy competence, 4.97±0.51 on moral sensitivity and 2.91±0.37 on end-of-life care performance. There was a significant positive correlation between empathy competence and end-of-life care performance, and between moral sensitivity and end-of-life care performance. The factors affecting nurses' end-of-life care performance, empathy competence and moral sensitivity, exhibited with an explanatory power of 31%. Conclusion: Programs to increase empathy competence and moral sensitivity should be developed to improve nurses' end-of-life care performance.

  • In this study, a method of optimal blank design using the sensitivity analysis has been proposed. To get sensitivity a well-known commercial code PAM-STAMP has been used. In order to verify this method, formings of square cup, clover shaped cup and L shaped cup have been chosen as the examples. With the predicted optimal blank both computer simulation and experiment are performed. Excellent agreements are recognized between the numerical results and the target contour shapes. Through the investigation, the proposed systematic method of optimal blank design is found to be effective in the design of the deep drawing process.

  • Although intensive development continues on innovative sensor systems, there is still considerable uncertainty in deciding on the number of sensors required and their locations in order to obtain adequate information on structural behavior. This paper is concerned with the sensor locations on a beam-structure for prognostic structural health monitoring. The purpose of this study is to investigate how to determine optimal sensor placement(OSP) from the sensitivity information of a known failure mode. The sensitivity of the forced vibration response of a beam to the variation of stiffness due to a crack is calculated analytically and used to determine the optimal sensor locations for the specified failure mode. The results of this method compared with the results of different OSP methods. The results have shown that the proposed method on optimal sensor placement is very effective in structural health monitoring.

The Cultivation of Environmental Sensitivity through Environmental Literary Experience (환경문학체험을 통한 환경감수성 함양)

  • This study examines how literary experiences cultivate environmental sensitivity. In this study we have 3 children(6th graders) to experience 3 selected literary works. The experience of 3 children focusing on characters is divided into 'sympathy', 'identification' and 'hostility' by empathy types. In literary experiences, children naturally support the values pursued by main characters. The experience focusing on plot events is consists of 'sympathy' and 'advice'. The children agreed with the way how the characters solved environmental issues while involved in the events by offering advice to characters whose actions they did not agree to. The experience focusing on topics is divided into 'assimilation' and 'reflection'. The children experienced the assimilation process. Furthermore, they reflected on new environmental issues. This result suggests literary experience subserve children to reflect value through empathy and cultivate their intention toward pro-environmental behavior by generating environmental sensitivity.

High Sensitive Fiber Optic Temperature Sensor Based on a Side-polished Single-mode Fiber Coupled to a Tapered Multimode Overlay Waveguide

  • A high sensitivity fiber optic temperature sensor based on a side-polished fiber (SPF) coupled to a tapered multimode overlay waveguide (MMOW) is proposed and studied. Both tapered and non-tapered MMOW were considered to study the effect of tapering of MMOW on the characteristics of the device and to investigate the criticality of the uniformity of the multimode overlay waveguide over the SPF. Present study shows that tapering of the MMOW can be used to tune the desired wavelength range without any loss in the sensitivity. Sensitivity up to 9 nm/$^{\circ}C$ within the temperature range of 25 to $100^{\circ}C$ can be achieved with the proposed sensor, almost 6 times higher compared even to state-of-the-art high-sensitivity grating-based fiber optic temperature sensors.

  • The strain rate sensitivity index, m, plays an important role in plastic deformation at elevated temperatures. It is affected by strain rate, temperature, and the microstructure of the material. The strain rate sensitivity index has been used as a constant in numerical analysis of plastic forming at a specified strain rate and temperature. However, the value of m varies as deformation proceeds at an elevated temperature and a certain strain rate. Thus, in this present study, the value of m has been characterized as a function of strain by multiple tensile jump tests for AZ31 magnesium alloy sheet, and the variation of m has been discussed in conjunction with the microstructural observations before and after deformation. The experimental results show that the variation of m is dependent on the temperature and strain rate. Grain growth with dynamic recrystallization also affects the variation of m.
