  • Emotional semantics are the highest level of semantics that can be extracted from an image. Constructing a system that can automatically recognize the emotional semantics from images will be significant for marketing, smart healthcare, and deep human-computer interaction. To understand the direction of image emotion recognition as well as the general research methods, we summarize the current development trends and shed light on potential future research. The primary contributions of this paper are as follows. We investigate the color, texture, shape and contour features used for emotional semantics extraction. We establish two models that map images into emotional space and introduce in detail the various processes in the image emotional semantic recognition framework. We also discuss important datasets and useful applications in the field such as garment image and image retrieval. We conclude with a brief discussion about future research trends.

Abstract This paper presents a formal semantics for requirements specifications written in the SCR method. We define a semantics for SCR specifications by a translational approach into timed transition systems. Then we extend the SCR method for real-time systems and define a semantics for timed SCR specifications. The main benefit from providing such semantics is that it provides a natural modeling of concurrency and time in SCR specifications. The semantics enables us to directly apply verification methods for timed transition systems to SCR specifications.

  • In the study of the formal semantics of uncertain databases, we typically take an algebraic approach by mapping an uncertain database to possible worlds which are a set of relational databases. In this paper, we present a new semantics for uncertain databases which takes a logical approach by translating uncertain databases into logical theories. A characteristic feature of our semantics is that it uses linear logic, instead of propositional logic, as its logical foundation. Linear logic is suitable for a logical interpretation of uncertain information because unlike propositional logic, it treats logical formulae not as persistent facts but as consumable resources. As the main result, we show that our semantics is faithful to the operational account of uncertain databases in the algebraic approach.

  • This study developed and evaluated audio-visual (AV) semantics-based video summarization methods using eye tracking and electroencephalography (EEG) data. For this study, twenty-seven university students participated in eye tracking and EEG experiments. The evaluation results showed that the average recall rate (0.73) of using both EEG and pupil diameter data for the construction of a video summary was higher than that (0.50) of using EEG data or that (0.68) of using pupil diameter data. In addition, this study reported that the reasons why the average recall (0.57) of the AV semantics-based personalized video summaries was lower than that (0.69) of the AV semantics-based generic video summaries. The differences and characteristics between the AV semantics-based video summarization methods and the text semantics-based video summarization methods were compared and analyzed.

  • Algebraic signs are important on learning and problem solving of algebra. This study investigated the contents of letters and expressions in textbooks by syntactics, semantics and pragmatics, and considered the introduction and extension processes of algebraic signs didactically. We also categorized the signs, and looked into textbook problems in view of semiotic. The result is that textbook is constructed in syntactics and semantics. Finally, the assessment of 7th grade students' competence in syntactics, semantics, syntactics+- semantics, pragmatics, and problem solving shows that students' ability in syntactics and pragmatics Is a predictive variable for algebraic problem solving.

  • Following Herburger (2000), I will develop an event-based semantics for Japanese emphatic particles which can address the issue of the mechanism of association with focus involving the emphatic particles. The proposed semantics makes use of Herburger's three key ideas: events as basic entities, decomposition of predicates into subatomic formulas, and separation of backgrounded and foregrounded information.

  • This paper investigates algebraic semantics for some weak Boolean (wB) logics, which may be regarded as left-continuous t-norm based logics (or monoidal t-norm based logics (MTLs)). We investigate as infinite-valued logics each of wB-LC and wB-sKD, and each corresponding first order extension $wB-LC\forall$ and $wB-sKD\forall$. We give algebraic completeness for each of them.

  • The aim of thesis is to analyze dress phenomena, the semantic function and meaning of clothing were respectively on the basis of Semantics and Society by Geoffrey Leech and mentalistic semantics. To comprehend the actual clothing behaviour better, the pictures taken on the streets were used, including all kinds of the western-style and the traditional Korean costumes in Korea. The followings are the findings of the analysis. A in language, the semantic functions of the clothing are the informational, the expressive, the directive, the aesthetic, and the phatic functions. They communicate operating simultaneously. The clothing is the mentalistic semantics.

  • A semantics for logical necessity, based on Carnap's criterion of adequacy, is given with respect to the ontology of logical atomism. A calculus for sentential (propositional) modal logic is described and shown to be complete with respect to this semantics. The semantics is then modified in terms of a restricted notion of 'all possible worlds' in the interpretation of necessity and shown to yield a completeness theorem for the modal logic S5. Such a restricted notion introduces material content into the meaning of necessity so that, in addition to atomic facts, there are "modal facts" that distinguish one world from another.
