This paper studies the magnetic fields between the power lines which are finite length and other ones which are infinitely long around the first tower in the proximity of the power transformers. They will be used as a source of disturbance applied to the power line. The method applied in this study was gradual; develop the theoretical formulation of the magnetic fields of these lines which are finite length and other ones which are infinitely long, examine the effects of different couplings between the different neighboring lines and the distribution transformers on behavior of magnetic fields. The method also focused on the experimental results analyzing the magnetic fields which will be used as a source applied to the auditory implants EMC. The theoretical and experimental results were compared and discussed for three power lines (90kV, 150kV and 225kV) near the power station, and it proved the effect of these substations on the simulated and measured results of the magnetic field. The maximum intensities of magnetic fields measured at the height of 1m from the ground for the circuit of three lines close to each substation were significantly lower than the ICNIRP reference levels for occupational and non occupational exposures.
This paper deals with an approach to the reduction of potential rise according to the buried depth of structure. In order to analyze the surface potential rise of structure, an electrolytic tank which simulates the semi-infinite earth has been used. The potential rise has been measured and analyzed for types of structure using an electrolytic tank experimental apparatus in real time. The structure models were designed through reducing real buildings and fabricated with two types on a scale of one-one hundred sixty When a test current flowed through structure models, the potential rise of outline frame type(structure model A) was more high than that of electric cage type(structure model B). The distributions of surface potential rise are dependent on the buried depth of structure model.
A semi-infinite interfacial crack propagated with constant velocity in two bonded anisotropic strips under out-of-plane clamped displacements is analyzed. Using Fourier integral transform the problem is formulated and the Wiener-Hopf equation is derived. By solving this equation the asymptotic stress and displacement fields near the crack tip are obtained, where the results get more general expressions applicable not only to isotropic/orthotropic materials but also to the extent of the anisotropic material having one plane of elastic symmetry for the interfacial crack. The dynamic stress intensity factor is obtained as a closed form, which is decreased as the velocity of crack propagation increases. The critical velocity where the stress intensity factor comes to zero is obtained, which agrees with the lower value between the critical values of parallel crack merged in the material 1 and 2 adjacent to the interface. Using the near tip fields of stresses and displacements, the dynamic energy release rate is also obtained as a form of the stress intensiy factor.

The current study compares the effect of structure-soil-structure interaction (SSSI) on the dynamic responses of adjacent buildings and isolated structures including soil-structure interaction (SSI) with the responses of fixed-base structures. Structural responses such as the relative acceleration, displacement, drift and shear force were considered under earthquake ground motion excitation. For this purpose, 5-, 10- and 15-story structures with 2-bay moment resisting frames resting on shallow foundations were modeled as a group of buildings in soft soil media. Viscous lateral boundaries and interface elements were applied to the soil model to simulate semi-infinite soil media, frictional contact and probable slip under seismic excitation. The direct method was employed for fully nonlinear time-history dynamic analysis in OpenSees using 3D finite element soil-structure models with different building positions. The results showed that the responses of the grouped structures were strongly influenced by the adjacent structures. The responses were as much as 4 times greater for drift and 2.3 times greater for shear force than the responses of fixed-base models.
The ignition characteristics of a reactive solid with rough surface by constant heat flux were studied. The geometry of surface was represented by a set of identical protrusions having a shape of wedge based on the block of reactive solid. Several regimes of ignition were found, depending on the ratio of the protrusion length and the depth of the heated layer, formed in course of ignition process: 1) when the substance is ignited as the massive block, and the effect of roughness is not pronounced; 2) when ignited are the individual protrusions; and 3) in the intermediate region between the first two. Critical ignition conditions: ignition time and ignition criterion, are determined for the three regimes. The results are compared with the results for the one-dimensional ignition of the semi-infinite body. It is shown, that the effect of geometry on ignition results in the considerable reduction of ignition delay, and the amount of energy required for the successful ignition is less compared to the one- dimensional case.
Dynamic analysis of concrete gravity dam-reservoir systems is an important topic in the study of fluid-structure interaction problems. It is well-known that the rigorous approach for solving this problem relies heavily on employing a two-dimensional semi-infinite fluid element. The hyper-element is formulated in frequency domain and its application in this field has led to many especial purpose programs which were demanding from programming point of view. In this study, a technique is proposed for dynamic analysis of dam-reservoir systems in the context of pure finite element programming which is referred to as the wavenumber approach. In this technique, the wavenumber condition is imposed on the truncation boundary or the upstream face of the near-field water domain. The method is initially described. Subsequently, the response of an idealized triangular dam-reservoir system is obtained by this approach, and the results are compared against the exact response. Based on this investigation, it is concluded that this approach can be envisaged as a great substitute for the rigorous type of analysis.
