  • Although vision has been considered as a top sensory organ in the Western culture until modern times, the significance of space experience that communicates with a body via complex perceptions has recently garnered attention. This study criticizes the limitations of a vision-centered space and has the goal of empirically examining the sensibility characteristics in a haptic space through post-structuralism views leading up to Gilles Deleuze's philosophical ideas. This study will explore the flow of senses from the philosophical and artistic standpoint and the sensibility characteristics in a haptic space by examining the theories on haptic perceptions in connection with a space. In order to test the existing theories and identify the differences in sensibilities depending on perceptual method, the sensibilities of participants were compared using SD method (Semantic Differential scale method) and a validity test was conducted using a statistical program SPSS. The research has revealed that the average sensitivity scale of complex haptic perception was higher than single perception that only relies on vision. In addition, there was a correlation between perceptual method based on various sensory organs and human sensitivities. This study is meaningful in that it can serve a foundation for empirical research on sensibility, since it has reexamined the relationship between space and participants and demonstrated and analyzed their sensitivities through an experiment.

  • The present study was performed to investigate the psychological effects of spring flowers blossoms, which is one of the elements influencing to human psychology, in order to provide scientific evidence on the psychological benefits of green plants. A self-reporting survey was conducted by using self reporting questionnaires on the impression (semantic differential method: SD method) and mood states (profile of mood states: POMS) of eighty university students in their twenties. Korean forsythia, Korean rosebay, Japanese apricot, Cherry blossom, and Magnolia were chosen as spring flowers. The results of impression evaluation and mood states changes showed that spring flower blossom had beautiful, soft, warm, moist, familiar and full impressions, and changed our mood positively by reducing depression and anger, or by increasing vigor. In addition, different psychological effects can be differently observed depending on the species; for example, Cherry blossom had a greater effect in changing the impression and feeling than others. The findings would provide support toward the active usage in green space as well as its design maximizing the psychological effects of nature.

  • It is necessary for developing countries to increase their consolidation of domestic technology in order to improve their economy. In order to raise their techniques, they have to try to induce the advanced know-how from other countries in spite of heavy cost. The object of this study is to establish the model on which we base our choice of the proper techniques or plants and give priority to them by using quantified selection criteria. The method in this study has two stages, and the writer has selected 12 factors affecting the decision making for the importation of technology from the industrially advanced countries. First, the lists of valuable know-how for the better development of national industry should be determined, and for the formulation and arrangement of the lists, a council of specialists which uses questionnaires in terms of the Semantic Differential Method, should be organized. Second, for the assignments of priority to the prospective items for importation, the writer has imployed both the Leontief Model and the Disman Model as objective methods and Mottley-Newton method, one of the R&D Project Selection Methods, as a general model. The writer has applied the methods described above to the fields of petrochemical industry in Korea.

  • Modern people come to have high standard and variety need for the oneself expression these days. This phenomenon also, appears in the house space clearly. There are design characteristics in an element expressing a lifestyle and personality in the house space and a living room is the space that is important at time to do a design characteristics plan. Therefore, this study is going to analyze the design characteristics of the apartment house which is a representative house type these days. Concretely, there are design characteristics that a color, an Image, a style. This study used questionary survey from June 10, 2008 to July 9. The color analyzed a color and tone through a color palette of PCIS and the living room image used SD(semantic differential method) method by a concrete analysis method. The result of the analysis were as follows; 1) Various colors and tone were prefer in a house future than the house where lived in. 2) It was done prefer to 'comfort' image for the future living room image in the future but 'provocative' image and 'splendid' were not done a choice 3) A 'modern style' was done prefer to of with a house living room style in the future.

  • Because hand-written characters, especially drawn by a brush can give readers various impressions, they are not only a communication method but also art works. Authors have already investigated the relationship between brush motion analytical results and sensory testing results obtained from Japanese hiragana and reported quantitative evaluation method for the beauty of hiragana, In this paper, sensory tests for South Koreans who cannot recognize the word are carried out, compared with sensory testing results of Japanese. The evaluation objects are 6 hiragana drawn by 4 beginners and 2 experts, Semantic Differential Method based on 30 paired evaluation words are used in the sensory tests. Therefore South Koreans also feel the beauty in hiragana drawn by experts, as compared with by beginners. On the other hand it was confirmed that South Koreans couldnt recognize the difference among beginners. Judging from the factor analysis results, both Japanese and South Koreans selected stability as the 1st factor, there is interesting difference in the following orders.

  • The purpose of this study was (1) to identify the experimental bias which could appear person perception as results of presentation methods (2) to find out the most desirable method in presentation of stimulus. The research was a quasi experiment and the subjects were 773 male and female undergraduate students. The experimental instruments consisted of a set of stimulus and semantic differential scales of 7- point hi-polar adjectives. The collected data were analyzed by Factor Analysis, ANOVA(analysis of variance), Scheffe's multiple range test. The independent variables were presentation orders and presentation time of stimulus. The results were as follows: First, five factors which were potency, sociality, appearance, evaluation, activity impression dimensions emerged to account for the methods of development of stimulus. Second, the presentation order of stimulus in the combination of four stimuli sets had significant effects on the 3 impressional factors(sociality, appearance, evaluation). The presentation order of stimuli in the combination of eight stimuli set had significant effects on the 3 impressional factors(potency, sociality, appearance) and the presentation order of stimuli in the combination of eight stimuli set showed a significant effect on memorization of stimulus and the results support the recency effect. Third, the presentation time of stimuli had significant effects on the 2 impressional factors(potency, activity). 30 seconds presentation as well as free duration time resulted less experimental bias than 3 seconds presentation.
