Among self-esteem factors, "general self-worth" had the highest correlation with overall self-esteem; "physical appearance" was most strongly correlated with "general self-worth". Relationships between EQ and self-esteem showed that higher EQ was associated with higher self-esteem. Among EQ factors, "other-regulation and self-expression" was the strongest predictor of "behavioral conduct." The next strongest predictor of self-esteem among EQ factors was "self-regulation and utilization of emotion". Other self-esteem factors well predicted by EQ were "general self-worth", and "scholastic competence".

Greater communicative and social interaction between mother and child demonstrated a higher level of maternal self-efficacy. Third, mothers' parenting stress demonstrated a direct relationship to mother's self-efficacy. Higher levels of parenting stress demonstrated lower levels of maternal self-efficacy. Forth, Social support demonstrated a direct relationship to mother's self-efficacy. Greater levels of social support demonstrated lower level of maternal self-efficacy. Fifth, the greatest single relationship effecting mother's self-efficacy was mother's parenting stress. This research suggests the need for development of diverse social policies and programs to help mothers reduce maternal parenting stress and support the development of positive parenting skills with the goal of boosting mother's self-efficacy.

Both schools are located at Boryoung, Chungnam. In the experimental group, the researcher administered the play-using assertion training program once a week for ten weeks. The play-using assertion training program are made by the researcher based on Jeon(1985) and Byoun and Kim(1980). To measure self-expression, the scale of self-expression made by Byoun & Kim(1980) was used. To measure interpersonal relationship, the scale of relationship change made by Schlin and Guerney(1971) was used. The scale was translated by Lee and Moon(1980). To measure self-efficacy, the scale of self-efficacy made by Han(2002) was used. The scale is based on Kim and Cha(1996) and Kim(1997). Method: Total of 82 women with Osteoarthritis recruited from outpatient clinics or community health centers were randomly assigned either to a Tai Chi self-help group or a self-help group. Thirty subjects in the Tai Chi self-help group and 39 in the self-help group completed posttest measures(pain, stiffness, physical functioning, and fear of falling) at 6 months. Results: After the 6 month study period, the subjects in the Tai Chi self-help group reported significantly less difficulties in performing daily activities(mean difference=-0.16 vs. 6.19 for the self-help), and less fear of falling(mean difference=-3.20 vs. 0.27 for the self-help) than those in the self-help group. There were no significantly differences in pain and stiffness between the groups. Conclusion: The Tai Chi combined with self-help program was more effective than the self-help only program in reducing difficulties in performing daily activities and fear of falling in women with Osteoarthritis. Whether these changes prevent fall episodes requires further study.

  • Purpose: This study examined the fitness of a path model on the relationship among perceived health status, self-esteem, self-efficacy, and Yangsaeng for elderly women. Methods: The subjects consisted of 633 aged women. Data were collected through self.report questionnaires. The data were analyzed with the SPSS and AMOS programs. Results: Perceived health status, self-esteem, and self-efficacy showed a direct effect on elderly women's Yangsaeng while perceived health status and self-esteem showed an indirect effect on their Yangsaeng. Perceived health status and self-esteem showed a direct effect on elderly women's self-efficacy. The hypothetical path model of elderly women's Yangsaeng was proven correct. Conclusion: These results suggest that elderly women's Yangsaeng can be enhanced by increasing their perceived health status, self-esteem and self-efficacy. Based on the outcomes of this study, it is necessary to design an intervention program that emphasizes the enhancement of perceived health status, self-esteem and self-efficacy in order to improve elderly women's Yangsaeng.