It is a well-known phenomenon that, in the case of vibrations of an elastic body in a fluid such as water, the presence of the surrounding fluid has the effect of lowering the natural frequencies of the vibration as compared with those in air or vacuum on account of the increased inertia, i.e. added mass. In this report, defining the mass increase factor as the ratio of added mass to vibration mass of the body in air, the author investigated the mass increased factor of an elastic plate vibrating in the fluid. It is assumed that the edges of the plate are simply supported, and that the surrounding fluid is an infinite ideal one. For the problem formulation the elliptical cylindrical coordinate system is adopted, so that a rectangular plate may be represented by a sheet degenerated from an elliptical cylinder. By virtue of the coordinate system adopted, plates which are chordwisely finite and lengthwisely contineous could directly be treated, but plates which are chordwisely finite in both directions could not be treated directly. For the latter, hence, plates which are chordwisely finite and lengthwisely semi-finite are investigated as an appropriate approximation. Some examples of the mass increase factor are numerically calculated for the fundamental mode and modes of zero or one nodal line in each direction with the range of the aspect ratio from 1 to 10 or more.
In this study, continuous contact problem in the functionally graded (FG) layer loaded with a FG flat punch resting on the elastic semi-infinite plane was analyzed by the finite element method (FEM). It was assumed that the shear modulus and density of the layer and punch varied according to exponentially throughout their depth. FG layer's weight was included to the problem and additionally all surfaces were considered as frictionless. Analysis of FG materials was performed with a special macro which was added to the ANSYS program. Firstly, the shear modulus of the punch was considered to be very rigid and the results of initial separation load (λcr) and distance (xcr) were compared with the analytical solution. Afterwards, results obtained from the contact analysis made according to the inhomogeneity parameters (β, γ) between FG punch-FG layer which had been unprecedented in the literature were discussed. As a result, FG punch's stress values at the punch edges where stress accumulations occurred were found to be smaller than the rigid punch. The security of the structure, longer life of the material and ease of production are directly related to the reduction of the stress values. The results obtained in this study are important in this respect. Also this work is the first study that investigates the effect of FG punch on the FG layer.
Solar observations often show that interaction of more than one flux rope is involved in solar eruptions. In this regard, Lau and Finn (1996) intensively studied the interaction of two flux ropes, which reside in between two parallel planes each mimicking one polarity region of the solar photosphere. However, this geometry is quite far from the real solar situation, in which all feet of flux tubes are rooted in one surface only. In this paper, we study the interaction of two flux ropes in a semi-infinite region above a plane representing the solar photosphere. Four cases of the flux rope interaction are investigated in our MHD simulation study: (1) parallel axial fields and parallel axial currents (co-helicity), (2) antiparallel axial fields and parallel axial currents (counter-helicity), (3) parallel axial fields and antiparallel axial currents (counter-helicity), and (4) antiparallel axial fields and antiparallel axial currents (co-helicity). Each case consists of four or six subcases according to the background field direction relative to the flux ropes and the relative positions of the flux rope footpoints. In our simulations, all the cases eventually show eruptive behaviors, but their degree of explosiveness and field topological evolutions are quite different. We construct artificial emission measure maps based on the simulations and compare them with images of CME observations, which provides us with information on what field configurations may generate certain eruption features.
In this study, contact analysis in a functionally graded (FG) layer loaded with two circular punches is solved using the finite element method (FEM). The problem is consisted of a functionally graded layer that resting on an elastic semi-infinite plane and is loaded with two rigid punches of circular geometry. External loads P and Q are transferred to the layer via two rigid punches. The finite element model of the functionally graded layer is created using the ANSYS package program and a 2-dimensional analysis of the problem is analyzed. The contact lengths, obtained as a result of the analysis are compared with the analytical solution in the literature. In the study, the effects of parameters such as distances between punches, loads, inhomogenity parameter on contact zones, initial separation loads and distances, normal stresses, stresses across depth and contact stresses are investigated. As a result, in this study, it can be said that the magnitude of the stresses occurring in the FG layer is less than the homogeneous layer, therefore the life of FG materials will be longer than the homogeneous layer. When the distance between the punches is 2.25, the initial separation distance is 6.98, and when the distance between the punches is 4, the initial separation distance decreases to 6.10. In addition, when the load increased in the second punch, the initial separation load decreased from 55 to 18. The obtained results are presented in the form of graphs and tables.
