  • This study examined factors that prevent older adults from using computers and/or smartphones for their health information search and health management. This study conducted face-to-face survey of a total of 240 older adults aged over 65. Based on the responses of open-ended questions, this study conducted semantic network analysis. The results showed that low level of perceived usefulness(PU) (e.g., information I want to find, detailed information, and trustworthiness) and perceived ease of use(PEOU) (e.g., how to search for information, how to install applications, and visibility) are main factors that prevent older adults from using computers and/or smartphones for their health information search and health management. Furthermore, based on the results of semantic network analysis, further hierarchical regression analysis confirmed that PU and PEOU were positively associated with intention to use mobile application. Thus, the results imply that increasing older adults' PU and PEOU can promote their intention to use mobile application.

  • Semantic role labeling (SRL) is a task in natural-language processing with the aim of detecting predicates in the text, choosing their correct senses, identifying their associated arguments, and predicting the semantic roles of the arguments. Developing a high-performance SRL system for a domain requires manually annotated training data of large size in the same domain. However, such SRL training data of sufficient size is available only for a few domains. Constructing SRL training data for a new domain is very expensive. Therefore, domain adaptation in SRL can be regarded as an important problem. In this paper, we show that domain adaptation for SRL systems can achieve state-of-the-art performance when based on structural learning and exploiting a prior model approach. We provide experimental results with three different target domains showing that our method is effective even if training data of small size is available for the target domains. According to experimentations, our proposed method outperforms those of other research works by about 2% to 5% in F-score.

  • Researches on enhancing the searching function of the web service using the ontology concept have been studying. One of them suggests a searching method for UDDI using DAML and DAML+OIL. However this approach has inconveniences to use operations proper to the circumstance and to define respective ontologies according to them. To solve these problems, we introduce an effective method of dealing with N-Triple, filtering care Triples, merging Triples, semantic connection between Triples and searching Triples for searching information and recommending the results in semantic web environment. Furthermore, we implement this proposed method in a system to test it. Finally, we test the system in the virtual semantic web environment for out research analysis.

  • The study investigates how financial markets respond to a shock to tone and semantic similarity of the Bank of Thailand press releases. The techniques in natural language processing are employed to quantify the tone and the semantic similarity of 69 press releases from 2010 to 2018. The corpus of the press releases is accessible to the general public. Stock market returns and bond yields are measured by logged return on SET50 and short-term and long-term government bonds, respectively. Data are daily from January 4, 2010, to August 8, 2019. The study uses the Structural Vector Auto Regressive model (SVAR) to analyze the effects of unanticipated and temporary shocks to the tone and the semantic similarity on bond yields and stock market returns. Impulse response functions are also constructed for the analysis. The results show that 1-month, 3-month, 6-month and 1-year bond yields significantly increase in response to a positive shock to the tone of press releases and 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, 1-year and 25-year bond yields significantly increase in response to a positive shock to the semantic similarity. Interestingly, stock market returns obtained from the SET50 index insignificantly respond to the shocks from the tone and the semantic similarity of the press releases.

  • High-definition (HD) maps can provide precise road information that enables an autonomous driving system to effectively navigate a vehicle. Recent research has focused on leveraging semantic segmentation to achieve automatic annotation of HD maps. However, the existing methods suffer from low recognition accuracy in automatic driving scenarios, leading to inefficient annotation processes. In this paper, we propose a novel semantic segmentation method for automatic HD map annotation. Our approach introduces a new encoder, known as the convolutional transformer hybrid encoder, to enhance the model's feature extraction capabilities. Additionally, we propose a multi-level fusion module that enables the model to aggregate different levels of detail and semantic information. Furthermore, we present a novel decoupled boundary joint decoder to improve the model's ability to handle the boundary between categories. To evaluate our method, we conducted experiments using the Bird's Eye View point cloud images dataset and Cityscapes dataset. Comparative analysis against stateof-the-art methods demonstrates that our model achieves the highest performance. Specifically, our model achieves an mIoU of 56.26%, surpassing the results of SegFormer with an mIoU of 1.47%. This innovative promises to significantly enhance the efficiency of HD map automatic annotation.

  • This article presents an examination of the major cognitive-semantic theories in linguistics (Langacker, Lakoff, Fillmore, Croft). The CST's foundations are discussed concerning the educational policy changes, which are necessary to improve the linguistic disciplines in the changing context of higher education, as well as the empowerment and development of the industry. It is relevant in the light of the linguistic specialists' quality training and the development of effective methods of language learning. Consideration of the theories content, tools, and methods of language teaching, which are an important component of quality teaching and the formation of a set of knowledge and skills of students of linguistic specialties, remains crucial. This study aims to establish the main theoretical positions and directions of cognitive-semantic theory in linguistics, determine the usefulness of teaching the basics of cognitive linguistics, the feasibility of using methods of cognitive-semantic nature in the learning process. During the research, the methods of linguistic description and observation, analysis, and synthesis were applied. The result of the study is to establish the need to study basic linguistic theories, as well as general theoretical precepts of cognitive linguistics, which remains one of the effective directions in the postmodern mainstream. It also clarifies the place of the main cognitive-semantic theories in the teaching linguistics' practice of the XXI century.

  • Building a domain-suited ontology, as a means to implement the Semantic Web, is widely believed to offer users the benefit of exploiting the semantic knowledge constrained in the application. Electronic Catalog, shortly e-Catalog, manages the information about the goods or conditions play an important role in e-commerce domain. Consequently, semantically enriched yet precise information by the ontology may elaborate the business transactions. In this paper, we analyze the semantic relationships embodied within the catalog domain, as the first step towards the ontological modeling of e-catalog. Exploring ontology should leverage not only the representation of semantic knowledge but also provide the inferencing capability for the model. We employ the EER(extended Entity Relationships) for the basic model. Each modeling construct can be directly translated by DL(Description Logics). Semantic constraints that can be hardly represented in EER are directly modeled in DL.

  • As the technologies advance, mobile peer-to-peer (MP2P) networks or systems become one of the major ways to share resources and information. On such a system, the information retrieval (IR), including the development of scalable infrastructures for indexing, becomes more complicated due to a huge increase on the amount of information and rapid information change. To keep the systems on MP2P networks more reliable and consistent, the index structures need to be updated frequently. For a semantic IR system, the index structure is even more complicated than a classic IR system and generally has higher update cost. The most well-known indexing technique used in semantic IR systems is Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI), of which the index structure is generated by singular value decomposition (SVD). Although LSI performs well, updating the index structure is not easy and time consuming. In an MP2P environment, which is fully distributed and dynamic, the update becomes more challenging. In this work, we consider how to update the sematic index generated by LSI and keep the index consistent in the whole MP2P network. The proposed Concept Space Update (CSU) protocol, based on distributed 2-Phase locking strategy, can effectively achieve the objectives in terms of two measurements: coverage speed and update cost. Using the proposed effective synchronization mechanism with the efficient updates on the SVD, re-computing the whole index on the P2P overlay can be avoided and the consistency can be achieved. Simulated experiments are also performed to validate our analysis on the proposed CSU protocol. The experimental results indicate that CSU is effective on updating the concept space with LSI/SVD index structure in MP2P semantic IR systems.
